Ok, I read and understand what you've said, thanks. The problem is that I cannot reach the most active holes in the warren BUT can easily trap the main runs if I can work out an effective way of 'tunneling' the traps. I've used snares before round this site with varying levels of success but the traps are 100% efficient so, rather than play round, I'd rather use them. (Sort of a confidence issue). So my plea for help still stands folks and I'd love pictures of your tunnels!

I've got a great idea you can use to show the effectiveness of a rodenator. Bury half a dozen rodenator operators in a warren and blow it up! Now count how many make it out alive, scorched, or just badly damaged.

Hi All. I've been trapping rabbit warrens for a while now using fenn mk6 down the tunnels with a good success rate. The problem i've got to solve is a warren that is largely unapproachable . There are well defined exit /entry tracks but I can't seem to build a tunnel which is portable, easy to assemble or disassemble on site. Has anyone got any pictures of their 'easybuild' tunnels I can crib from please. (Please put a 10p coin in the photo cause that will allow me to size it) I have access to 1 1/2" square welded mesh so any photos for tunnels using steel mesh would be greatfully receiv

do you own or have used one? If you do you're sure to be one of the "appropiate" users then? have you personally seen the damage they can do if not used correctly? can you honestly say that finding half dead rabbit with blood coming out of their eyes, ears, mouths, and bum is ok days after the rodenator crews have gone? A read of all the other comments left by hunters on the forum might be benificial. Possibly getting out more than you is what other contributors have already done! I opened a topic called burrow blasting after finding the results of a local farmers use and thought tha

mine got very noisy and I found the stock bolt was loose. Eventually had to loctite it as the HW35 recoil is well hard!

Harrier .22 three different types of sights normally not beyond 30 yards so set tasco 4x32 for this range. Accuracy, not exactly zeroed on paper, more like consistantly beating hell out of a baby food can at that range. Useage:- 1/tasco 4x32, rabbit out to 30 yards no problem.(bisley field) 2/cheapy laser, no sights, just line up the dot, rats, 10 yards max (wadcutters) 3/Red dot, woodies in grain barns, 10 yards (wadcutters)

Listening to a conversation in my local gunsmith (known for his dry sense of humour) and the content went something like this:- customer " took my rifle out onto the farm and couldn't hit a thing , there must be something wrong with it". gunsmithy "is anything loose or rattles, have you changed anything since it was last in the shop, has it been dropped?" customer " nothing rattled when i dropped it in the pickup yesterday" gunsmithy "so you did drop it then" customer "not by far" gunsmithy "that might be the reason the scope mount is sheared off at the front then" long pause

Well done with the petition setup. Signed happily!

Thanks stubby and trappa. Heat gun wasn't hot enough but I borrowed a micro blow torch and got the tip glowing. Result was an easy adjustment. For interest, my friend helped me again by showing me how to quench the reheated tip in oil and it 're-tempered' with no lose apparent loss of strength. Nice thing about these traps is that the springs are so strong that anything 'snapped' almost gets cut in half! On reflection, that's most likely the reason why they changed the clip wire to one so brittle.
-
They are definitely copies, used them before with no problem but in this batch they seem to have changed the wire to something way to brittle. Its not a loop though. Another picture follows which I hope shows the problem.

I'd love to read the insurance claim! -
No, not a joke, in the Telegraph today! Prince Charles calls for squirrel cull to save timber industry Landowners, backed by Prince Charles, are calling for a cull of grey squirrels and deer in order to protect Britain's woodlands and save the timber industry. In a letter he said it was "absolutely crucial to eliminate the greys which are an alien species to the UK and threaten the very existence of the reds". "The greys are doing immense and increasing damage to hardwoods all over the country and threaten to compromise all our efforts to restore native woodlands, let alone create comm

I'm having all sorts of difficulties with a batch of duffus traps. Basically I'm trying to 'tune' the triggers to be more sensitive. the current setting needs a really REALLY REALLY hard push to release and I've broken two trigger 'sears' already trying to bend them into the correct settings. The metal seems extremely brittle and it's the first time I've come across this problem! Anyone got tips on how to tune the traps without bending the sears?

two days on from my first post. Got a complaint from my permission that i had left a shot rabbit on his lawn. surprised i went round and found not one but two bodies. burrow blasted rabbits. one with bleeding eyes, the other with a burn mark on its back and blooded ears. no pellet or shot damage, they had just wandered into the guys field and died. i showed the damage to the owner. got a sorry but that is not the point. that makes 5 burrow blasted rabbits all in a disgusting state. i'd happily s**t on all users of these blasters!!!!

Right Result!!! Home Secretary announces today that the Gurkhas can stay in Britain. All Gurkha veterans who served in the British Army before 1997 will be allowed to settle in Britain, Jacqui Smith, the Home Secretary, said today. Wonder if we can get Gordon Brown deported ?

Didn't know it was widespread but aren't these things and how they are used controlled, DEFRA, Natural England for example?????

Careful, there is no such thing as free land. Someone will own it. Best you check it out on the land registry site before you start shooting.

Came across a really sickening sight this evening, I noticed a rabbit crawling along with most of it's fur burnt off. Really terrible state. Did the decent thing and dispached it only to spot a couple of rabbits BLEEDING FROM THEIR EYES and one from it's nose and ears. All three could hardly move and let me approach them without seeming to realise i was there. More dispaching followed. I finished my shoot and returned to my permissions house and told him about it. He knew what had happened alright, the neighbouring farmers men had been burrow blasting that afternoon. I'm no angel, can

Can anyone tell me if there is an insurance available that covers long netting, snares, ferreting AND shooting? I've read the BASC policy document and cannot see ALL these activities listed. The reason is I've been told that I need third party insurance to trap at my new permission. Any advice welcome. thanks.
-
Nope. Like you do, I've missed loads of shots and most likely will miss a shed load more. The point is that some of what I hit didn't go down and disapeared down holes with a pellet inside them. THATS the point

I've tried both .177, .20, and .22 over the years and always gone back to .22 because my main quarry is rabbit. The main reason why I prefer the .22 is that I often shoot in 'long grassed' areas and I found that the little .177 was more easily deflected by vegitation and wind. In terms of "Smackdown" power the .22 wins every time and rabbits (less the few that shook their heads and ran off) once hit, normally stay hit or are slowed down enough for a follow up shot. .20 was an interesting experiment in a springer but again I found it light and not enough choice of pellet to cope with t

Any ex forces use this forum? If any do, how many use shooting like me for a living i.e. pest control?

You know all this talking about the acceptance of a o/u or semi or whatever by the pheasant brigage just about sums up the sporting toff and most of tweed brigade. In their eyes "It aint what you can do but the cost of what your doing it with!" I went beating a while ago and apart from getting wet through had a great time. Right up to when some toff commented about a mate of mine who was using his wifes old gun (£55 cheapy) as his was in the shop. His comment went along the lines of "Shouldn't have be allowed to shoot with us using such an inferior gun". Not my place but I told s
