  1. Harrowing may help but it'd be good if you could rest the pasture for a couple of months at least. Would be good if you could take a crop of hay from the meadow or maybe run a few cattle on there before you let the horses back in. If that's not possible try and get the long rough areas topped, patch spray for weeds and give it a little fertiliser, something like a 20-10-10 mix. Maybe have the soil tested to see if it needs a different mix for optimum growth. I wouldn't recommend putting too much nitrogen on or it'll be too rich for the horses. If you have 2 fields (and no laminitic horses

Beautiful paintings, I do hope she will do well - certainly deserves to!
  3. that's great Kay - a well-behaved dog, a lovely evening and a camera What more could you want? She looks a real picture too

  5. Lovely shots Tracey I like the first shot very much.
  6. I think that's a dear little cottage I like the pic of the gate with the lavender growing around it Nice bumble too.
  7. This is more worrying, bearing in mind our life is in their hands... Actual writings on hospital charts(allegedly) 1. The patient refused autopsy. 2. The patient has no previous history of suicides. 3. Patient has left white blood cells at another hospital. 4. Patient's medical history has been remarkably insignificant with only a 40 pound weight gain in the past three days. 5. She has no rigors or shaking chills, but her husband states she was very hot in bed last night. 6. Patient has chest pain if she lies on her left side for over a year. 7. On th
  8. Some of those are actually quite well-considered and I suspect it's the kids taking the p*ss... As for Haven't they already started breeding well before they're 16 these days?
  9. As Kay said, it's probably down to the ratio of your camera's sensor. I believe the 500D is 3:2, so a 6x4, or 9x6 will fit perfectly with no cropping. However, 10x8 will need cropping to fit the paper size. If the case is that you ordered 6x4, and had not cropped the pics before sending for printing, then it is the fault of the lab and I'd complain to them.
  10. There are several horse dentists in this area. They do floating, tooth removal and stuff like that. I usually get the vet in to do mine because one little git of a pony needs sedating before you can rasp her teeth anyway. A lot of vets aren't too keen on doing it and will often get the dentist in to do tooth pulling etc. My vet reckons it's quite a satisfying job because the horses look so much happier after they've had their teeth done (if they were bad to start with) and pick up condition straight away
  11. Your mare looks very well for her age Lovely looking animal. The palomino quarter horse looks very much like one my friend owns. He's a big lad, I think he's around 16hh, but he's hard work to ride - just too laid back! I have an almost palomino pony - a Haflinger. She is only about 14.2 hh but incredibly powerful, and a bit lively sometimes!
  12. Rain, what rain???? I hope you get your hay done eventually, but at least if it's been raining you should at least have some grass to cut... it was so dry here in the spring that we just about got enough hay to cover the cost of the fertiliser
  13. I love that hairy cob!!! And the pony mare looks fit to burst - that will be a pretty foal Nice shots alround, I like the 4th pic of the dog.
  14. Hard to pick an absolute favourite... The thistle is very good... but I like the grass flowerhead with the blurry leaves... and the bug on the grass has lovely focus and I like the diagonal composition... Hmmmm... I'll get back to you!
  15. Very nice I like the thistle, the grass, and all the close-ups really! They are all nicely composed shots. The dog one is a touch dark though - I hope you got the splash too!
  16. Well done to your lad. He has an amazing trophy collection!
  17. Nice shots Ben - you've been working hard at that garden I love the cornflower pic.
  18. Lovely landscapes - I like how you've blurred the background in the 3rd shot I like the tyre and rope hanging from the tree too. It's a shot I would have walked straight past but it works really well. What does it look like in colour?
  19. made my mind up going for the canon , just looking for the best place to buy now , not a cheap bit of kit, but its only money , thanks for your help I gave mine a bit of a workout today and I'm impressed, and it takes something to impress me! I don't think you'll regret it Martin's camera shop are one of the cheapest at the moment, but I don't know if they have stock. It's a very popular lens, and most shops seem to be permanently out of stock. The good news is that they hold their price really well, so if you really can't get on with it it will always have a good resale value, un
  20. My bitch has at least 8 nicknames and responds to all of them. My dogs seem to instinctively know which one I'm calling, so I can't see that it would be a problem once the bitch has bonded with her new owner. Most dogs have more than one name don't they?
  21. that's lovely - they posed very nicely for you!
