  1. Pauluas- Well, that goes for anywhere. Of course, the game wardens are outfitted on the US tax dollars so they run around with night vision and helocopters. Kind of hard to dodge that. You can turn a light out and back into a bush but the IR cameras will tell the heat signature of a fart in the mud. Coneykenny- I understand that, I'm mostly a small game hunter myself. I only go bear hunting in the summer because there isn't much else to do in the daytime. That being said, we have hundreds of thousands of acres of public hunting land and you just don't have to worry about permission
  2. Not sure where this will go but I'd like to start off by saying that I'm from the USA and have never even gotten to visit Europe. I've only been on this forum for a few weeks and I don't know much about any of the countries in Europe. What I have noticed is that there sure seems to be a lot more rules over there. It seems to me like it's the land where nothing is allowed. I have only a small understanding of your gun laws and even less of your game laws. I just know there are a lot of them! What keeps you folks over there? Don't bother responding if you answer is "family". I underst
  3. Don't know yet, never had one before. I guess I'm just going to see what he is good at first. Most likley, I will train him up well on obiedience and hunt him on bear and coyotes for a while and sell him to one of the locals so I can have him around for breeding (if he makes a good enough dog).
  4. Tri-tronics shock collar. Put the collar on 2 to start out with and wait until you've got the pup out and you just know it's going to dissreguard your command. State the command and give a short pause, hit the button for 1 second and keep touching that button one second at a time when it's going away from you or showing that it's not coming to you and switch it to the tone function and hold it down for 2 seconds when it's going in the right direction. Heck I'm not even sure you folks can use shock collars over there. I'm new to the site and from the states. After a few short sessio
  5. I do happen to have a collie/pit pup here but I don't know as much about the parents as I would like to. I would have liked to see them hunt but they were not hunted. It's a little bit of a shot in the dark but I can always back away from that if the pup doesn't work out. He's a sharp little guy but is awfull about wanting to put his teeth into everything. He's learning at a pretty fast clip though. He is only about 10 weeks old but is retrieving, comes when called and knows not to come over and bite me in the morning. He'll ask to go outside to do his buisiness and knows the difference
  6. I'm getting that from reading all of the posts here also. I've been in dogs (in general) for long enough to try and start at the point where the most success has been had. There are a lot of folks who will bang their heads for quite some time hunting breeds that just aren't right for the job so I'm wide open for all suggestions. No use trying to pull a cart with square wheels. Would you prefer to cross the stag with something other than the boarder collie?
  7. Border Collie, a good working stock dog too.
  8. Ardvark, we can hunt almost anything here as long as the season for that game is in. Mostly fox, coyotes and bobcats but I'm good with running rabbits and whatever else wants to give a race.
  9. Here's something else that's got me curious...I've had excellent results on game with the jagdterriers. I also know a lot of folks that have not, but for me they have worked out pretty well. Jagds have showed me great nose, locating and will stay with the game. I've had some that will strike off of the rig (box on the truck) well and some that are fantastic tree dogs. I've not hunted with another breed of dog, to this point, that had more hunt in them. Of course, the jagds have their physical limitations due to their size and that is why I'm looking to give them what they are lacking
  10. I'm not nessisarily looking to hunt cats with the lurchers, I'm open to just about anything really. Thanks for the tip, I'll check in with danny 300.
  11. I'm new to this so take it easy on me. I've been running jagds for some time now and I train American Leopard Hounds on bobcat. I've been reading about every thing I can find on lurchers for around ten years now and have just gotten a Stag female from a friend of mine (last fall). My intent was to cross her on to my jagd stud for my first lurcher. I don't know a single person around my area that hunts with lurchers and about three people who even know what they are. I'm all alone in this and could use some info. Any experiences with this cross? I have a really sharp B.C. on deck if I'm p
