  1. Hello Mick It would be good to bring a Gos up to your's, You're not too far up Lincolnshire for me from where I am! I'll be taking up a new Gos hopefully this year if Bird Flu does'nt piss it up for me, My last Finn male was wiped out by the Patterdales in its weathering , I suppose I can't blame the dogs too much as it was pointed out to me from some lads on this list, that Basically this is what these dogs do and they was only doing what comes second nature to them, either was as you can imagine I was slightly pissed off at the time, this is not a nice pic but this was him before in the
  2. Hi 'falconeru.k01' No idea mate! the tiercel was a bird I brought in from Mark Robb in 93 and the female came in from One of Bob Haddons mates which a decent crow hawk and a decent size but sustained some claw damage and consiquently ended up in my breeding aviary, I know what you're saying about the size of birds for flying! "Big males and little females" suits me every time when it comes to flying birds, I breed some nice size Finnish females but I would'nt dream of taking up a female for flying, but as you probably know in this country big birds sell, Big Willy syndrome always seem to
  3. Hello Mick Been down and fed round this morning and they have settled in nicely, when people contact me for Pere's this year I'll fire them over to you, I'm hanging onto nearly all of them this year apart from a few Tiercels, I had alot of Interest in them last year due to the size they was coming out, I sold the Females for £850 and the tiercels for £400, the females averaged around 2lb 8 and over and the tiercels was all around the 1.12 - 13 mark at 11 weeks, they're a old pair and probably won't have many years left in them which is the reason we'll be hanging onto them this year, Thi
  4. Hello Falconeru.k01 My pal Andy picked up your Harris's today and brought them down hear and put them in a 15 x 10 aviary, they are in lovely condition and look a good gennuine pair, all credit to you and I'll keep you informed on their progress . Take Care Tony

    Breeding Gos's

Just taken this off the BFC site, looks like not many people will be exporting birds to the Arabs this year after they have now had a outbreak. Tony http://www.britishfalconersclub.co.uk/nm/p...sh/news_50.html

    Breeding Gos's

Nice One Pug I hope so too mate but to be honest its looking like Bird Flu will be hitting these shores in the near future which will put pay to any movement of birds in this country, DEFRA are already saying that if their is a outbreak they will stop all Imprts and Exports aswell as any movement of birds in this country from one aviary to another premises , I could well end up with a whole lot of young birds like other breeders smashing themselves up in the aviaries until DEFRA decide to lift their restrictions! Hopefully it won't come to that mate but its looking highly likely, the oth

    Breeding Gos's

Hello Mate I bred from a natural pair for a few years until I lost the female last year, I now have the same provem male with another 6 year old female, the male was brought in from Germany in the late 90's! he's wild taken as a earley brancher, because of this he was pretty steady as far as Gos's go! Creche rearing is prbably one of the ways I would go with making up pairs but having said that all the people I have known with natural pairs in the past have used P/R birds, Bob Haddon used to have green fingers as far as breeding gos's went! he would P/R a male and a Unrelated female the ma

    New to Falconry!

Hello Ronan Forget taking on a Gos as a first bird, its temperament/Atitude and ease of dyeing through stress or not being conditioned properly could well put you off Falconry for life , there's plenty of lads on this site who have walked the walk with other birds who can turn their hand to training/manning anything blindfolded! but I'm sure they will all tell you the same, stay away from a accipter until you've had some hands on experience for a season or two. I copied and pasted this from a earlier post, things may well vary a bit depending on what country you're in but in the UK th
  12. This is a good site which has most things available for the would be Falconer or or anyone wanting bits and peices, I have known him for a good few years and he's a gennuine guy, he has his own stock but has had a fair few birds off me in the past Includeing a decent pair of Spars he breeds from, these was probably the best breeding pair I've ever had. ask for Craig.... 13. Cheers Darren . Malcolm has as good as given up for a while, although I reckon he'll be tempted back if I manage to get some youngsters off his female, I'm confident he won't be able to resist a youngster when he sees them blasting around the aviary chaseing each other . Tony
  14. Nice one stollen! good result .

    Walk Out

Nice one Millet and Ian sounds like she is doing the buisness for you now, she'll be creaming them next year after the moult... Cheers Tony
  16. Hello Stollen Basically Finn birds are Larger than their German neighbours and generally do have a slightly easier going temperament, having said that you get what you put in so if you put the time into a German bird it should'nt turn out much different than the Finnish temperament wise. there is a slight problem in this country with big birds "Big Will Syndrome" , alot of lads like to walk about with these bloody great Finnish female's on their fist for a pose which is slower on the turn than a smaller female and certainly doesn't get into its stride as quick as the smaller females either
  17. You're not being Nosey mate in anyway. I have a Pair of German x Finnish, the male was brought in some years ago from Germany by Steve Tolly and was wild taken, he is Cable tied and chipped, the female is a Bob Haddon bird brought in last year which is a nice size bird, I weighed her about a month ago when I pulled her out for copeing and she was 3LB 5oz's, I brough her in after the loss of the original smaller female last year, but I'm pretty sure the Proven German male will bring her in and do the buisness. I also have a German Imprint female here which belongs to Malcolm allison, I'
  18. Nice one mate! what are you having a male or a female, P/R or Imprint? I have 7 deposits this year for Finnish Imprints and one for a P/R bird, so far two oders for finn x german birds which will be P/R for lads round this way! I fancy a Finn x German female myself this year to be Honest! I want the smallest female in the aviary .
  19. Hello millet how you're doing Thats sound advice for anyone mate, You have to give your bird the benefit of the doubt plus after the moult this year you can get stuck into a whole season with her, First year birds normally come out different birds after the moult, they seem to have done a whole lot of growing up in their first season! she will have grown up considerably when you take her back up this year, you'll be steaming them next year mate . Cheers Tony
  20. Anyone thinking of a new Hood for the new season or whatever for a decent price fitted with Gortex or leather braces this is the man! any colours available and the quality takes some beating compared to some other furniture makers who charge near on twice as much, this lad alos does anglo Indian too... Cheers Tony http://www.falconryhoods.co.uk/
  21. Hello All With the new breeding season not far away has anyone ordered any new birds for 2006? seems like a few people wanting Gos's this year after most of the orders I have taken have been for them and Peregrines, the trend seems to be to take up a Imprinted Gos for flying! I must admit its not my seen but I'm all for it from a breeders point of view , it saves me a whole lot of worry with young birds going back with Parents and bird falling out of nests, smashing them selves up in the aviary and the food bill is less too, having said that its not normally a problem if you have some goo
  22. Not most peoples taste but a nice looking bird, you would have thought if he was going to X it with a broadwing he would have chosen a Redtail with a bit more go about it... Cheers Tony http://www.goshawk.cz/goss_buzz.html
  23. Hello Millet You could take her weight down perhaps a couple of Oz's at the most, I should'nt say that really without seeing the bird but if the bird was 2lb 7 top weight and she is down now to 2lb 4 oz's she still has less than 10% off her body weight! <10% would be 3.9oz's> or just even it out to 4oz's as .1 is nothing, I would see how she responds to quarry a Oz less at first and also try taking her out a Hour or so later than the normal 24hr's period, I can't speak for Harris's but when I enter a fresh new Gos I always take them out and fly them at first about Hour before dark,
  24. Looks like a lovelly healthy bird Millet! the cere and its legs have that lovelly yellow colour from a good healthy diet, I'm sure you'll be going out doing some damage with it fairly soon mate! the glove looks fine to me, it looks like a glove thats seen some action in its time. cheers Tony
  25. No idea about anyone useing Datshunds, I spoke to a bloke the other evening after my Gos was killed by my terriers and he told me about a jack russle he had used all winter with a male Harris, then for some reason in the summer the Jack nailed his Harris on the lawn and killed it , speaking from a bad experience and advice I don't think I would never mix any Terriers or such with Hawks again! a GWP bitch without doubt will be my next dog for Falconry . Tony
