  1. Hi Dan,...I think the type of Jukel you are thinking of, would be a Kannichorker,..(Kannies being Pheasants or domestic fowl)... I've owned a few mouching curs that enjoyed a steal... Some dogs become so in tune with their owners, that they are easily encouraged to chor a certain item. Thanks for the correct spelling, I never was sure of it. At least now I can see if it generates some more information on the net.
  2. Liking the stories. Keep them coming and don't hold the pictures back. Even if these traits are a pain in the butt, it sure makes for a memorable dog...wouldn't you agree?
  3. So, like so may people, I first got interested in lurchers while reading Plummer's books. A couple of things that caught my imagination were chapter 9 in Merle when Plummer talked about a dog that was a natural sneak thief. He referred to that type of dog as being a Kannecour (Sp.?) saying, that's what the Gypsies called them. What do you folks know about this type of dog? Any stories would be appreciated. I had a whippet that would steal all manner of things when he was young and hide them in peculiar places. I didn't realize fully how to train a dog of this type to take advantage o
  4. there was a travelling family that used to camp up near us every summer, kept Irish terrier/whippets similiar to this in type. Hardy little dogs. Your right on the money there. The cross makes for a tough dog and a hard worker for sure.
  5. The first of the whippet x jagdterrier cross is this one, named Diesel: Obviously, the size will have to come up from here. Diesel is about 18" right now and will likely make 19 when he's done growing. I want to eventually end up around 21"-24".
  6. The whippet in my avatar is my favorite of the bunch I had. Here is a picture of his littermate brother: And my old Mikey dog: https://whippet.breedarchive.com/animal/view/166894
  7. The Vitesse and Quixand and later Quixandz whippets are the fastest over here right now. That doesn't always mean they are the best hunters. If you don't have a little Lyth in there the dogs they'll break a lot easier. There is a cirlcle of people that are making exceptionally fast whippets over here right and it's really fun to have had a few of those dogs. Here is the dog that did the 10.8 seconds. The dogs name is Ringdove Black Adder. https://whippet.breedarchive.com/animal/view/548 There is getting to be a small but growing group of guys that are slowly getting some of that
  8. Yeh but don't forget,,,our fuel costs around £5 per gallon,,,,,what are you guys paying,,,I bet it's half what we pay If ive got my facts right and calculated it right they are paying a maximum of 45 English pence per litre. Vs our £1 plus a litre. Yearly low has been 36 English pence per litre. I would have a V8 if fuel prices were that low. Lol. I know quite a few guys that mix their own fuel. There are piles of videos on YT that describe how to do it. We're talking diesel, not gas. You can use just quite a long list of oils for this. Piss on the fuel stations you don't n
  9. It's crazy looking through the autos you guys have. On the one side your driving around in what amounts to something we'd get for our wife to drive to the grocery store. On the other side, the m.p.g.'s your getting are double what's available here. Getting over 20 m.p.g. on a hunting truck here is unheard of. We can't get Hilux's here because gas tax funds the hwy. upkeep so they won't let us have anything that gets good fuel mileage. Same goes for small Ford diesels, VW's, Audi's, etc., etc. Nearly everyone here has a Ford F150, Chevy 1500 or Dodge 1500, all 4x4, and all extended cab. Th
  10. To blue- If I don't make them, I don't get one. There are about enough lurchers in the USA to supply three packs of ten dogs each...that's the whole country...all 50 states. That's how few there are here. Kinda blows my mind to think that there are so many over there and that few here. On top of that, of those thirty dogs I've made half of them and half of those are dead already. I'm essentially I'm on my own.
  11. I'm getting the impression that most 3/4 crosses ARE nearly as smart as the 1/2 crosses. I hope I'm reading that right. It would be nice if that were the case. If I'm not feeling the brains with this pair then I'm just going to stick to first crosses. I am looking for an outstanding border collie female to breed to Duce and will be making another first cross litter in the near future. I'm going to put together one hell of a batch of lurchers when this thing is done. I'm very thankful for this site and all of the men that have helped me out with the little details that make getting into a new (
  12. Good reading. Truth is, Duce (sire tothe3/4's) has some bull in him and it's plenty enough for me. I take whatever comes and can be running a coyote one minute and rabbits the next. I'm just trying to learn, ahead of time, what to expect from my 3/4 pups. I haven't seen a coyote back the sire up yet. The dame is hard but not that hard and both will get the neck in good style. I'm not worried about hardness and fight in the least bit, that's why I get to sit back and wonder about brains. Vicki is the mother and is the stag x border collie cross. She's a freakish genius and I just talk to her li
  13. Been on Vargy's for years now. It's nearly always just stags. Also, I'm not interested in the fight style that any bull x would bring. Plus, I like them creepy smart and that's not in the bulldog's wheel house.
  14. As some of you know we don't have very any lurchers in the USA. What few there are are spread out far and wide and most are unknown. Right now I may be the only person in the entire country that has lurchers for sale. If I don't make it then it's not really there. In light of the scarcity of lurchers to choose from I can't sit back and rely on others assessments of the parents and other ancestors. I've worked and evaluated all of the ancestors myself and picked out the cream of the crop. A few of you have read the little bit I've posted about the stag x border collie lurchers I've made over th
  15. So, I'm fairly new to lurchers and longdogs but I have some to this question. For someone who has the idea of wanting a lurcher that is big enough to handle most game and styles of hunting, would an old pro choose a first cross collie lurcher or a 3/4 bred collie lurcher? Thanks in advance.
  16. That's the one I had to a tee. I sold him because he couldn't be kept outside during our winters and the snow was to deep thenfor him to work all of the way through the year. I think about that dog every day but he's out studding in Las Vegas now. He is one of the greatest dogs I've had. He's the one pictured in my avatar.
  17. An education always costs something, I'm willing to do what I can to get it and make sure both sides benefit. I just look at it like college. They got money and I got knowledge.
  18. In case folks are wondering what I get out of this, it's simple...knowledge.
  19. So we're all clear, I'll raise the pups to whatever age requested, provide all of the care and required vaccinations, the health checks required for the flight and a ride to either Austin Strauble Airprot in Green Bay, Wisconsin or the larger airport in Milwaukee, Wi. If anyone would like to hang out here for a few days just check out the area on the computer and ask about activites you'd be interested in doing or places you'd like to see while your here. I'll set you up at my house and take care of getting you around. Remember, the coyotes are in season all year and bear trainging st
  20. Here's one of the mother but it's from last year. This actually looks like the middle of the 2014-2015 winter, so at least a year.
  21. I doubt there will be more than one or two in the litter that will make 28 inches tall. I think most will be around 26 inches and there is one female brindle that is quite small. I'm going out on a limb and saying she won't get more than 23 inches. Of course, it's possible there could be a 30+ inch dog to come out of this but I would be surprised.
  22. I'll have to get the mother's picture off of my phone.
  23. Here's my first litter of 3/4 Lurchers. There is a little bit of APBT in there on the sire's side but it's hardly noticeable except for that he's a little wider in the rear of the jaw and he trees well. I know it's not really something that will be new looking to you all but I'm pretty excited about them. The Stag x Border Collie female that went into this cross just might be one of the very smartest dogs I've been around. The sire would be a great Stag if that's all he was but he's a good dog on track, smashes the bush and trees like a champ. He's been a natural to the neck from
