  1. True enough Had 3,all x racer's, ignorant in the field, none would cross a ditch or fence or go through a gate, all pulled up at ditch while running rabbits, the last one done it for me, my terrier bolted a rabbit out of a break and I slipped, he ran up and whipped up the terrier, nearly killed her, he ran no more after that. Maybe as briddod says, bring them on from pups, but i'd never keep one in my kennel again.
  2. Was getting worm doses off local vet for my dogs and also asked for dose for ferrets, he said ferrets don't hold worms, said intestines are too small, right or wrong I don't know, just what I was told.
  3. Just had a look hunt mark, nice selection alright, but like Kinderbeano said, I,ll wait til I,m there and check out a few suppliers, Birr, here I come.
  4. Thanks lads, I,m in the south (Wicklow). Kinderbeano, will they have a decent variety at birr, don't want to travel only to find they only have the 4z one's?
  5. Just went to order 20 nets from 'Bridport Nets' and they are charging 25 pound postage to Ireland, its nearly the same price as I'm paying for the nets. Very dear I thought. I've been using the 4z nylon for a few years now and am fed up with them getting tangled all the time on the ground I work, so I want to get the 6z or 10 z nets, so any Irish lads know of anywhere in Ireland I can get them? F all on e-bay either, mostly 4z. Thanks

  7. Am looking a digging russell and was directed to this man, he's up Fermanagh way and was wondering if anybody has or works these dogs and what they're like, thanks for any info.
  8. Some cold and windy days out ferreting according to some of those pic's, looks the business though, and some people call this sport, other people would call us lunatic's . Looking forward to season too. Tom
  9. Nail on the head there tassa. I know for a fact lads down here ar banging an avarage of 10 a night . Thats alot of foxes. Aye, don't take a genius to work out that at that rate they'll all be gone but the rifle gang are too thick to realise. They just keep shooting, dumb as they are, & then wonder where the foxes have all gone. Dont get the shooting thing, you could have shot every fox i seen last night, all well within range, and standing still. Fair enough if it's pest control, but lads are pulling up at gate's on permission they dont have, bang bang, and DRIVE to next gate
  10. Has anyone noticed the amount of foxes about, I have been seeing more and more while out bushing during the day, but have nothing to run them, anyway while out lamping last night we counted 16 foxes, alot of them young, but still this is mad numbers for this area, anyone else seen a boom in numbers?
  11. like the whippet northwestmitch, my kind of dog.
  12. How's it going w/wicklow, back in the 90's a lorry overturned in Rathdrum, it was transporting mink, 100's if not 1000's escaped into the Avonmore river which flows through Rathdrum into Avoca, they have trived there since, my father has a full time job trapping them to protect his chicks and ducks, he showed me one last week, only had one eye, weird looking f**ker, so yeah, there about.
  13. They look the business lad, nice pic's.
  14. Hey shotgunner, seen a 2yr old whippet for sale on the 'working whippet forum' recently, absolute gem for ferreting by all accounts, but not that good on the lamp, worth a look maybe. Tom
  15. Time mate, put a post up a few days ago about my own russell who is 2yrs and how she was tried on a fox last season and showed no interest but did one last week of her own accord while out bushing a few rabbits. So give the dog a chance, you say she has chased a few, sounds like the instinct is there, couple of months down the road who knows.
  16. From Wicklow myself and have heard of a couple of dogs going walkabout locally, some blame the tinkers, some people have other idea's, f**k knows. The amount of sleepless nights i've had just lying there listening, afraid of someone been at the kennels, have even gone out to dogs at 3,4 in the morning just to check, f**king thieves will be the death of me.
  17. Everyday aswell, mine are brought in to run around the kitchen floor every evening cos its raining alot lately, also gets them used to the dog aswell, 3mths old now and used to everything, like noises and people walking about over them, no problems.
  18. I seen a fox the other day running across a field with the carcess of another fox in its mouth, never seen or heard of this before, are they cannabils to their on kind?
  19. Lovely looking pup, hope he does the job mate. Tom
  20. A good result for young lad, weel done.
  21. Seen him in the for sale section too, looks a wee cracker, best of luck with him.
  22. Cheers for replys, late starter is rigth, but starting none the less. Very supprised to say the least, she was in the bad books for the last 2 weeks cos she killed a ferret on me, but now all is forgiven.
  23. I went out today to do a bit of bushing with my 2yr old Russell for my whippet, put 2 or 3 rabbits out ,good runs but all missed by whippet, was'nt that bothered, just glad to be out as in-laws are visiting. Anyway, in one field, the wippet ran a young fox to ground, which to my supprise was followed down by the russell, she's only a bushing dog and even though i tried to introduce her to this type of work late last season, she showed no interest. It was a rabbit hole, and wasn't deep, i waited and listened for 30 minutes and as i had no tools for the job with me, i had to ring my da who arrive
