wife replied to zini's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
well,i keep my traps simple, less springs the better 4 me,lol, all i do is on the door is have my door at 45 angle,on the inside of the door i have another bit of wire which comes down flat once the door has fell, this way the other bit of mesh which is attached lies flat on the floor,,up 2 you how wide you have the mesh, i only have it say 4 inches,, enough for them to stand on, so the squireel, rats, is standing on it, example being they trying to nose open the door, but cant cos they standing on the other mesh with there body weight which stops them from nosing it open,i use the cli -

does the door lock shut mate?squirrels will go in the trap baited or not i have found, lol, but, maize is what i use, only got to speak to one of your local famers, and can freeze it as well, better off getting that door locked shut some how, and that mesh, they soon bite there way through it, welded mesh is what i find better, good luck on trapping them, speak to john b, he show you one of his traps that they managed to bite there way through,,looks same mesh as what you using, i have used the same mesh, and they also got through my traps in time -

lol, i know what you mean mate, same close to me, see crows in the pub car parks in the mornings along with the maggies, out these farms i shooting its all arable land and sheep, cattle,i give anything a try myself if its put in front of me,i feed crows to my ferrets, have done for the last 21 years, good supply of ferret food, , a few times i have had good numbers on crows up to 100 plus in a day, i keep a good load myself, and i tend to drop the rest in convenient places for any passing fox

Might be a daft question but are the 'branchers' the ones you can eat? I remember watching something on TV a while back where someone went and shot some young crows then cooked them up and said they were delicious... funny you say that,i got a dvd here called eating crow, its from america, i not had a chance to watch it as of yet, but going to watch it this week, well, a few peoplei know have said they eaten crow, young birds are said to be the best of course,i eat squirrel , pigeon, rabbits, and most hings, never thought about eating crow, anyone else on here know what crow i

just got some new ground, just managed to knock off 7 on my first visit,, all young branchers on the nests, farmer said he not got the time or money to waste on shells shooting them, and said shoot as many as possible,, seems a little early so far for branchers yet but was atill quite happy to have 7, they only showed them selves on the edge of the nests when the older birds were flying over the wood, but was walking around the wood and there are nests in most of the trees, can hear the young ones calling out all the time, just wondering if anyone else have had much luck on bran

well, now i got plenty of time on my hands with no work, and just walking dogs every day, i decided might as well get a few traps out for squirrels, but decided to make some new ones, problem being was joining the wire together,, one phone call to john b, and 2 days later he sent me my clips with pliers, nevewr used these clips before, always used wire and twisted,, no going back for me now, so simple to use, and although i got johns book here i missed the one part in the book which john kindly helped meout with over the phone, when the door shuts at 45 degree angle, pu

how was the trigger plate attached to the door after? the trap has now been modifed and is sprung and completely galvanised, the trigger plate is conected to the door via a thick wire (2mm) which is supported halfway, so when something hits the plate the wire is pulled from under the door and it slams shut. bingo, i ha\ve had a rat in it so it works but i havent seen the squirrel it was designed for in ages any photos of the modified trap mate

building a ladder trap, what i am after is a broken down diagram of the timbers and lengths, wondering if any one on here has plans with the exact sizes of all the lengths of timber that were used, like the up rigths, cross bearers, and door, so i can then get the timber in, and cut to correct sizes, its alot to ask but if you dont ask you dont get, i am hoping to get a trap say 10 foot by 6 foot and 6 foot high, otherwise its back to the drawing board and have a go myself, lol
