  1. I used to keep them years ago to feed to my lizards. I bought some meal worms from the pet shop and a packet of digestive biscuits, crushed the biscuits up and put them in a biscuit tin with some holes in the lid and put the meal worms in. They eventually turn into beetles and it's just a matter of waiting until the beetles produce more meal worms. I'm sure there's an optimum temperature to keep them at but this was when I was a teenager and still living with my parents so, much to my mums disgust, they lived in their tin under the lizards tank. 'What about the smell?' you may ask, but I thin
  2. I caught a juvenille a few years ago and kept it in a tank at home. Although I tried it with loads of different food stuff I only ever saw it eat slugs. It was about 6 inches long when I caught it and I released it back at the same place I found it a year later when it had grown to about 9 inches. Although they look like a snake they are technically a legless lizard. A beautiful creature.
  3. Have used nothing but Bisley Superfield for years after buying a bulk lot, but after running out recently I've just bought some AA field which I'm more than happy with.
  4. Let's just say it won't harm anything else, unless there's mice in heaven. Kev
  5. The blackbird chicks in the nest I posted the other day are no more. Came outside last night and mother blackbird was going mad. Looked to see what was wrong and there was a large black cat that she was bombing. Alas, I was too late, the nest was destroyed and the young gone. I know that's what cats do, but it's still upsetting/annoying, when she's gone to all that effort to build the nest, lay the eggs, sit on them and hatch them out only for some moggie to destroy everything. I wonder how many other birds it has killed. It had no collar on so I assume it was a stray. Well it too paid the ult
  6. Thanks Kay. I actually managed to pick one of them up. It gave a little squeal but then was surprisingly calm. And yes, I did let it go again unharmed. Kev.
  7. I wish I had a quid for every minnow I caught as a kid. Used to get loads with a net when I was about 10, keep them in fish tanks for a few weeks to watch them and then take them back and let them go. Then when I was a bit older a few of us used to have fishing contests with rod and line to see who could catch the most in a set time, tiny floats, barbless hooks and little bits of bread for bait. Always let them go again. I think minnows are a lovely little fishreally nice markings, especially in the breeding season. Kev.
  8. Saw a couple of these messing about under my goose house today, got the camera and waited for a few minutes and out they came. ev.
  9. The nest is down the side of an old chimney pot used as a planter, I didn't even know it was there. My daughter said she'd seen a bird fly out from behind it, so I had a look and that's what I saw so took a quick pic then left it alone. Blackbirds are gonna be busy now. Kev. PS. Cracking looking dog there Storm chaser.

    Pest Hunting

I believe someone once said 'a weed is only a plant in the wrong place'. In my opinion it's the same for pests. Kev.
  14. This might be a daft question but here goes- I have a Canon EOS300 and want to upgrade to digital. I have two lenses with it - a EF 75-300 and a 35-. Can these lenses be used if I buy a digital body. And what is meant when you mention noise? Kev.
  15. Sitting in a hide shooting pigeons when a really fit bird climbs over the gate and drops her knickers and squats for a pee thinking no one can see her, then saying 'morning' in a loud voice when she's half way through. Priceless. Kev P.S. I also like the first time a young dog gets it's act together and catches it's first quarry.
