  1. i keep my head down, but thank you IanB for such a great web site
  2. its a fiver to be a donator and to be able to use it as a facility to sell livestock (which discourages peddlers?) or donate if you think its a great website . its a fantastic daily read and costs nearly as much for the whole year to be a donator as it does to buy 1 rubbish magazine full of adverts.
  3. looking nice now good stuff that tru oil. did you stain it first or are you going for a light colour
  4. nitromos paint/varnish stripper until all the varnish is gone and then wash it with hot soapy water. leave it to dry 24 hours then lightly sand away the old stain. then your back to square one, and ready for your different colour stain.
  5. good luck with your project matey
  6. i didnt do any sanding after the stain, and only one layer of stain was ok as the tru oil made it darker anyway
  7. its a scary thing to do at first isn't it i very lightly sanded between fine layers of fully dried tru oil (i left mine 24 hours) with very fine glass paper. i think i did about 6 layers it seemed to fill the tiny pores like this so looked smoother and had like a glassy feel to it after first couple of layers. i hung the stock in the shower cubicle while it dried (drove the girlfriend mad ) because the first one had some fine hairs and dust land on it and it was safer in there with no dust at all. the last layer no sanding at all and they dried glossy.
  8. the whikses mahogany was from a diy shop (whikses) and imho i thought looked better than the birchwood casey walnut gun stock stain. i will use it again if i do another stock. i think it was the tru oil that made them look well.
  9. i used birchwood casey walnut gun stock stain on 2 and whikses own brand mahogany stain on the other 2. when i stained them i left them for 24 hours before i did anything else with them as the stain dried back lighter. when the tru oil went on it changed colour completely, it went darker. and because the stocks where really dry the tru oil soaked in surprisingly well (all where beech stocks) I'm no expert but its just things i noticed as i did them all recently. they came up suprisingly well like this.
  10. i refinished a few stocks recently and when i thought i stained one of them too dark some light sanding with fine sandpaper took it all off easily. i finished my stocks with tru oil and when i wanted to see what shade it would look like before the tru oil went on if you put a small thin smear of saliva on your stock you can see what the colour will change when the tru oil goes on and it was a strange tip i was told that was surprisingly accurate
  11. i think so too, i want a 97k with one of these stocks. its gonna be my new years resolution to get one.
  12. there is theese on ebay if this is the kind of thing you are looking for, that are suitable for inletting for a hw 97k cs 700
  13. I second that laugh but I'm not sure if it was the girlfriend that bought them, do you have a matching pair for yourself she also told me she had seen a pink jacket that said "i must not chase boys" but i put my foot down at that! imagine taking her for a walk in that
  14. the girlfriend ordered simelar to these on Friday for my whippets Christmas present My link
  15. that's similar to what i did a couple of years ago. i sent glossy postcards made on vista print with a cover letter and a stamped addressed envelope. i sent 250 to random farms all around me and had one reply, which is still my permission now and was well worth all the effort. seen these for the next campaign shooting cards i bet the ordnance survey maps would show lots of missed farms! great advice and spa
  16. seen this a while ago and was a good watch, but it is still hard to beat an eavening watching a passion for angling, with a bottle of wine ( or two )
  17. i think theese are hard to fault for the money, i have used them for a few years in 2.50 for carp and eels, but the 2.75 would be better for chucking deadbaits out. rouge 2.75
  18. fishing is made to look complicated so that people make a lot of money from the industry. There aren't more fish getting caught the now than there was any time in the past. The only way you can catch more fish is to fish more..... experience experience experience.... so right i have been using an £8 spinning rod and a £5 reel for the last few years and had loads of pike on it. i see "tackle tarts" regularly and they catch no more than people using basic tackle. as said before its experience and partly venue in my simple eyes.
  19. they are verry nice, and some great pictures too!
  20. i see regular whippet litters advertised on gumtree in my area, it might be worth a search on your local gumtree adverts.
  21. well i finished work today at 9:30 pm and when i got home i thought i had best take the dog out for a good walk as last night i was too tired. i got to the park and when i pulled up i thought my lights seemed a little dim. anyways i took the dog for a good walk with my torch and when i got back my car battery was flat so i had to do a single person push jump into the car and bump off, car started happy days! then half way home my lights went dim again then my car completely died and i was stuck with no lights by the side of the road in nothing but my wax jacket in the pouring rain. i started p
  22. that is a beautiful looking gun. i have a similar one in 12 bore and black powder proof only that i only use occasionally. i am sure you could get some info and rough value on the sh*tgun w*rld forum, in the gun id and value section. i have used this a couple of times before and where very useful.
  23. nowadays i am a printers assistant which is OK, i originally went through agricultural collage and worked on a farm for a couple of years until redundancy struck there isn't many decent farm jobs round me - i think about it every day .
