  6. I've never found the short muzzle a problem; many dogs turn their heads slightly to one side when head to head and therefore they are at no more a disadvantage than any other breed. I see the 'slow to enter' clause is being cited again. In all the years I've had Borders, I've found they enter or they dont, much like other breeds. It seems many people contrast Borders but don't compare.
  7. Hi all, just got back; weather was bad for first three days but finally settled. I only ever fish freshwater so never thought about wind and tide etc. Had two fish in total and came away a better angler, I feel. Those bones go like stink. Also caught a Jack which gave one hell of a fight. Can't wait until next year....
  8. Are they called Nuttall dogs because they 'nut all' they find?
  9. I'm off to the Bahamas tomorrow to hopefully catch a few bones; I'll post pics if I catch any. Was wondering if anyone had any advice. Nuv
  10. My God! Have you thought of writing a book about Rat Hunting? You could challenge a professional boxer to lift his own bodyweight in rats. You could even invent a new breed of terrier. And several breed clubs. Then get kicked out of them. Not a bad day's sport though.
  11. It gets stranger, just looked on lee upstones posts and his mobil phone number is on, selling some lurcher pup. Lee not answering his phone now. Lee Upstone just phoned me and its his brother in law using his name. Very strange Maybe his brother-in-law thinks using Lee's name will sell the pup.
  12. She looks a lot like my dog. The spades don't have heads, they're actually props to make him look like a notoriously slow to enter working Border. Easier than finding roadkill stuff.
  13. Why's that then As it's nearly 10 years since i bought a pup do you not think i have had more than my return on my " Investment " of £ 250 at the time ? Do you not think that the last Border i bought has returned me more than i could really expect in the sport it has given me ? Do you think that everyone who works a terrier of any sort, come to think of it owns any animal, must make money out of them ? Sure i have heard or even know of people who want a little cash cow to breed from, good luck to them, they can do as they please but they would do the same with any animal.
  14. Is that what 'they' do with the £300.00 Parks/Gould/Nuttall/Plummer bred dogs advertised in the CW? Why talk such bollywollocks?
  15. How strong do they need to be to hunt rats?
  16. I believe this was an attempt at tongue-in-cheek which backfired.
  17. A few weeks and you'll see the red coming through if she's gonna change.
  18. Has it been worked? I knew Cloughie well, years ago and his stuff was good then; if he hasn't become show only then it should have improved.
  19. Got your drift. The hardest work Lud's dogs have done is carrying a rosette. Never thought much of Bryn personally. Or the huntsman. I dug their foxes twenty-odd years ago for them. Politics, politics...
  20. Is Bryn C still EF&UH terrierman? That would've been my job once upon a time... :secret: I know of you too, I think Don. If I'm right.
  21. Is that the one that hasn't got a single picture of a dog working in it?
  22. You won't learn much from books but I recommend anything by David Harcombe; I also think Hunt & Working Terriers is a good - albeit dated - read. Dan Russell's book is also pretty good but dated. Try Coch-Y-Bonndu books they are quite helpful. Avoid anything by Sean Frain, he wouldn't know one end of a terrier from the other.
