  1. If someone could tell me where to buy the part I could fix it for you. Have replace the depth gauge \ switch on a few but have always canibalised one to fix another.
  2. Would save a lot of phone calls if you gave a price.
  3. Good advice. If in doubt change them. They can drop off quick, be fine one minute and an hour later as dead as a dodo. You normally find one battery goes first so the collar is only half the depth your expecting.
  4. Have been around a long time and have a good reputation. Just haven't moved into the internet age.
  5. I enjoyed it and the follow up. One of the few books that is worth the money.
  6. yes mate it is, never mind i got it all done now. Deben say it needed recalibrating with a new rod,do you know how this is done? Sorry can't help with the recalibration. On the old Mk1 finders it was a case of fiddling with two pot resistors probably similar on the Mk3 but don't know.
  7. Does moving the search \ locate slider make any difference to the depth?
  8. That is why I always have 2 finders with me in case one goes on the blink. Obviously doesn't have if the collars the problem.
  9. What you need is a ferrite rod that should cost less than a couple of quid. Try searching for "ferrite rod" using google. Think this may be what you want and it only costs 45p. http://www.rapidonline.com/Electrical-Power/Transformers/Ferrite/Ferrite-rod/31005/kw/88-3098?source=googleps&utm_source=googleps
  10. Cheaper, but will come off the ferret very easy if you don't change the strap to a leather one. Battery life is the same as the Mk3M and operation is exactly the same. Only different you have to take the batteries out between outings rather than use the magnet to turn it on and off. Don't go for the Mk2 collars unless you are happy changing the batteries every week. They have a battery life of only 30 hours compared with 300 hours for the Mk3 and Mk3M.
  11. Think someone said that any magnet will do.
  12. Normal if you are near any metal or within 50 yards of a power line.
  13. Get the Steve Henderson net making DVD.
  14. Nothing wrong with clear pigeon, as others have said its the person behind the gun. Needs to take account of cartridge speed. I know from experience that the speed of the cartridge mades a difference, had fired 50 shots one day with a good kill ratio when I switched cartridges, next ten shots I hit nothing, started given the pigeons another 12 to 18 inches of lead and hey presto the birds were hit full pattern. Best killing cartridge for 20 bore had to be 28g wincester AA+ 7.5 shot until they discontinued them.
  15. Also know as 357 (silver oxide) or LR44 (alkaline). Deben say do not use zinc air batteries. This type of battery discharges even when not being used once the protective tab is removed. This type of battery is normally used in hearing aid.
  16. Look at what the guy selling them has sold previously. You will see that he sold the identical 2 broken finders not long ago so I suspect he got a mate to bid the price up for him and pushed the price too high. My father has fixed a number of finders and the only fault he can't fix is a broken wheel as we have never been able to find where to get them. Personally to me a missing wheel means it can't be fixed without canibalising another finder. Chances are the wheel has been removed to fix another finder and there is another fault with that finder. Before you bid ask the seller if anyo
  17. Good stuff. Nicer to work with than hemp.
  18. If money is no object then yes but realistically no. Who is going to throw 100 hemp nets away and replace them with bright coloured nylon ones.
  19. All the square grey boxes are Mk1. People get confused because the sticker on the dial often says Mk2 or Mk3 which is the variant of the wheel on the Mk1 finders. Mk2 and Mk3 finders are like Star Trek Phasers. Calibration on Mk1 finders is done via two pot resistors. They are usually either blue or black in colour and are adjusted using a small screwdriver.
  20. Normally get mine done in March after the ferreting season has finished, but as "the one" says as soon as his testes drop is a good time if you are not working him.
  21. I always go for 8 x 8 x 8 or larger for each compartment. The height could be dropped to 6" but wouldn't like to see the width of length any smaller. Personally I would make a double box w:20 d:10 h:8 and put 2 jill ferrets in each side.
  22. WHATS THIS NEW ONE LIKE, is it more of the same , gypsy's injuring hares with cattys and cooking . or is it totaly difrent Watched it yesterday. More of the same. Similar to the Mouching Days And Hunting Ways ones, mostly covering rabbits and cattys.
  23. Different coloured cable ties around the neck.
  24. All down to personal preference but generally either 6, 7 or 7.5 shot. I like 7.5 in the spread and 6 in the choke.
  25. Most likely a bad contact on the speaker. Try resoldering the joints. As a last resort replace the speaker they are only about 50p.
