  4. Cheers for that Daz! I think he will be a nice steady bird as the mother and the father are pretty sensible as far as Gos's are concerned! the mother stood for me perfect in her second year without too much aggresion! she also rears well too, hopefully alot of her good manners will have been passed down.... Tony
  5. finally pulled him on Saturday! he did'nt quite make to 2lb mark plus I also think he had some food in him, surpriseing as it may seem he was keen and fed off the fist last night like he was starving which is a surprise, I think this could well be that I was originally going to pull him last thursday and cut his food down a couple of days before hand while in the aviary, some cropped up so I put it off until a later day! from that day he has only had enough food to hold him steady which could be why he is so keen, either way I'm pleased with him and no matter what weight he flys at all I'm int
  6. Cheers for that runsatnite and Hybrid I hope he will be a good one, his size is good but as you know! Big is not always better, you ask my missus, she has to make do with a small one like it or not , I'll either pull him tomorrow or thursday and Hood him and start on him straight away, I think he's going to be switched onto Gamebirds due to the amount of Pheasant Poults he has had in the aviary, Dead of Course . Cheers Tony

  8. Just a few pic's taken through the spy hole of the finnish male I kept back this year, I'll be pulling him out in a weeks time <10Wks> and starting on him! the breeding season didn't go quite as well as I wanted this year, out of 17 Gos eggs I managed a measley 5, the rest was infertile! with the Peregrines it was 6, but the good old faithfull Harris's gave me 100% with 2 x clutches of 4 produceing 8 youngsters, 4 are late birds and still with their Parents around the 30 days mark, there is also a pic of a Gos rearing the first clutch Harris's, and another of a Finn Female that went for

Quinny Sounds like sound advice from the last two posts, where abouts are you in Norfolk? I'm in the West Norfolk area which has some large wide open game land where you can certainly fly a Longwing . Cheers Tony

Waf You had Invites two years ago but due to work commitment you did'nt come over, you had Invites last year up to the end of the game season this year and did'nt come over, there was a few lads over that also wanted to see this bird of yours fly, but Instead the both of you decided to go down lincolnshire for the day on Mike Kelvins land , I still have the pm's on smoochers I sent to you In december and January asking you when you're coming and whats happend to the telemetry set you offered me, the land was layed out for you as was a few other falconers who did turn up for a week from do

WAF I'm sure thats the bird that your mate Joe had that was'nt making the grade, I remeber talking to him on the phone and he was disapointed with it which was the reason he took up the grey bird! I'll be Honest I see plenty of pic's and have some myself of German and Finnish birds doing the buisness in style weather it be Hares or whatever, Can't say I've heard any great reports on the siberians! the only reports I have either read or heard apart from the fact they have smaller feet than a good finnish bird is they're a bit lazy and take a bit of getting going, its no different than th

Hello Viz Just seen your post! I'm sure you'll be well looked after if you take him up on his offer, I know there are plenty of Deer around there that need sorting and trimmed up with that gun of yours, I had a couple of falconers come and stay over in their caravan for the week from Stoke! they was shocked by the amount of game and Deer around the local estates, either way mate I'm sure you'll get plenty of sport down in bonny norfolk . Cheers Tony
  13. On the news and the papers over the last few days you've probably seen the poor little lad shot by a total Muppet with a Air Rifle, the parents must be going through hell! apart from the Fact the prick who pulled the trigger took the poor little lads life away he has also driven another nail in the coffin for the Airgun enthusiasts, I just read this link and by the sounds of it they looking to take action already, its a trajedy for the little lads life and another trajedy for our sports. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/4322109.stm Tony

Hello Hybred Its strange how the different climates in the uk effect the behaviour of breeding birds, You could try slowing him down a bit by diet, this will always help to take them out of condition, the worry is if you do this to him now while he is giving it could well shut him down for the rest of the season! If you was going to do it that way! I probably would'nt cut him down too much but reduce the quality of his diet to say chicks all the time and when you want to bring him in again, stick him on a richer diet of say quail and pigeon to help bring him back into condition, I have now

He's giving earley Hybrid! My females are no where near standing yet or even nest building, you want to keep him going and not let him dry up should someone do a deal with you for some Semen later on, My male is also 2 or 3 weeks away but hopefully he'll be on the glove shortly, I know Kenny has a female that might well stand for him this year. Cheers Tony

Hello Peter Its been done by the americans but the chicks only survived for about 7-10 days before dyeing, The story that went round was because the birds was so far outcrossed there was a lethal gene missing that finally killed them off, I don't know about you though! but surley this would have killed them off well before 7-10 days! I can't help feeling that if they managed to survive this long and the fact they managed to get them fertile in the first place! then it was something far simpler that killed them than the lethal gene they talked about, I have a picture here of a Harrishawk x
  17. Cheers Viz . I was a bit of a bird scarerer at school! but made up for it when my stunning good looks started come through with Maturety , I hope the birds produce some decent stock mate! with the amount of stock I have brought in and patiently waited over the years for them to mature I want some pay back, the weather down hear certainly isn't helping though, although its supposed to start to get warmer from Monday. Cheers Tony

Hello Hybred Thats a cracking head study! How did kenny get on while up your way? I heard he had a good season with his Gos.. Tony
  19. Just a couple of pic's of My imprint Finnish male semen donor now coming into condition, plus one of the Finnish female fostering young Harris's, the male is well early to be honest! Its looking like I'll have to slow him down a bit by changing and slowing his diet, the last thing I want is the male giving semen before the female is will to stand for me, some males can dry up quickly and some will give through out the season so trying to get it right could well make or break a season, also there is one of the Female Imprint white Gyr x Saker coming into condition and taking a food pass...
  20. I have to add my two pennies worth here ! the Part of Norfolk I live in is heaving with Hares, Places like Bircham Newton where some of the land belongs to the Conservitive MP Henry Bellend , Also land near Sandringham and land near to the coast carry out seasonal Hare shoots where as many as over 500 Hares are shot in one weekend, To be honest I think its taking things to the extreme! but each year the Numbers are always back up to near plagure proportion again. I was Invited on one Hare shoot a few years back which I did'nt enjoy, not for the fact they was shooting so many Hares but h
  21. I'm looking to buy in around a 1000 x 32grm size 4 or 5 steel shot to give to a lad for shooting Pigeons for food for my birds, Can anyone tell me of a site or phone number of a decent priced place? Cheers Tony

    Sparrowhawk

Hello Gareth She's a very special bird to fly mate, the only problem she has is she has a tendency to self hunt, but this is expected from a wild bird that has Hunted in the wild, as far as flying her it was like watching a Master craftsman at work, If you look at the picture of the maggie you'll see its soaking wet, she chased it through the woods and nailed it at the other end, by the time I arrived she had dragged it down to a small ditch and was holding it under the water, it was as if she had done this a few times in the wild, the Dove was flown down over a great distance which starte

Just a couple of pic's of the little spar I have now finished flying which will be released in the next month or so, there is no doubt about it she has been the best spar I have flown in the way she stick to her quarry right to the bitter end, she was a bird brought to me after hitting a wire aviary and part of her Rehabilitation was getting her fit and flying again. Cheers Tony
