I had to stop using gas a few years ago because of ridiculous changes to rules. To re train and be assessed by City & Guilds after years of using gas is just someone making money out of the little guy. The argument of all this unncessary paperwork keeping out amateurs just doesn't wash with old timers like me. Still I prefer traps as them who employ me like seeing the fruits of my labours and what they get for their money. You're right about the mole holes though d6k. No hills, smiley clients.

Thanks to all for your replies. I'm old school. My Sussex Armoury Jackal was a nice little gun and I always liked side levers and multipumps. It was old school technology that always worked despite the jackal being heavy and noisy. I shoot a harrier now but the gear to charge it is a bit of a handful. My old Crosman 1322 multipump was ideal for barn work being light, self contained, quiet, reliable and accurate. Ok it wasn't up to modern accuracy but as the average shot was less than 30 feet who cared. No longer available. The Daisy 760 pump master fits the bill now even though it's go

Anyone got a recommendation for a modern version of the 1980's Air Arms Jackal?

We All knew it was coming and it moves forward another step with :- This copied from Teletext today. Airgun ban powers due Powers to ban airguns - which have led to incidents including a boy's death in Glasgow - are expected to be handed over from Westminster to Holyrood. The SNP has argued that Scotland has a distinct problem with airguns and the move is due to be confirmed. The move has been urged by the parents of two-year-old Andrew Morton, who was killed in 2005 in Easterhouse. Anyone who works for the BASC might like to take notice (not that it will make the sl

Got an interesting problem more directed to users of airguns though. I'm going to help clear feral pigeon from a small wood that backs onto an industrial estate (both owned by same firm). Problem is the industrial unit H&S wants a risk assessment about the dangers of air gun pellets crossing the boundary wire from the wood and falling into the compound. Not a problem but my 'boss' was a bit confused (too much coffee / caffiene   ) on how to approach it. As we are shooting into trees (just a guess 45 degrees elevation), I put the figures into the JBM internets 'ma

What I use on traps (doing a lot of rat cages lately) is my HW45 pistol , expensive but lasts for ever. As for a Rifle for traps? 12 ft lbs (ish) is too much power at close range, I prefer to use my pistol.

national gamekeepers association is who I'm with. <linky thingy> Non commercial insurance though.

A Priest used correctly wins every time. I've been on a couple of ferret and long net sessions where rabbits were karate chopped and even neck stretched. It was not a happy sight to see a rabbit 'wake up' after a snooze only to have to be hit again. My priest is a foot long length of 22mm copper pipe filled with lead. One hit, job jobbed. I practiced on dead rabbits encouraged by my 'expert' mate who was also taught to practice on dead rabbits when he began. As for feeling bad, you get used to it. If you don't then you're probably not for rabbiting. No problem, some people just can't ki

Hi Guys Where can I get a 40cm 12mm OD .177 barrel blank from?

What is and who is selling the cheapest .177 pcp today?

Hi there The one. I was CIEH risk assessment trained but found that when going shooting (especially in the open) that there is so much more to worry about (HSE wise). I researched it a bit on the Internet. As usual the UK, BASC, NGO, and HSE had little, sparce, if not bad advice. I hit pay dirt by looking over the pond though at yank sites. Shooting Risk assessment is a doodle if you use a tick list RA form. I got my first one a few years (8 to be precise) ago via a download from rangesinfo.org (usa based). It was a BBS /FTP site then but may be more user friendly now. Loads of useful for

Good idea Stubby but there aren't any local clubs to me and the local shotgunners don't like me as all my permissions were obtained through pushing the fact that I'm quieter than they are! Still don't get their point though as they don't shoot nights.

Apart from the ATEO and BASC, anyone know of someone in Lincolnshire that holds training courses for pest control airgunning?

I've been using Stainless steel wire for ages on rabbits. 3mm, stranded. I checked with Natural England and they said that it was OK to use. Yes it can be a sod when new to get it to set right but as always there is a knack to doing it. Never had one kink and lock. Better still, it solders ok so copper breakaways and stops are dead easy to attach.

Funnel mouse trap works and now for rats?
camies replied to camies's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
Wow, so much advice, thanks to everyone! I've got some 10mm square mesh left so I'll have a go at a few designs and what ever works I'll post (hopefully with ratty starring in the background) -
So, the funnel mouse trap finally worked and I've got orders for two more. That will cover the costs of making my two. Now comes the gritty problem of rats. Anyone know of a diy plan for a live catch trap?

Report the BAS***D! RSPCA or dog warden, not worth talking to the Bill. There was no damage to your wife or daughter so the plods won't want to know.

Took the girlfriend out with the Webly Raider tonight!

pictures needed! -
Feel free to nick the idea, the wife thought of it as I was pondering how to hinge the top. Wood was offcuts so it is a bit 'tall' but beggers can't be choosers. But, We have news!!! It actually worked and here's the proof! :clapper: I watched the mouse for 10 mins and as described it explored the whole cage to escape but couldn't find the funnel. Weird or what! It went absolutly ballistic when I picked up the cage but still couldn't escape!

Licencing isn't the answer Sean. Firearms and shotguns are licenced and there's tons more illegally out there than ever before. Education is what is needed in all schools & colleges about the correct use of guns. ALL GUNS i.e. BB, paintball, air, shotgun, firearms and even slingshots. Not just talking about the kids either, Parents need to be educated FIRST AND FOREMOST!!!!!!!!!!!!!
