Nice useful looking pack...

It's right to remember good old times, and good old boys... I have travelled, all the way up one side of Scotland, and come back down the other... As you know, nothing much beats the place for a hunting man... So much open space and freedom to use a lurcher, as it should be used....especially a Deerhound type...? God's Own Country folk call it,...and it is not without good reason.

I cannot recall, just how young, these pups were,.. they only had their eyes open a short while... What I do remember, is that they were unlike any other young canines, I've ever bred...? Within days, they were eating minced beef and rapidly gaining strength....I had eight dog pups and two bitches. Never experienced such wild and natural behaviour from pups....? I guess that smidgeon of wild dog in their ancient genes, caused them to take life seriously... Kind of, the survival of the fittest,.eat up, or go under...

Nice jukels lads,...and you are right, nothing wrong with white ...

The feeding of lurchers has become really complicated...? I don't keep, performance dogs or racers and coursers,..just hedgerow mouchers. So,..I've always subscribed to the notion, that a little bit of everything, does ya good.? I feed what I have, when I have it,..from the poor old horse to Chicken backs, raw green tripes and sheep paunches, sardines and pilchards, duck eggs and offal... And, always backed up, with a handful of quality, complete food... What more, can a humble rabbiter's jukel ask for,..or in fact,..really need...

Hi,..the bitch on the left was around 26" at the shoulder and her son, on the left , made around 28"... The bitch came from a first cross Greyhound/Deerhound, which had been mated to a Collie /Greyhound Sire However, to produce her son, I used her uncle, a genuine first cross Greyhound /Deerhound, over her. So, both had some small amount of sheepdog blood in them,...which I personally found to be, no bad thing at all...?

? I cross Border collie into everything Stormyboy,...I just like sheepdogs. I inevitably return to the fold,..it is what it is...

Bred several litters in the 1980s/1990s,..we worked them most nights,... Straight cross twixt Ardkinglas Deerhound and Irish Coursing Greyhounds.. The next cross, back to the Greyhound was always far more agile and useful product. Great dogs for the Roe...? We then put our 3/4 bred hybrids over big whippets...then we were cooking...? Terrific old-style longdogs,.great to see lads still enjoying them...

? I doubt anyone would ever employ me, let alone trust me to work, in an office or factory...? Unfortunately,..we do not have the fabulous terrain,' darn sarf' that some of you lucky guys have access to... Hopefully, this season, we will find a kind soul, who will allow us, to come and have a walkout, amidst, the sedges and rushes...? on

That is my favourite type of Mouching,..nothing else beats it for me...?

Heartwarming and most erudite post, Stiffmeister... I live on an island (of sorts) so rather than damage the dog's feet and wrists, by allowing them to race about on the sun-baked plough and set-aside. I encourage them to swim, to their heart's content. ? I've always felt that water-work is beneficial, to any working dog's physicality. They can really go for it, especially when pursuing a floatable Kong, or canvas dummy. The effort required, to stay in the water; swimming, for any appreciable length of time, seems to satisfy their Summertime, pent -up energy.

I remember that morning well ?

What a man does with his own pups, and what price he places on them is his business...? Personally, I prefer to gift pups to the right homes,.I don't know if that is right or wrong...? I just like to pick and choose, the new owners. Obviously,.shit can happen,..folk are not always what they seem,..but mostly,..it works out alright...

That is the most important aspect of breeding a litter... I always feel that it is our responsibility as breeders, to make sure that piece of the equation is taken care of. Lovely markings on the pups, really unusual. I would have loved a youngster myself to train up,... a bit too ancient now though,...? Exciting times ahead, for all you lucky guys...you are going to have, some really great hunting. All the best, Phil.?
