  1. I've seen an excellent Plummer/Russell work, self-entered to strong quarry when she slipped the leash at seven or so months.; nearest I've seen. Irrespective of what Plummer sycophants say the great man was obsessed with rat hunting and that's what they were bred for. Nobody buys a Plummer for serious earthwork.
  2. I got the small one, excellent little tool.
  3. Surprised the bitch didn't kill em.
  4. Anyone who thinks they'll place a litter of Border pups to working homes will be in for a shock, I can tell you. Because of the 'slow to enter' 'KC shit' mentality, Borders have lost favour with working terrierfolk, which in turn has harmed the breed further still and if people don't take an interest now then the breed's working credentials will be lost forever, end of. There are good working dogs out there, KC and non KC, it's just a case of rooting them out. The stuff I breed goes to working homes wherever possible, sometimes with a caveat and others without. As for the slow to enter bit, it
  5. Since the ban, we have to travel light...in case of an emergency exit. ,First list is spot on. We also carry a dog coat, a polartec one, handy after a long dig if the dog is exhausted and can help prevent shock.
  6. People were digging badger with terriers for centuries before the ban(s) on badger digging so maybe not every terriers belly was taken apart Indeed.
  7. Well said. In over twenty years of working dogs I've known of many illegal things but never, ever known a black and white have its jaw or legs broken or teeth pulled etc..and certainly never known of one being sold for that purpose, not least for a grand; if that were true, we could be quite well off where we live, place is alive with the b*****ds.

    rat baiting

    Choc spread or peanut butter.
  9. Nice pics Austin...the dog in the pic looks slightly bent-legged to me. I thought that was bred out them or am I wrong? For what it's worth I keep my dogs to do what I want; if they don't comply they go. I daresay that applies to all terrier owners of all breeds, including Plummers. Aint my cuppa, but each to their own.
  10. predictable post nuv Obviously appropriate then.... About the Lucas....
  11. I read in DB Plummer's book that Borders were 'notoriously slow to enter': I have a dog of seven years that will rag a hair brush and bark at the vacuum cleaner. If any Plummer owner out there thinks their dog can maul an electrical flex better than my Border, come forward now. If it cannot, then nothing will be said. If it can, I will publish the result on here and give the Plummer Terrier's owner a roll of 3M electrical tape as a prize. The best dog will then have to demonstrate using a 'Henry' vacuum that's plugged into the mains. As a safety measure, all electrical apparatus will have
  12. Shamo Do you have any of Plummer's recreated 'Lucas' terriers I could see work? I'll certainly bring my 'pack' of 'notoriously slow to enter' Borders if you have.
  13. Hunt and Working Terriers, Capt. Jocelyn Lucas; World of the Working Terrier and Badger Digging with Terriers, David Harcombe.
  14. Excellent! Cheers for that Biggy. I've put it on the Chrissy list.
  15. yeh thought the staffordshire/cheshire branch had been wound up, due to break away fraction. is there one for staffordshire cheshire derbyshire where do they meet. I think there's around seventeen different Plummer clubs on the go: PTCGB, PTC, TCP, APTG, BPIN, AGPTA to name a few...all of them have the Plummer terrier's interest at heart. Some more than others. I think at leat one actually banned the man himself from being a member.
  16. Okay mate, I'll get that, it sounds excellent. Got any order details?
  17. Just out of curiosity, what was the eight month old Plummer doing to so impress the farmer? Tuffty, I'm thinking about adding beagle blood but concerned about pendulous ears; would that bother you?
  18. Does that mean an Afghan Hound has a picture of Allah on his bullet-hole?
  19. Please BBB, don't insult me...why read Plummer when you can read J. Darcy's collection of his friends' anecdotes?
  20. Tuffty, those dogs are genuine workers mate...the photo's prove it. Plummers are the new Borders. PS. how's the pup? I bet you wish you had a 'red devil' don't you?
  21. I thought for many years Plummers were not that great: WOW. This man has proved me wrong. moocher/forums/index.php?showforum=4
  22. That's the drawback with hard dogs. I survive because the amount of places I have to hunt is limited and, therefore, whilst the dog is recovering, so is our hunting hotspot.
  23. Rob, this is terrier work mate...as you well know, it rarely, if ever goes to plan...unless you hunt rats etc. Was the bitch out the second time or was she too sore? I'd like to know how she reacted if she was there. Nuv
