  1. My choice would be a second hand anschutz with a short barrel next would be a sako finfire also secondhand. You don't need to go new if you want something new get a new scope and a moderator. Bolt action IMO are best as the semi's always jam at the most crucial times.
  2. Hi Decker 14 out of 15 Ran at Least 20 metres.... I think there is a message there somewhere!!!..and it isn't about a bigger hole!! And the message is ???
  3. I agree with most on the thread but lets look at the first post . It do's not to me seam like the person asking the question is going to be taking neck shots. And i based my post on a heart lung shot hence big hole is desirable. My reasons are ;- Bullet in excess of 129 grn Not hyperspeed potential of meat damage [ although if through ribs should not happen ] Small grn bullets don't always exit [ lack of blood trail ] .243's don't all like 100 grn and above pills [ bad grouping ] My first two seasons on fallow and muntjack with .308/.260 resulted in 15 beasts down
  4. Agree with Deerstalker . .243 will put sika on the grass but a BIG hole makes them lie down quicker !
  5. Springers and gsp's are great But if you are doing alot of water/cold work then a lab might be up your street. Due to gsp & ess having coats not so suited to alot of water work If you think a springger is hard work don't even look at a brit . If covering mainly land on your own the gsp's give you time when on point to ready yourself for a shot. p.s. i have a ess as my main hobby is beating
  6. Sounds like you confirming what i thought you were !
  7. Quote :- MAD AL I don't like being told that what I said is not true, as what I write is what I know, usually through my own stupidity, but it is still the truth. Hi Al Please read my posts before you post . If due to the red mist coming down and you can't see go and sit down have a cup of decaff and calm down . I only pointed out the scientific evidence and the conclusion of that was to carry on warming up !! Have you any points on the dog sweat issue or am i right about that one ?
  8. Sorry again mad al ! But i got it slightly wrong [ but only the place ] It was Australia not New Zealand Study was by Department of Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine Monash University Central & Eastern Clinical School Alfred Hospital Commercial Road Vic 3004 Australia Results of the study was out of 5 groups studied on the effects of warming up exercises of reducing injury on the Human body were. 3 said warming up significantly reduced the effect of injuries 2 said warming up was not significantly effective at reducing injuries The Conclusion
  9. Sorry Al but it is not true that warming up prevents injuries . The kiwi uni did some testing on rugby teams around 2000 and found no evidence of more or less injuries due to warming up . While warming up and down IS recommended they proved that it will not reduce the amount of injuries. A dog that has had a full days beating is full of lactic acid and a warm down can not be done the next day. How far your races were over ? I have never seen a dog wet with sweat
  10. i would have thought a day walking around the house or garden would be enough . if you ran a around for 20 + miles in a day what would you do the next day ? Bet it would not be a 2 mile jog !
  11. The brass case i keep my umbrellas in says :- 5.25 in mk II lot 394 ICI S 1943 on the bottom any ideas chaps ?
  12. To late i'm afraid dog has to be under 5 DAYS old . you could have it removed by a vet but it is now a big job general anaesthetic and Big Bill ! That is if you can find a vet that will do it ! Animal welfare act 2006 makes the rules !!
  13. Hi Deker not keen on this humble pie but needs must .
  14. Have you looked at the 1991 Deer Act ? Schedule 4 section 2 Prohibited weapons 1 Any smooth bore gun 2 any rifle of less than .240 or less than 1700 ftlb muzzle energy 3 any air gun , air pistol air rifle Ammunition 1 any cartridge for use in a smooth bore gun 2 any bullet other than a soft nosed or hollow nosed
  15. First question the reasons you want to breed your dog ? Because you like him Because he looks good and has a nice persona Because he is an out standing example of an ESS Because you want a pup that is an exact replica Because he has clear eye's and 00 hip scores The stud fee would hardly be worth having Because he is one of the best working dogs in the country No wanting to sound negative and he is a nice dog and my favorite ESS colour. But his pedigree is not outstanding my own bitch has 27 FTCH and 13 FTW out of 62 dogs and i can't say if she is worth breeding from yet . There
