I've just talen delivery of a pair of Meindl Dovre Extremes after spending ages trying on all sorts of different boots (le Chameau, Altberg etc). I can't reccomend them highly enough.. they are extremely comfortable out of the box and so far have kept me toasty warm and dry. Gez

Not sure of local estates to you, but my local FLO said he wasn't bothered about past recepits, they don't show a need to have a deer rifle in the future (ie what you are applying for)... a receipt for a future booking(s) on the other hand would be very useful. Gez

Some nice photos there Remmy, together with a great looking piece of land and a beautiful doe. Good work! Gez

Hi Luke The guy near me who does accompanied stalks charges £90 per rifle (max 2 per guide, and max 4 in a group but he prefers just 1 or 2). He doesn't charge a trophy fee and if you want to buy the carcass you can depending on the quality and weight of the carcass (but he reckons usually between £25 and £35 for a roe). Its not ideal if you want to go out a lot, but for the odd outing to get me going its a bearable price for me. As Gimli said, when/if you get permission, it can cost you little more than your time and amunition. And Gimili thanks... and congratulations on 2 shots

Bullmastif, I've been researching this as I'm going through the same process myself. As another route, I have heard someone say that they joined their local rifle club and used this as cause for the FAC to be granted for the claibre required. They also said that they got deer included as quarry on their FAC by completing their DSC 1 and stating that althought they do not have permission on any particular piece of land, they intend to pay for their stalks on a per day basis (although this isn't cheap, at under 100 quid a time, its not horrifically expensive either). This option of 'pay

Cheers guys, I appreciate the comments. I'd done a fair bit of research into it and I thought I was going along the right route (common sense kind of told me that too!) but its still good to hear from other people who've taken the same route. As an additional question, I know that for DSC 1 you have to get a 3 bullet group within a 4 inch circle at 100 yards, but this still seems not particularly accurate to me. As a personal target, what sort of grouping should i be aiming for to be confident in my marksmanship abilities once out in the field? Gez

I have copied this from the newbie forum, as I wanted to introduce myself here as well. Moderators please feel free to delete this if it is inappropriate. I've just joined up to the forum and thought it polite to introduce myself. I'm a complete novice when it comes to shooting live quarry. I have a friend who is an instructor at a rifle range who has offered to improve my shooting, and have spent a lot of time stalking deer when i was younger, but have never shot one. My uncle lives in Germany and owns the shooting rights to large areas of land with both deer and wild boar, and i
