theres 5 badgers around here that i´ve dug which have bolted right after lifting the dog, and there are two that has bolted without any digging, i´ll let you know when i catch up with them

Look pal ye dog suits ye thats what counts that video didnt show much at all you didnt drop on your quarry it didnt show how far ye had to trench up that tube to get it out but i am pretty sure it was still a couple of foot up there the way the dog was up and out that badger never once tried to push or force its hand with that dog yet the dog was still up and down that tube, i dont think much of the dogs work style at all and would not class that dog as a badger dog and to be honest with that shovel and how ye dug that hole i thought ye was ferreting at first i am sticking to what i said in pr

well liamdelaney, last time i put this video up, you wrote: Posted 11 September 2009 - 06:10 PM I hope some of the people who rattle on about putting bull blood in working terriers will have a good look at the video of that dog working badger. That is the way a good badger dog works in and out does not let the badger pass him or break him up.But he wont let the badger dig on either. That is what old time dogs done and they worked day in day out." i liked that coming from someone like you, so i remembered it. i know people with terriers that will stay away from badgers entirely, because if th

thanks cleanspade, his daughter is ready to go now i think, just waiting for an opportunity

i dont know how many digs he has had as of now, but i have pics of the 20 first badgers and 3 foxes, plus a roedeer.
-
i can understand that, i just felt like putting up a pic after seeing that daily mail article, there are others than us watching this site, including norwegian anti-hunters who tend to believe that there is only one truth when it comes to terrierwork.

if they dig on he´ll go for their arses and force them to turn around. we do have a lot of clay in this area, so of course it could make the job easier for him.

as long as i do my job the badgers stay put untill the dog is lifted, only time he has been overrun is when i have dug down too close to the badger. the thing is you dont need a hard terrier to dig badgers, a bay and stay dog is all that is needed.
-
yeah, theres english blood in him, howlbeck. he´ll sit back a foot or so and bay his little head off as long as the badger doesnt try to dig on, works out just fine.

for no apparent reason, i felt like putting up a pic of my badger dog,5 years old with 4 seasons of weekend digging behind him. had a nice little dig with him last thursday.

heres a swedish breeder who works his to fox and badger. http://www.nickaskennel.se/

when talking about big terriers, what sizes are you talking about? my biggest terrier is 13" tts with a 15" chest, and he struggles to get to his badgers from time to time. anything bigger would be hopeless around here imo.

cool pic, i´ve seen other pics with jagds and lions, are there many that use them specifically for this "over there"?

cats kill something like 400 000 small birds each year up here, they are as big a pest to the fauna as the fox is
-
or maybe the cat owner should take better care of his pet? its to easy letting your pet out the door, and then demanding that other people have control over their animals

had a russian hound tree at domestic cat in the cat-owners backyard, awkward moment picking up the dog. had another cat bolt from a badgerset while digging, it got shot, will never forget the face of the shooter when he picked up the "badger" he had shot "i got it,it was f@ckin huge!!!"

another pic, rarely see them this dark, 16 pounder.

had a good one today, the snow has frozen over and its to "sharp" for the hounds, so it was up to terriers to stir things up. fitted loke with the gps and walked trough several small "forrests", with guns posted around it. he soon went to ground, i expected a badgerset so i was a bit surprised when i saw a foxhead poking out before it disappeared again, the fox soon bolted with loke behind him, loke chased after him baying like a hound, when the fox turned around and came back entering the same set from which he had just been evicted. loke in after him and bolted him a second time.

well, here it is, fox on top, pine marten on the sides and as hot as they come. dogs are climbing on me trying to get to, that might be a problem while hunting, and all of a sudden i have this craving for vodka

we had 6 to 10 feet of frost last winter, like concrete, i got laid of from work because we did´nt make a good enough progress to make a profit, i´ve been laid of for the same thing this winter with only three feet of frost. what would you do?stay at home from november troughout february?i wont, and thats why the little bolter is priceless to us and just as important as the digging dog. we rarely find foxes to ground unless they´ve been run in by a hound, so if the dog dont want to go, we´ll know whos to blame, and it has´nt been a problem so far. i prefer a dig over a bolt any day, but

get a nome styled harness and some heavy chains and a tire, weight pulling is good both for building muscle and stamina.but take it easy on him in the beginning, a day or two a week with the chains for the first month and then tires after that. change between long walks with light weights(chains) and short walks with heavy weights(tire). vary the lenght of both short and long walks. also pay attention to the surface you are training on. the nome harness is the type used by sleddoggers and ensures that the dog uses his entire body and not just the front. works well for our terrier, h

...or it boils down to if you´re in it for the sport or for pestcontrol. up here we´d have to pass on a lot of foxes if we did´nt have bolters.
