  1. Nice shot! It seems you might have to cull a few more of those beauts in the future at the rate they are expanding! I have heard that about the Reds in Kerry too. The version I heard is that hybrids were released in Wicklow from the parks of Lord Powerscourt which lead to more hybrids being bred etc etc. Perhaps it has something to do with the habitat? Less disturbance and agriculture in Kerry means the herds have more room to expand without mixing?
  2. Does your T8 scratch the barrel? My mate has a T8 on the same model sako and it has left rings on the barrel's blueing. I know it is just a working gun, but I take good care of my guns and would appreciate any tips on stopping this. Cheers Gabriel
  3. Hi guys, I was wondering if you could give me tips on moderators for my .270 sako... I am going to choose between the T8 (huge but slides down the barrel) and the Jet-Z (highest sound reduction and doesn't scratch barrel, but longer than the T8). Can anyone give any experiences with either of these? Also how much did they cost you? My gunshop wants £250 including installation, which seems a bit steep...
  4. Absolutely, I kept my first rifle in the gunshop as a student. In fact it will probably make it easier to get the fac since the cops won't have to assess the premises etc.
  5. Hi, Lothian and Borders police are pretty reasonable. It took me about 4 weeks to get both FAC and shotgun certificates. PM me if you have any questions I can help with! Cheers, Gabriel
  6. CZ 550 caliber .243 What is your best price?
  7. Hi guys, Just wondering how many rifles/shotguns you guys have sitting in the safe... I just ordered a 4/5 rifle safe and wonder how long it will take before I order something bigger! I just have a .270 Sako, with 2 more spaces on my certificate for a .243 and a .375 as well as an unused shotgun certificate. I have to go shopping!
  8. Hi, Nice day by all counts! Is it true that most small game hunting is done with wild game in Germany?
  9. I don't have much experience with this caliber, but it is known for deep penetration with those long bullets. I wouldn't be surprised if it exits every time, regardless of bullet choice. I got a .243 on my ticket to make sure I could justify a smaller caliber later on when finances permit. I am thinking of a .223 or .22-250.
  10. Some questions for those who used to run red/fallow deer. From a total newbie. Do you ever have to finish the animal yourself or did the dogs do it all? Is it possible to catch large deer with only 2 dogs or do you ever use a 3-4?
  11. I have skull mounts for the kudu and sika buck, the nyala is getting a shoulder mount. Hopefully they won't do too bad a job!
  12. Nope, it was a couple inches under 54. I was just pleased to take the kudu and nyala off an unfenced farm with minimal help from a PH. Now I just need to source some reasonably priced hunting here in Scotland!
  13. Looks fantastic! Which estate was this on? If anyone can give me a shout for some reasonably priced hind stalking, I would really appreciate it.
  14. Hi fellas, Here are some pics from hunts in the last few years. Hope you like them. Sika deer shot in county Kerry, Ireland (I am on the left). We used a .270 Blaser and a Sako. Nyala shot in South Africa. I borrowed the guide's .375H&H for this. Kudu, also from South Africa (same farm as the nyala). Shot the year before with a .300 Win mag. http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b53/Boghossian/P1010051.jpg' alt='P1010051.jpg'> Your truly looking like a tool but still pleased with a dog fox that ran straight up to the landie's front grill!
  15. Yes, and they have the guns and licences. Just aren't being allowed to keep them at home, even if they have a safe. Frank, have you done any red or red/hybrid stalking? I saw some cracking stags last time I was in Kerry, of course they are protected but hopefully they will spread!
  16. There wouldn't be as many rifles in Eire as there are now either. I believe recreational stalking has taken off in a big way over the last 10 years. The price of coilte lettings can be pretty high, though not comparable with UK stalking (especially near London). Frank do you have any updates on the pistol situation? My mates all ran out and bought handguns but are not being allowed to keep them at home or use them....
  17. It was near Woodford, crawling with fallow and lots of black ones too. My mate doesn't have the lease anymore so I will be in Wicklow in 3 weeks for some sika stalking. Do you ever stalk on Coilte lettings or is it all private permission? I just get across to stalk 1-2 times a year.
  18. That is a good trophy fallow. Do you get a lot of mature bucks that size your way? I have shot some fallow in Galway but even the old bucks had pretty poor horns, not that we cared.
  19. Probably antis, though I know a few hunt supporters that might as well be anti-anyothercountrysport. Apparently on land that has been hit hard by long dogs, the foxes don't like to leave cover making life difficult for the hounds.... I wonder how much lamping that would actually take?
  20. Nice one! What gun and load did you use? I just bought a harris bipod, I'm sure it helped make the neck shot possible.
  21. That was dead interesting! Can you believe how fast the cow died when the tribesman speared it? I noticed that they cut to a new scene after he speared the other cow....wonder how long it took...
  22. Thanks for the tip mate, I will not try to save a few extra quid by going second hand. Any advice on finding a shooting range?
