  1. Well, we are back from not a very successful days ratting, the little buggers must have known we were coming, or it could have had something to do with all the volunteers from the local riding school helping doing a big cleanup at the weekend, which I was told about this morning when we arrived . We looked everywhere :search: and didn't even find a mouse. Have to find ourselves a better location for next time.
  2. Thanks for all advice guys , off to bed now for a bright and early start. Hoping to have some pics for you later.
  3. Got Jack Russell, found stable, got hay bales, got feed bins, got RATS, got no experience but am very excited ! I am taking my dog ratting tomorrow and it's the first time for both of us so if anyone has any helpful advice I'd really appreciate it . Annika
  4. I hope it all goes well and he makes a full recovery for you
  5. Probably was a bit premature posting about him here, cheers for the tin hat maltenby . I am hoping he will prove himself in time so I will keep you updated. To be honest I'd rather have a pup from him and a good bitch than a not so good one, so I'll just have to be patient, not very good at that though Very good point, fortunately he's not too bad for humping things, just when meeting other dogs, in particular my mate's male rottweiler. Please don't let him be gay, that would not be condusive to getting offspring . I'm hoping he's going to turn out to be "decent stuff". I
  6. Short legged jrt, football cross, there's an interesting one but quite tricky. 'Rag it', it was, I'll get him to save the other one for the ladies .
  7. Have hopefully got some ratting sorted for us in the not too distant future, fingers crossed he does well. Very good point about too many pups ending up at the pounds but still hoping there is some hope for my little guy as I'd love a pup he's sired. Will keep you updated on what hopefully will be the meanest, leanest, rat killing Jack Russell south of Oxford
  8. Ha, ha, this could go on forever. Why not? Constructive critisism is sooooo much better Sorry, couldn't resist What is it with men and making a mess in socks? This is starting to go seriously down hill now, better stop myself before I get
  9. One small problem, no two actually. One - that will not produce any puppies, and two - my old man would be upset if I did it to the dog instead of him
  10. Ok, joking aside. I don't think he is sexually frustrated to the point of suffering so I don't think castration would do him a favour even though some people say it does prolong the life of dogs. As for nieve and anthropormophic, had to look up nieve and could only find, nieve - "clenched fist" (northern and Scot. dialect), but I do know he's not a human and neither does he think like one so he's probably quite happy not covering any bitches. However, from a more selfish point I would personally quite like to have a puppy from him because I do feel there are a few good qualities he could
  11. He has tried my leg on occasion, think it must be a man thing, apparently he'd rather stick it in something than just rub against . I don't know, personally I quite like rubbing. Oops, maybe I should just stop writing now . Shovel, digging.......
  12. Hmmmm, last I checked I think beastiality was illegal and his breath does smell a bit so even though I love him to bits that is just wrong . I think I'd rather try to find him a bitch .
  13. You got a smaller one for the boy as well?
  14. The little fella really wants to get his leg over so I figured this is as good a place as any to start. I appreciate that most people on this forum are probably looking for proven studs and workers but there might be someone who like the look of him enough to make him a veeerrry happy dog .
  15. I'm offering Texas, my 2 1/2 year old, short legged, smooth coated Jack Russell up for stud. I have unfortunately not worked him but he's good at catching squirrells and I'm hoping to do some ratting with him soon. He comes from "farm stock" or to be more exact, Seamoor Ponies, they used to be in Somerset but have moved back up north to Yorkshire. His parents normally do ratting around the stables. He is a very sturdy little dog with a great temperament, unless you're the postman . His sire is back right and dam front left Since he's not a pro
  16. Have the same problem with mine when he eats just wings, when the poo comes out it's more like compacted dust, probably because there is quite a high bone to meat ratio in chicken wings. My Jack is a greedy little bugger, he normally has about 3-4 wings plus veg or a leg quarter plus veg a day, normally use frozen veg too but I boil it first, probably creating extra work for myself there .
  17. The vets where I take my dog are probably not the cheapest, they charge about £40.00 for a consultation. Fingers crossed everything will be ok when you take him tomorrow but I'd look in to "health insurance" for the future if I was you. You won't be able to get cover quick enough for this injury but at least you'll have peace of mind if he hurts himself again. I was really glad I had it when my little mutt had to go for x-rays, not cheap .
  18. Hi Smokey, I've also had a look for "feeding threads". I've got a 2 1/2 year old short legged Jack Russell. I'm not working him (unfortunately, but will hopefully do some ratting soon) but he does get a lot of excercise off the lead and is good at killing squirrells . I normally feed him on raw chicken wings / beef / lamb, rice, vegetables and the odd table scraps and omega 3 and plaqueoff (wicked stuff to keep teeth clean). I boil a batch of rice and mixed, frozen vegetables, mix them together and stick it in the fridge (once it's cold) to use over a few days. When it's feeding
  19. Would just like to report our first kill, the boy managed to catch himself a squirrell yesterday .
  20. Apart from rolling in fox poo, which at the moment is his favourite trick, he does an excellent job chasing "urban foxes" and says he'd definitely like to have a go with some rats. So if anyone is ratting around Bournemouth just let us know and we'll be there
  21. Hello everyone, Just thought I'd pop in and say hello. I must confess to being a "non-hunter", to my Jack Russell's disappointment but I have to say that this forum has the best, down to earth, advice about mange. Said dog has a fondness of rolling in fox poo and rolled in the wrong pile the other day and trawling google I came across this excellent forum. Annika
