  1. Brought a friend and his little son out ferreting for there first time. Great day had our sons loved it. rolling around in the muck, falling everywhere. They where covered in muck from head to toe. Got 5 rabbits 3 where digs and 2 caught at the entrance trying to bolt with ferret clamped onto the rabbits ass.Farmer gave us a pheasant also. The kids had to strip down to there pjs they where wearing under there mucky clothes before they got into the car. The kid in the red had his first day ferreting today, he loved it. Hopefully the bug will bite
  2. Shes still doing loads of silly patience testing puppy stuff. I have to laugh at her sometimes. Im enjoying the experiences with her
  3. Yeah its just patience. Just getting her out as much as I can ferreting and a bit of bushing to pick up as much experiences as I can provide for her. Happy enough with her bits and pieces shes doing. Shes learning solo as theres no similar type dogs there for her to learn from.
  4. Interesting,Don't get me wrong mine will push on if you walk along with your head in the clouds especially if their isn't any scent to keep them interested but they are nothing like the terriers I kept for 20 odd years if you took your eyes off them they were gone.Ive got 2 youngsters here that I can stop on a rabbit with a single blast. My mate has the mother to my young bitch she is also the 1/2 sister to my young dog she will flush gear all day when beating but as soon as we get the catapults out she will point gear and she's as good a marker with the ferrets as you could wish. Neither of us
  5. Thanks Wi11ow, yeah I got a pup cockerxpatterdale for my youmgest son for doing a bit of ferreting and bushing, shes showing good signs so far for her age. I wont be for a longtime down the line. If she turns out decent enough and a wanted a pup to run on from her.I was just courious weather to go more spaniel or terrier. Thanks
  6. Hi Wi11ow, just curious. Why did you put more spaniel in and not terrier when you bred the pup from your old bitch. ATB Ray

  10. A few years ago i owned a decent coursing sapling, the word quickly got out among the lads that lived 9 miles from Keighley and they wanted to see it run,if id refused they would have been even more curious,so a run was arranged,so as the mutt would not run at her best i fed her about a pound of the said tripe an hour before. On the day an hare lifted at 30 yds and the lads hollered for me to loose the Saluki hybrid,i let the hare have a little more and slipped her at 70yds,she bent and twisted it for a good minute or more and then stood honking her guts up,then was useless to run the rest of th
  11. You hit the nail on the head dont think anyone will ever know it all. I have one of those cockerxterriers for my son. Id say she will go through alot of fuel in her life time.Full of energy she is
  12. Leave the twatts to the twatts, make the most of the buzz your having with the wee guy. I have had 4 wee guys fly up in the blink of an eye and they dont want to ferret with there Daddy anymore. The youngest lad is 10 now and hes mad into the ferreting, well hes out since about 3 and a half years old. He will probably grow up and leave me to ferret alone. Its great to get the kids out.Had some great times over the years hunting with my kids and got to hear loads of sweary words especially if a rabbit got away
  13. sounds like a good day appart from the thick muppet
  14. The chances of the mutt developing problems when exercised with a feed in it may be rare, yet they happen, the chance of a mutt developing problems with little in the gut are far,far rarer.then again there is exercise and exercise. Luckily I didnt experience any ill effects in the dogs. The beagles would be on the go for 4,5,6 hours. which would be more extreme compared to the lurcher and terriers The lurchers that have been fed before a decent gallop stand out from the rest, they are bent double spewing their guts up.Even the bushers work with less desire when they have a belly full of grub

  16. Over the years at short notice I have just fed the dogs or they havent been fed when a mate would ring you to head out. Ive had beagles with full stomachs work for hours with no probs and with empthy stomachs. same with lurchers and terriers.

  18. my rock hard terriers after the women got there hands on them.
  19. Out for a couple of hours. Had the cockerdale pup with me again. Very puppyish today, well she is a pup. Let her have her fun. She got to experience a few different things this outing. Delighted with the lurcher she did very well grabbing a few bunnies on opposite side of ditch.
  20. Great getting the kids involved, your daughter looks like she had a good day.
  21. Is the bitch you had the dig to a parson russel. Its hard to make her out in the pic. Hope she keeps it up for you.Best of luck with her
  22. Starting one of those cockerx terriers myself. Well more for my son. Had her out the other day with ferret for the first time. Loads of good signs starting of, a bit of messing but on the positives shes great with the ferret going in and out of the borrows. Not too bad with the nets for the first outing. Got a couple of rabbits so she got to experience the conclusion of the hole experience from putting nets down to entering ferret and rabbits bolting. Great exprience for her. Shes about 4 months young
