  5. i don't understand the quarter bull... winter daytime hares test any good dog, personally i can't believe anyone serious about preban daytime hares would touch a dog with any bull in, its doesn't mean a bull cross couldn't but not anything like a coursing type but thats my opinion, each to their own,,
  6. they do bounce back mate, its so stressful when they get hurt but honestly given time and i'm sure your dog will be grand, my bitch broke her leg last season and has only just recently fully recovered, the actual injury was fine but the mental bit took a tad longer,,when she done it the leg was swinging as if on string, made me feel ill and there was a few probs with ops on the leg but all is mended now and i'm so happy!!! my partner is sick to the back teeth of my saying 2she's back!" but she is completly back to normal and apart from scars you wouldn't even know it happened its very
  7. my bitch pup loves the water and always has done, these photos are a bit old now but she'll retrieve from water as good as most labs, i'm hoping to use her along side an air rifle and have her retriving game to me, as well as being used for ferreting,,, fingers crossed i'll take some more once i get more space on comp so i can clear my camera space!!

  9. wow thats amazing!! duck is my favourite type of meat! and your right its always the way, you've had a grand day getting your catch etc only to be faced with plucking them all,, it hurts your fingers and wrists after the first one and the feathers seem to get everywhere!!! all the best with selling these and i know it wont take long to take off all the very best Annemarie xx

  11. hello everyone this has probably been asked a thousand times but i'm looking to improve my camera which is a sony cybershot full hd 1080 which is a handy little one which does take some lovely shots the only problem i have with it is i can only get good action shots on the iso setting as when on the sport setting the photos are not as clear even though i have the advantage of being able to take continous photos when holding the butten down... i'm looking for one that i can use next season to take photos of lurchers chasing rabbits, terriers ratting, foxhounds, and horse racing etc i'd
  12. i am serious about working my dogs, come season both myself and my partner have said we'll travel to give our dogs as much work as poss and at times we work the dogs seperatly, we like having our dogs for a purpose and seeing them do what their meant to do, breed for a reason kept for a reason. however there are times when we can't work them, season ends, dog gets injured, lack of permission etc and i must say come summer at a country show i enjoy giving one or two of my dogs a stretch on the lure, i don't take it seriously, i don't have a grump if the dog doesn't win and i have a giggle i
  13. same here, clean them out, handle jill to check she's all well after the birth and still producing milk apart from counting kits and taking odd photo, once they've opened eyes i gradually start getting the jill used to me watching her and stroking her and the odd kit until all are used to it, then i'm all over them and loving every second! lol but it depends on the jill to be honest, the jill i have now i'll probably be able to be more involved when i breed her but the last one you had to take it slow, all the best with your litter and follow your instincts and don't push the jill lurc
  14. hope your dog gets better mate, sorry to hear bout the injury, nasty stuff that barbed wire!

  15. regarding your jill having her kits in the pen, are they warm in sawdust or bedding? if not remove the jill into a ferret box and feed her some raw meat, rub your hands and gloves in ferret scent from the jill, very swiftly and carefully move the kits into the bedding area, avoid touching the kits at all if poss, then pop jill with kits once she's finishe eating,, hope this helps xx

  16. as already said different dogs for different jobs on another note i have bull x and beddy x, i find that the bull x are much calmer, and easy going in their nature, my beddy x is a bet hyper in comparison each to their own, just enjoy your dogs,,,,
  17. as above i have a jill i'd like to have lined, will either pay to have her boarded with hob or have hob here, colour doesn't matter at all, must be good worker and healthy please help, owner of hob would be welcome to some kits, i'm breeding for own use lurcher lass xx
  18. hmmm what an interesting thread, good to have one to make you think for a bit, just be warned some get to snappy and bitchy but i hope this one doesn't turn sour,, i think your correct in what your saying as i'm sure we've all experienced these BUT i think they sort of blend and each circumstance is different from an other,,,, you could buy a pup from the best known working stock, seen the parents work etc really do your homework, introduce said pup to your household, bond with the pup, feed him up, get him all nice and fit but if its not in the dog to work then no amount of money time or
  19. hi there i have a whippet x greyhound/deerhound bitch, i will be very honest about this type from what i've experienced. she was my first lurcher to own though not to work, due to the deerhound in her it took a bit longer for to sort co ordination (sorry not sure on spelling at this hour ! but once there she's been flying since, her feet aren't anything to look at but she's never hurt them, she has good prey drive and is very keen, soft mouthed and trains well though is starting to get a bit cheeky as she gets older and wizer, due to the deerhound she goes long coated during winter yet g
  20. out of season is when i catch up with family i haven't seen due to working the dogs, last year myself, my daughter and three lurchers hopped on trains to essex, london, norfolk, peterborough loads of places in suffolk, means the dogs see new ground. we went swimming in rivers note the we me and the child and two of the three dogs would be swimming seeing fish all round us, it was great! i'l be cycling them in the evenings too to keep them fit and me sane lol
  21. all three lurchers from pups have been used to livestock but i'm still careful whilst out with the dogs, my pups first ferreting trip last season had him chasing bunny's over a ditch under a fence into a feild full of sheep, pup didn't batter an eyelid. i trust my dogs as much as you can trust a dog with horses, sheep, cows i've always thought its important any working dog to be sound with livestock otherwise what hope have you got in keeping your permission to enable you to work your dogs atb lurcher lass xxx
