I think you will find that they are classed as lurchers mate, as any herding or guard etc crossed with pure sighthound blood is classed as a lurcher, just like a gsd x greyhound is. But yes i do agree with you i carnt really see what the guy is trying to achieve by this mating a bit strange.

Leave him a few months yet mate, i give them a few easy ones at 7-8 months old and see how they go with them, every dog is different. But when you do make sure you pick some easy ones for him away from cover, as far out as possible, to give the dog a good chance of a kill, but even more importantly let the dog see the rabbit as the old saying goes, dont slip on squatters untill they move or move off, you will know when hes seen them, he will pull a bit ears prick, mayeven do a backflip on the lead lol, even if you have to knock the rabbit out of the seat with your foot do it. i hope this

Its a bit of a grey subject imo, as dogs in the wild would eat raw meat and they are adapt to cope with this in there digestive system, BUT, when you cook meat, i dont mean cook the hell out of it but just brown it slightly it could actually work in the dogs favour as this helps to breakdown the proteins in the meat which will inturn aid digestion and protein absorbtion.

Cracking looking dogs mate,, has anyone told you, you look like peter pan lol.

Just get one mate, i did when i was at home lol, didnt go down too well though, but then my folks just come to the conclusion that theres alot worser things i could have been doing than lamping rabbits at night.

Keep him on the slip, keep his head up, after a run dont let him hunt up, get him straight back on the slip lead.

These are the rabbits to test youre dog on as you say mate, aslo round here i dont have any choice but to enter a dog on these rabs, will get them a few sitters first and try to pick a few silly ones but in general theres only so much about to run, this does make a good dog mate, but youve got to know when to call it a night on the young dog in these areas, its a fine line between making or wrecking the dog, countless times my mate has said come on lets run somemore just a couple more we will have another,, and ive just said No mate enough is enough. I could go and drive up the hills like you

I see your from the same area as me mate, and yes the bunnies are pretty thin on the ground to be honest and the ones that are about are like little rockets, they fly, dont slow down by the hedge either straight in, the dogs got to be right up there arse for them to hesitate at the cover, i was out the other night and i didnt bag many, but the ones i did catch made me smile, they f*****g flew, i just thought well if hes catching them type of rabs then he will do for me. You will find that you have to have a good dog around here mate, as you obviously do. when you go to other areas with alot of

that is what im getting at Its just energy be it mental or physical.atb. Catcher could not agree more .:and i thought no one would say it . if some of you took the time to read the thread ,you would have seen this the answer i was looking for , , simple as ,nothing more nothing less ,looks like some one else knows his dogs ..and how do i obtain it in a dog ,simple plenty of work and build the lungs and heart up from very young ,because you wont get the same results with a old dog because they would have developed 90 percent of their lung and heart capacity already . I think the type of chest youre on about is not just a deep chest associated with a running dog, but also the width of the chest, if a dog has a wide ribcage aswell as a deep one it will have a greater lung capacity than a dog with a deep but narrow chest. Bigger lung capacity= more efficient delivery of oxygen to the working muscles therefore greater stamina potential. Look at alot of whippets built for short bursts, they have deep but narrow chests, a dog that is not renound for its stamina but for pure explosive speed, also comming in greyhounds, although many coursing bred greyhounds

But to answer youre origanal question," how can you tell if youre dog has plenty of stamina" i would have thought that it would be pretty obvious to tell whether youre dog has good stamina when out and about working, recovery rate from runs, the amount of runs the dog can make without going sluggish, and the way it deals with a long run.
