    Sorry mate, been busy. We've not had our heating on for six years, problem I found was cleaning the glass in the morning, because you get a lot of heat radiated through your glass which is lost if your glass is clarty, easier to light in the morning while the chiminey is still warm. No, not tried the hotties, well not those hotties anyway. lol

    That's it, turned down to low, the smoke fills the burner if you dont turn it up. We stopped leaving ours on all night turned down for the same reason your getting sooted glass.

    If the glass is getting sooted up, it's because your running it to slow, I use one of those green plastic washing up pads to do the glass, and wipe down with a bit of tissue after, we don't leave ours in all night, we relight the next day when we have the time to sit in front of it.
