  1. 'Ice Cream Box Set'

    post-3041-1204510444.jpg

i used these gallon ice cream buckets 17 yrs. ago , and they all just slotted into each other for easy carrying , and sprayed them green , and killed a lot of mink with them , it would save you a lot of money and shipping , just look around you before you purchase anything , and there is always some thing that you can modify to suit your requirements for free . if you turn them upright andattach to a tree or fence you will kill squirrels in them , they kill marten with a similar square bucket like a black flower pot in an upright position in n. america.
  2. I trap moles mainly in private gardens but with a few large farms as well. Iv always used tunnel traps with the odd scissor trap as well, but when looking on the trapmans web site iv seen a new scissor trap which they call a pro scissor trap. Its a bit longer and dosnt have the long arms for setting it, does anyone have experience with these traps? They also look pricey, £4.99, can i find them cheaper?
contact moley he,s the pro. moletrapper,
  3. need help.does anyone know where i can get some good quailty snares from.i,v also heard there is a d.v.d out by a bloke called woodga.does anyone know where i can buy it from.

You can order good fox snares from Game and Country enterprises, Selkirk. Hope this helps

i hope that they are better than their rabbit snares

Do fox snares tend to be more standard than rabbit snares Glenn, or are some of them poorly made as well?

as ive said before , in my opinion the majority of commercial fox aand rabbit snares are crap , and profit is the name of the game , made by people who have hardly set a snare in their lives , the usual small loops and and a straight trace wire , when they sell them with a slightly larger noose of a few inches they charge dearer, i can make a first class fox snare for 25 pence, so think what a large commercial practice can make them for as the hard brake cable wire is half the price of the aircraft cable , the stops on some commercial snares pull of , ive tried them this is how i know , this is bad if you are working in deer habitat , you should be using breakaways and good quality wires with permanent fitted stops on them , a friend told me last week that fox snares are selling at nearly 3 quid , you can make 12 for 3 quid, at least DICK TURPIN had the courtesy to wear a mask when he relieved people of their cash , i will not buy anything connected to snaring in this country , its easy to contact the states by e mail. their snare eyes are quality steel and their end stops are also quality , and there is such a variety to choose from. the american mentality is how cheap can we sell a product for and make money, the british mentality is to rip the mugs of for as much as and as long as we can. the ministry should be testing all traps and all snares and parts and fixtures ,
  4. WELL LADS ,

. AFTER THAT A GOOD DEGREASEING ..... THEN A METAL PRIMER ADDED .... FOLLOWED BY A FEW COATS OF VAUXHALL LEAF GREEN....... ,

AFTER THAT ?....... I DID EVERY TRAP I OWN .......

I BELIVE IT MAKES A BIG DIFFERENCE ,

    ALL THE BEST

    DUCKWING

i have dyed and waxed traps for over 20 years before anyone in this country thought about it , i was taught out in canada , the north americans have been doing it for a hell of a long time as they have to keep their traps in top nick to work in all weather conditions , as they earn their living with them , so, only a fool would try and use rusty traps, but over in the uk, they seemed to be heart lazy , and the most of the peoples traps that i have seen are usually red with rust , and when they pull the jaws open its like two old creaking castle doors opening , no wonder a lot of foul catches are made and also misses , hard white paraffin wax is what you need , if you look after the traps they will look after you ,waxing traps is certainly not a new idea.

    DUCKWING ;)

duckwing wheres the frog wellies with the eyes, chipper must be shy as he has closed his eyes in the picture
  7. woodman them pics is it me or are they spun too much as i been makeing a few and when there over spun they catch on there self and dont run freely?

if im wrong im sorry just asking :tongue2:

you are right the wires are spun to tight and won,t function properly, a 9 1/2, inch tealer is better for shorter grass , 10 1/2 for higher grass , 2.5 mil. galvanized fenceline wire is what you need for tealers , if you use thin wire , its forever bending , and you are forever straightning and wasting time ,don,t use high tensil wire for tealers as you cannot get it bent ,
  8. have found someone who sells wire but it is in all sizes and some is softter and some is hard. it comes o. something of a mill up

i cant waste my money on the wrong one so any help on the right one to get please

Did I suggest you contact Geordie, his stuff is top notch and decent price too. Pm him.

i think its .457 size you want , i should know as i bought 100 kg of the stuff a few years back, snareman will correct me if i,m wrong but i would check first before you go ordering any

the snarewire that we got was .455 , .457, is also good , .375 , is to thin in my opinion , some dealers make snares 6 strand with this stuff as they get more from the drum, but the wires are weeker , there fore you are better with the diam. wire that moley and i suggest, therefore you are better asking for brass snare wire in former diameter mentioned , you would be better purchasing some snares from geordie, already made to professional specifications with the proper diameter wire at very reasoable cost, because shop bought snares are usually made by people with no practical experience in snaring , and are poorly designed, some are 8 and10 strand and liketow rope , they are to short, half spun, kink and break easier, they usually also have a wind down of up to an inch below the eyelet , some have no eyelets on them which elongate, and have cheap thin green twines that just rots , profit is the main agenda with the majority of commercially produced snares, and in my opinion from a professional point of view after 60 yrs, experience , they are crap. i also personally can,t fathom out some peoples mentality, who the hell needs an 8 or 10 stand rabbit snare , one of my old mentors alex chisolm snared 2500 rabbits in one week and never used anything except 6 strand like all the rest of the pros. that i knew
  9. the problem with those that are doing the training is that they don,t have a vast experience on snaring themselves ,

the working class, can kiss my arse, ive got the foremans job at last.

that about sums it up snareman

brilliant , i,m laughing ike hell

Is this just fox snares, as if rabbit snares have to be tagged it would be a nightmare.

only fox snares ian, anyway you can buy tags all made to your specifications in the states , very cheap , not like the rip of merchants over here who would be wanting an arm and a leg as usual,

Aye it seems that way Glenn. Any of my friends who have been to the States say everything is a lot cheaper, shooting hunting fishing goods, food, cds computers etc, yet we get ripped off all the time.

thats why i do,nt buy anything made in uk , they are totally pure greedy bast#ards, i either make everything myself , or phone my mate in canada , or phone the states , its sent over in jig time , always good quality,
  10. magnum trap been looking at these what do people genrally side with the fenn mk 6's or the Magnum Trap 116?
fenn traps don,t kill mink in a hurry ,and thats fact, as ive trapped to many mink with them over the years , although i liked them for bank holes , but had to attach drowning wires to put them down and dead very quickly , the 116 and 120 are stronger and far better forbank trail s and holes through flotsam and on log crossings etc. solway have a new spring trap out now that they say have stronger springs , ive said this for many years that these spring traps were not strong enough to kill mink ,especially when you get them up to six pounds plus inweight , but each trap has its uses for different locations .
  11. As was driving down a fen road near Boston Lincs early this morning,i saw a dead hare on the grass verge,it did,nt seem bashed about so i stopped to pick it up,when i looked closer ,i saw she was wearing a snare, which had been snapped or bitten. over the years i have ferreted three rabbits with broken snares round there necks and two years ago i snared one that had a snare on it
mickey, i once snared a rabbit with a broken snare on its neck , and jagged my hand when killing a hare in a gate net one night as it had a broken wire on its neck also , that was many years ago ,
  12. Interesting setup, and I for one appreciate all the knowledge that snareman is sharing. This particular wire - is there a good place to get it, I presume it doesn't come double stranded?
im afraid it does not come double stranded, it is a single strand, same diam. as rabbit snare wire , it is extremely strong , its good for rats single stranded, and doubled ,the double strand snares are great for squirrels and rabbits , runs like lightning, woodga and i used it two srands of steel with two of brass and it made a very strong thin snare , i don,t know where you might get it now, as i got a few drums of 4kilos, and also ten kilos , it was given to me from an old guy who had it in his shed for years, he has since died . i gave peg and gun a drum also. but he may have sold it. duckwing is more than pleased with it , but you must be able to purchase it somewhere it cant be hard to get.
  13. TOO RIGHT THEYRE STRONG SNAREMAN ,

THESE SNARES HAVE BEEN ON ALL SEASON AND HAVE NOW HAD 27 SQIGS AND THE SCALELY TAIL IN 10 WIRES , AS YOU CAN SEE FROM THE PHOTOS THEY HAVE HAD SOME USE ,

THE QUICK CLIPS ARE AN EASY WAY OF REMOVEING THE SNARES ..........

THE SWIVELS I ADDED JUST TO TAKE A BIT OF PRESSURE FROM THE SNARE DURING THE CATCH .... I THINK ITS WORKED AS THE WIRES ARE STILL IN GOOD SHAPE ,............

I ALSO ADDED THE CLEAR PLASTIC TUBEING TO THE SNARES IN A MINI VERSION OF THE FOX WIRES SNAREMAN USES AS A TWO SECOND ATTACHMENT TO THE WIRE TEALERS ,.........

RATS ? ............... WELL ........... ME AND OLD SNAREMAN HAVE HAD THE CRAIC FOR MONTHES ABOUT SNAREING THEM ............ IVE ALWAYS USED A LARGER NOOSE THAN MOST SET HIGH THAN MOST SET THEM ........... SNAREMAN . SEEMS TO HAVE THE SAME CONCLUSIONS , HAVEING SET THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS OF SNARES FOR MINK , FOX , AND RABBITS ......... A LARGER NOOSE SET WELL UP ......

SNAREMAN .......... IVE ANOTHER FEW BLOCKS OF WOODLAND GIVEN TO ME OVER THE LAST WEEK TO DO FOR THE SQUIRRELS ......... CUT A FEW MORE POLES TODAY ,...... WILL LET YOU KNOW HOW I GET ON

    ALL THE BEST

    DUCKWING

d.wing, thats a good thick pole , for the squirrels to run, thats how you snared the rat , as they like squirrels , run higher on a thicker pole , and lower on a thin pole ,
  14. just wanted to make sure i wouldnt get a load of abuse and all that  its a time when you can actually see a fox close up and not worry about it having a go at you :boogie:

just thought it would show you the dog i had a few days ago

i hope that you released it safely , after feeding it of course.

  16. Nice job there Duckwing, what sort of lock are you using?
, theres no lock p. j. its just a double strand of stainless steel wire same length as a rabbit wire , its very strong and great for rats, rabbits , and squirrels, and runs very fast , i have caught occasional rats in my mink snare at around 4 inches on ground runs ,but i know from snaring a lot of rats this past few years that they run higher than people think they do , just like the rabbits they also run high , the rats also spring higher in longer grass , again a larger noose is needed to allow for any margin of error ,
  17. I know its not very sporting but now there are lambs about its gotto be done, don't see many photos of peoples catches or would this give us hunters/pest control men and woman a bad name ? or isit just not the done thing ?

See plenty of live caught rats, rabbits, birds, but never no fox :hmm::thumbs:

why do you want people to put these pictures up, its not the done thing
