  1. should be an interesting cross... as a well bred springer is intelligent, tough and has bags of stamina will work all day for you. But on the downside a first cross might throw a bit on the heavy side, would still make a good ferreting dog though. If used for lamping the cross might have to much nose and could hunt up rabbits after theyve long gone. Keep us posted if you decide to give it a go!
  2. I wouldnt let people know you had money like that lying around!!!
  3. They look as if there going to be cracking dogs!!! As for labs being soft, on the shoot in wales i go to, ive seen a dog Lab kill a fox caught in a snare. just picked it up and shook the life outa it! the dog got a few nips but didnt seem phased by it, i didnt think a labs had it in them till i saw that! I quite fancy trying a springer x Greyhound!
  4. I got a good pair of thick trousers (about 90% bramble proof!)in the hunting section in decathlon, cheap too!
  5. Another good read! the inlaws to be didnt seem to impressed when i ignored them all xmas day and read the book instead!
  6. This is quite common with collie lurchers, they try and herd the rabbit instead of picking it up! keep retrieving with a dead bunny, and if you can beg/ steal/borrow a lure machine tie the rabbit to that and gee the dog up to catch it, if not use a piece of string on a dead bunny and run round letting the dog chase and catch, you might want to do this out of sight as you tend to look insane!!!
  7. A lot of fox dogs dont make the grade as they are not entered properly! nothing to do with training, some chav will buy one set it on a fox at eight months and sell it when it jacks. a dog needs to be both physically and mentaly mature before taking a fox. If as you say, your dogs well bred and you enter him properly(which im sure u will) and dosnt make the grade, i agree you should find a good owner and pass it on as a rabbiting dog. Im getting at the messers that dont have a clue, that get through 3/4/5 dogs a season looking for the perfect dog (that might not exist!)
  8. Yea i agree that would be an extreme circumstance
  9. A dog should be for life. if you research the breeding and pick a healthy pup theirs no reason why it wont do the job trained and entered properly.(exept in extreme circumstances) A lot of people expect their dogs to be world beaters at the age of 12 months, As for young lads being blamed, its rubbish there are more middle aged blokes swapping round dogs. They treat them like they would a car, using them for a season and swapping them for somthing else.
  10. If there are a lot of rabbits in Dekers area then as a pest controller he wouldnt be doing a very good job, if he packed up for the summer! Farmers/ clients want results! The areas which I hunt for sport and food have only a small number of rabbits so i choose to limit the amount i take and only do it throughout the winter months. I think an enforced close season on rabbits would be a mistake.
  11. i av a cage you could bye £20 onley 3mounth old let mi no mate ears the cage iwill get a better one up tomorrow Where abouts are you pal? Yorkshire might be a bit far

  13. Yep will do, i can get wood from work, Ill see whats available for me to borrow! Has anyone got any tried and tested designs? any photos? Jake
  14. Im looking at getting some new ferrets, and the hutch ive got in the gardens seen better days. I could do with a few ideas and was just wondering if anyone has any photos of a recommended type of hutch? it needs to be big enough four up to four ferrets. I will be building it myself as shop bought ones dont seem to be very strong/good quality. also i will be looking for a couple of ferrets near stockport. Many thanks Jake
  15. like Tomo said dont use your dog to chase rabbits back to the warren, walk them in, because they seem reluctant to bolt once chased and diggin at night is a pain. Ive only tried it once its obviously a lot more difficult, a torch is a must unless full moon you dont want to be cutting your ferret in half with the spade! We used the little glowsticks you get for floats when night fishing and attached them to the locator collars.
  16. A lass that can gut a rabbit does it for me  ...............and tweed knickers
  17. she could make anything between greyhound/saluki size down to bull size !!!! you could take an average of the parents height but really its pot luck.
  18. Good pups, at a fair price. if your not interested keep your f*ckin beak out. Things sell for what ever people are willing to pay for them.
