I was looking for a better deer caliber a couple of years ago, I have a .308 but the rifle is very heavy and not pleasent for walked woodland shooting. I was advised to try 6.5 x 08 and can say i am so glad that i did. My other choices were 6.5 x 55 or 25.06 both exelent rounds with IMO the 6.5 has the edge but i prefer the short action of .308 family i also use .22-250 . I would also have tried 7 x 08 but had the chance to try one and never got on with the bark and bite of the .270. ATB coldweld

Richard that would be Trespass with a firearm ! Looking at a spell of HMP !! Irrisective of your intent to end suffering .

Depends on the county bylaws . Some allow wildfowl on sundays some don't.

The simple answer is ignorance is no defence ! Therefore if you are unsure do NOT enter land you have no permission on to retrive a dead/wounded beast. A, if you take your rifle- offence ARMED TRESPASS [ to kill a wounded animal 'which you have wounded is not a valid reason for tresspass' b, leave unloaded rifle on your land- offence Falure to store/secure firearm ' plus you might take the bolt which as part of a firearm becomes Armed Tresspass. c, Even if the deer is shot on your land you have no legal right to enter someone elses land to retreve it as said deer belong to no

do you weigh your cases..........

Well: I don't think it makes any difference at all, and given that YOU have NO CHOICE of brass because you bought a 'weird' calibre, what are you planning to do about the difference in the weights anyway? What you need to concentrate on are the things YOU can influence, bullet, powder, primer and most of all consistancy in all of the preceeding, get only the best of components, take great care especially with the powder charge weight and the bullet seating. The case is 'only' a container for the powder and a grip for the bullet, not anything to get excited about, but if your losing sleep -

Hi mate, can you tell us how to determine how many foetuses and likelihood of ticks by looking at the tracks? Thanks G Are you asking if he knows or don't you know your self ? LOL !! i thought it was a joke too !! -
Last time my cert went in i asked for a temp one as i was booked to go stalking, Derbyshire said just go everything is in order . I was not convinced so i phoned Northampton to ask their Firearms dept and they said there is no need to ever carry one of the NEW type certs as all my details are on the PNC ! I have confimed this with two serving officers one who is an ARV driver. Contact the police and BASC and make a complaint to both ! ATB coldweld

I have a .260 rem light stalking rifle with a 20' barrel . With the mod it is a sweet rifle and you can see the strike ! Without the mod it kicks like a .243 but has a loud BARK . Try a crono before you change barrels if it is deer legal you are fine ! Short barrels can't be that bad RPA do a .243 and .308 woodland stalker with a 16'' barrel

What do's it say on the barrel flats ? If i was to guess i would say Birmingham made looks nothing like my AYA yeoman, apart from it a s/s boxlock !
-
I agree jamie ! But like yourself and most other people on here my stuff is not british ! Even though i could try to claim some moral high ground with a british designed rifle my AI was made in america . I bet the raw materials for the british product are sourced from outside the uk ?

What has british made got to do with it . How many on here use british rifles or ammo ?

I seem to recall (it was a while ago now) my S5 was 660g, and the Compact IS 590g (don't believe the hype), the S5 hangs off the end of the barrel and The Compact is an over barrel version! It makes a lot of difference to the balance!! My S5 IS 600g and is 3 years old well used , don't think 60 g has fallen of it though . Says 580g on ASE site but is deffo not 660g. I have not got a compact but would look at one when my old T8 starts to show its age. Compact is shown as 540-570g on the site so allowing for their tollerance i would say 560-590g depending on caliber so the sma

Ase S5 is 600 grams and the compact is 555 grams .

If you want the simplest load book you have to look no further than the paper insert that comes with your LEE dies. Follow that for starters it includes OAL sizes and a few loads so you won't do anything that will harm you or the rifle ! Dont worry about flat based bullets just gently hold them on the case as they go in the die and you won't have a problem as they will seat by the action of the die. I use hornaday 55grn spsx in my .22-250 Take your time learn to walk and then you will find running easy

Have you tried half a cup of ice cold water in the cockers face and a no when he starts ? It certainly gets the dogs attention without any contact.
