6 months is a bit young to work him mate. Just try get your training in for the first year to get him stock broken and retrieving trained. Also his bones will still be growing so be careful he doesnt run hard otherwise you'll screw him up in later life. Patience is a virtue and he'll be picking them off by then! Good luck mate Jordan
-
Aye mainly rabbits but could be handy to retrieve the odd shot fox/deer/hare... or two lol. I'll look into it cheers mate Jordan

I found a staffy x whippet in the paper where I live and was wondering if this was the bullx's that some of you use? Also are they any good or are they too heavy set to run rabbits etc.? Its a bitch at 7 months for 150 pound. Doesnt say it works or has but would obviously need more training etc before getting out. Any thoughts? Cheers Jordan

I just use an old fishing gear bag for my nets and I leg the rabbits and stick them on my shovel Jordan

Thats the problem I saw arising I can believe this Kits so early. Was the season induced in an artificial environement?? I have never seen or had jill come in season so early? No they live in my shed with a window giving them natural light. I found this strange as well. Cheers Jordan
-
Well just recently one of my jills (who came into season early) has given birth to 8 wee kiits and I was wondering that when they are older (summer ish) if they could go after younger rabbits (not tiny wee kits though the fluffier ones!) I know its out of the ferreting season but perhaps it could work (or not!) What are your opinions on it? Just an idea lol Cheers Jordan

Thats one f*****g weird looking mouse
-
It is more pest control than sport so I dont mind if they die (thats the idea here) I had my hobs round but they didnt find anything n the jills are out of action at the moment. Id rather not risk my ferrets against rats though. Jordan

I was out ferreting round a mates land the other day and kept coming across rats rather than rabbits. We decided that at some point we would take his terrier cross out with a crappy homemade smoker to get the wee fuckers. But I was wondering what precautions should be taken when doing this? Like should the dog be washed afterwards to prevent us or the other dogs catching anything? Also how to dress any cuts when they get them? (like cleaning them etc.) Cheers Jordan

Personally I dont like the idea but thats me. Iv kept rats for years (as pets) and even they can put up a good fight against anything. My dumbass mate once tryed to feed one to his snake and it gave the snake a good beating and ran off never to be seen again. He got a right whack from us all for that. I must say I do like the look of the wee ratting style ferrets the guy I bought my jills off of had a really wee jill like that. Atb Jordan

Nifty looking wee spade that think i'll buy one.....wait I just did lol Cheers Jordan

Cheers guys I just used a bottle of water with him and sprayed it in his face when he showed an 'unhealthy' interest. Also the fact hes shit scared of bottles of water helped a bit. He now will wait looking over the warren and when he hears something rumble or surface in the grass he tenses up and gets ready to go, but if its a ferret he stops and walks away and sits next to the box. its brill. Also there is a few dogs that try and attack the ferret or box (when im working the farm roads) and he charges them as if to say "My ferrets!" and will not let them anywhere near without my word. I
-
oh dear now that must be a pain. By the way i got him used to them now he just ignores them and walks off. But he does guard them from other dogs if we're somewhere where there is dog walkers. Cheers Jordan

Jeez I do with fish on a barbless hok but imagine if the ferret kills or mutilates the rabbit?? it would be kinder to dispatch nae let go....cant be serious surely

great picture to put up on a site that young kids look at ............................. It's a remote control, isn't it? of course it is i mean what else could it be? edited to say i caught one ugly rabbit yesterday. It had near none of its ears left (loads of holes and chunks missing) had its eye chewed out by my hob (twice hes done that while they've been alive underground) and had no fur on its back legs Atb Jordan

If you're not shifting them with the jills try a hob thats what I do. Let the jills get them moving and the hobs to shift the stubborn bunnies. I thought greyhound ferts were the racing bred ones that are quite wee but real quick. Atb Jordan

lol lol ,,If they wanted it that bad and they have been after it for years it would not be around now It would be the same if up to me lol. The bloke I was speaking to said hes had to start taking his lambs in as the foxes are that much bother I suggested he tryed to get them the old fashioned way of shooting them but he said he aint got a gun some farmer lol but if they go the other side of the hill theres the nutcase farmer who shoots everthing and anything that sets foot in his fields...but they're sly wee buggers n keep clear of him.
