    Oh, there are a few of us. My OH bought me a shotgun and springer for our first (paper) anniversary. Also, it was me who persuaded him that we needed a terrier and lurcher, as well as our other gundogs. lol Helen

    I am sure this question has been asked many times before! However, my brain is getting frazzled. We have started looking for a lurcher pup and are struggling to decide on which type. We mainly want one for rabbiting, on fairly smallish fields, with lots of rushes, and hilly in places. We aren't too bothered on size but possibly the ground we have dictates what we can have? We have a 2 year old son, as well as a cat and border terrier living in the house, and german wirehaired pointers in the kennel. We are wanting a type that can fit in with our life. (Lurcher will live in the house).

    We feed ours a full portion the night before and then half a portion for breakfast (they get fed twice a day anyway). We have had experience of a dog fitting due to low blood sugar so make sure they have something to pull on. Helen

    oops forgot about the brittany but they aren't REALLY a spaniel. Nice looking dog. It is one of the few breeds I haven't seen working. Have heard a lot about them on a working hpr board and they are supposed to be quite hard work but I guess you could say that for most hprs. Helen

    If you were too hard on my gwp, she would just crumble. Great working dogs but, like all dog training, you have to be consistent. I've not had any more trouble training my gwps than I have my springers. Now, pointers, don't go there lol. There are a number of hpr's out there if you want to go down that route but if you are novice, I would be tempted to go with a lab. A gwp was my second dog and he was hard work, but only because of my inexperience. Helen

    spaniels don't point.. sorry lol. Although, my old springer used to back my pointers up. Joe Irvine's books are good for training gundogs. Might be worth getting a copy. Helen

    Hello all, New member with 9 working gundogs - springers, gwps, pointers and a bonkers setter lol. Soon to be owner of a working border terrier - first foray into the terrier world! Dogs work on grouse, pheasants, partridge, duck, rabbits. Dog for all ocasions, or soon will be when the terrier (no name as yet) joins us in 3 weeks. Helen
