countrymans weekly ,same photos all time
matty73 replied to matty73's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Matty: I've only ever sent in photos of my own dogs with articles, terriers and lurchers (apart from if I'm talking about someone else's dog or breed of dog) The dogs I write about in the Memory Lane articles are also usually the right dogs for the article, even if the photo has been scanned into my computer from old photos. Not many of them I'll admit as I never had a camera in the old days and its almost impossible to take good pics if your'e actually handling a dog or ferret in the field, besides which it doesn't do a camera much good to be out in the pouring rain, muddy dykes or whatever. -
nice shot mate did both dogs retrieve

i didnt say anything about blood n gore and as far as im aware rabbiting with dogs is still legal isnt it so why would it be hard to show relevant pics to those articles ?pictures of the actual dog thats being talked about would be a start instead of pics of dogs that have prob been dead for years in all honesty ,and this isnt about one individual writer penny /skycat so dont take it personaly its about the paper in general theres more adverts than decent articles on running dogs and in my opinion edrd is more terriers and digging than running dogs i would love to see a paper or mag just for r -

its like a woman hard to read and leaves you wondering why you bothered to anyway -
i stopped buying countrymans weekly years ago all though i still have flick through it now and then like this morning in newsagents is it me or have they been using same pics for last 10 yrs is any of them actually owned and worked by writers?. surely the paper must have photography man that takes show winner pics for them that could accompany writer while out and take relevant pics for article or is there some legal publishing problem to stop that happening

theres good and bad in all breeds and xs theres no definitive answer to the question only personal opinions and as were all individuals just like our dogs they are bound to differ which i think is a good thing if we all had same views and opinions it would be a fecking boring world .i dont like prunes but i dont tell other people not to eat them because i dont

theres good and bad examples in every breed or cross breed its usually the worst thing for a certain type to become popular as this means theres money to be made from churning pups out to sell usually from untested any old dog will do linings you only have to go back to when deerhound x was popular anything with rough or broken coat even a tinge of brindle was sold as deerhound x leaving the unfortunate purchaser with the misconception that x is no good
-
welcome and congrats on first pup what x is it and how old is it if you can find out what it has been getting fed that is what i would use first as well as raw meat, lambs fat and meaty bones then gradually wean it onto whatever you want to feed it doesnt have to cost a fortune redmills racer is about 13 a bag and will feed average sized lurcher 2 to 3 weeks if your feeding meat as well longer in summer i switch gradually to sneyds and meat as they dont need as much protien but everyone is different in short mate as long as pup is getting what it needs nutrition wise how it gets it doesnt matt

looks like you had good day

my hob does it with dead or alive rabbits seems to be only when theres other ferrets to ground though so maybe in his attempts to keep his catch from other ferrets he ends up comin out of sett altogether, thats just my opinion on my ferret by way nobody elses

nice one mate its a good post to see shows if you hang in there what bit of occasional ferreting can lead to once youve gained trust as its hard enough to get ferreting permission askin for lamping (around my area anyway) you may as well be asking for a quickie now and then with his wife
-
i prefer dog to leave netted rabbits while ferreting as pup as i think its easier to train to work longnets at later stage not that it stops them running into longnet a few times just think it helps imprint that mindset of netted rabbits are off limits only my opinion im sure everyone does differently
-
thats what the nets for mate if its set right itl hold rabbit til you get there and while your dealing with that the dog has the rest of the sett covered not that id let it run any bolters at this early age marking and watching will be enough for few month

sounds like hes comin along nicely mate goin out with airgun will do him no harm as hes not putting his young bones under stress running and hes retrieving what you shoot so hes already a useful member of the team just remember not to over do it too soon i wouldnt run it for at least another 4 or 5 month using that time to get the dog bang on with obedience an obedient dog is much easier and pleasurable to work with when it returns to heel with click of fingers and walks at heel not my cup of tea havin dog drag me round on lead because if let it off it just runs bout .not that im sayin your do

in a nut shell mate i would change its diet to raw meat and mixer biscuits limit its exercise and see if theres a change after few weeks if not take it vets
