  4. That looks to be a really cracking , useful wee tyke...I bet it is exciting to have a mouch out with..
  5. When I was burrow trapping the rabbits, using Imbras, Fenns and in later years, Bodygrippers, I insured that the traps worked fast by keeping them ,in tip-top condition. Some types of soil can corrode the steel far worse than in other places...and when after the Mink in pocket sets, or alongside bridges etc, the traps are frequently getting a regular soaking.. I used to treat the old iron Imbras and Juby's,.. with boiled oak bark, and dipped the fresh steel Fenns and Conibears with Logwood dye. Traps ain't cheap and it pays to look after your tools http://www.
  6. Those Fawn-coloured dogs you are thinking of, belonged to S.Barton..... This racy Southern black-un,...was a different type of beast....? http://www.chalkwarren.co.uk/
  7. Watched this 1st cross GSD /Greyhound compete in one of the first ever Obedience Tests, devised for lurchers... I'll never forget his owner, hurtling the dummy into the most impregnable patch of bramble, known to man...? Quite why he fecking did this was a mystery? At the time, the dog looked to be streets ahead of the other contestants, both physically and most definitely cerebrally... He could have won the event, easy fecking peasy....
  8. Saw this dog hunting in the New Forest, back in the 1980s....real canny, capable critter...? http://www.chalkwarren.co.uk/
  9. Stick with it brother, you are almost there.. http://www.chalkwarren.co.uk/
  10. Many thanks for your support lads,...it is much appreciated..
  11. Back in the 60s, life was different and some landowners took fecking liberties,..but it wasn't always poachers, that got the good hidings...?
  12. I've caught lots of rabbits with those old style, barrel-chested whippets.. Speedwise, they are not in the same league as the Hard-Bloods, but I have found that the KC runners, leftover, from the organised hare-coursing days, often have stronger feet.? Obviously, the out and out race dogs, are fabulous specimens,.almost mini-greyhounds, great physiques , but for hedgerow rabbiting, the original pedigree, working type whippets, are plenty good enough. Whatever the style of whippet,...for me, as a part-timer, these diminutive speedsters still bring a lot to the table...
  13. I have always rated Herding dogs,.I just like them... The best of the bunch, are extremely adaptable and can take on many diverse tasks,....they just shift from one discipline to another. For them, it is easy,...they are different to other canines...? Worked with a tremendously keen Border collie dog,.he was undoubtedly, the most accurate marking dog, I have ever come across.. Really intense,..massive concentration span,...almost trance-like, totally immovable, but when the time came, he struck his prey,... like a cobra.. As the day progressed, I twigged onto the fact
  14. ? I try to retain plenty of sheepdog savvy, however, I now prefer to put some whippet into the mix , just to keep the size down, for the old hedgerow job.?
  15. We can never, really predict, how the future may pan out...time will tell....?
  16. Don't be so fecking romantic..? http://www.chalkwarren.co.uk/?
  17. Lovely to see,.all the best for the future?
