No worries, mate. The response certainly wasn't taken that taken that way, from this end. This is one of those THL thread that is a genuine pleasure to read and long may it continue. Training is one of those subjects that seems to have common ground amongst the membership and it's refreshing to see knowledgeable posts that are positive and posted with the sole intention of helping everyone. It's transcended political and religious divides and shows that we're all decent blokes despite being hidden behind the keyboard. In defense of the squat as an all round conditioning exercise it

If you can only do one exercise. Squat.

That's why I was talking about being a hypocrite earlier in the thread. I'm washing down my cheese on toast with a bucket of coffee. I understand what the problem is I'm just not willing to act on it 100%
-
That's key and to echo what Gnash said earlier in the thread aches are good and pains are not. Stick with it if it's working! Good on ya, mate!
-
I would. Steady away though especially if you're training alone.

I'd go as far as saying more so. Calories are far more abundant in the 21st century than at any time in human development. Combine that with the fact we're all running on stone age hardware and you start to understand why many of the biggest killers are directly down to what goes in the hole under the nose.

Don't worry, mate. My mam used put bacon in my pockets so at least the dog would play with me. It's a tough world!

That's true but simply lifting weights isn't going to bulk you up unless that's the direction you take it. If you do it right it'll improve your ability to run around on the pitch and help you shift fat at the same time. I get what you're saying about dropping weight but it's the quality of the weight you're dropping that's the concern. You're attempting to lower your bodyfat and increasing lean muscle mass will help with that. Look at your footballers and you'll see they do different gym work compared to rugby players who will do different work than powerlifters. Most people stand on the

You're not too late. You're not too old. Have fun with it!

As they're prone to! Bring it back around! This is one of the better ones for while!

A Chinese woman carrying two passports, four mobile phones, a laptop, external and thumb drives containing malware was detained at Don's Mar-A-Lago resort by security services. Don and his family were there. An investigation has now been launched into the security as she was able to move through multiple checkpoints combined with the amount of additional funding to come at the expense of his unorthodox movements and just who exactly has access to the president amid allegations of Chinese spying. The meet was advertised on Chinese social media, with tickets, and this is run by Li "Cindy" Yang

That's a fair one, mate. I figured the infantry branches would be higher for obvious reasons but I've never been in so I was just curious as to how much.

When I was first over here in 1998 I was training at Gold's in Bountiful, Utah. The manager there was a Samoan super-heavy weight and we got on really because we were the only ones that weren't lining up for the Nautilus machines! He used to have a VHS playing on loop of Kirk Karwoski's 1000lbs squat that he did for 2 reps. Karwoski set the world IPF record for 1003lbs in 1995 that I believe still stands today. That's a man I'd like to have a beer with along with Eddie, Magnus, Jon Pall, and the late Paul Anderson although he'd probably have skipped the beer and had a Peps

Question for serving and former military. How many live rounds do you send down range on a monthly basis? Excluding combat deployment?
-
Back to the topic. I can't believe no one has posted Eddie's deadlift yet... I don't care where you're from. That's impressive!
-
Absolutely, mate. For the record I have nothing against it as I've heard nothing but good things overall. My only grievance is listening to some of it's practitioners... It's like the joke... Have you heard the one about vegan, crossfitting, yogi? They didn't know which one to talk about first. Without wanting to derail the thread that's also mandatory and anyone that tells me I don't need a semi-automatic needs to do a ride along with us one day. Anyone one of our lads that doesn't carry is a target. Period.

Those groupings...

How does the saying go. Even your best gear is made by the cheapest bidder. I work for a security company in Las Vegas and body armour is mandatory. Last night we drove back from our Los Angeles branch and you can hear the gunshots in the distance. The silver lining here is that California has recently been slapped over it's high capacity magazine ban. Ruled unconstitutional. 33 round stick mags all around!

I've heard similar Gnash and while I'm curious about it I wouldn't know where to start. It would mean going and learning. Looking at some of the patrons of the yoga studios in my nearest city I'd have a hard time with that. Given the choice of listening to a dreadlocked 20 y/o talk about lotus positions or practice failure to stop drills at my range I'm locking and loading everytime! Range time is my yoga but I do meditate for complete balance!

Same here. Mines from jumping in and out of the truck all day wearing 30lbs of steel body armour. Always favoured my left leg hence the twinge. I've been lucky there though. I've still been able to squat but I've plateaued on weights. I could get a couple of reps on the 3 but one and hold was where I was at. I kept saying I'd get myself certified on it when I moved over here but you know how that goes! I was in awe with the No4. Hard to believe no one has closed it (officially at least) in 15 years. Notepad and biro. If you're fancy you can get one of those space pens and

I've got the full range of motion I'm just not happy with some of the spectacular failures I had when I did bench. Some days I could rep and then others I'd feel the pain and then it would just give out. Now I'm training alone for 90% of the time it's not worth the risk. I've got dipping attachments for the squat racks and now I have the weight below me and it's a huge psychologically. Not that I can dip worth a sh*t to begin with!
-
I have, mate. I've got an 800sqft detached garage and I cleared it out and dedicated a corner so I could open Bat Fastard's Gym & Grill! I recently invested in some quality squat racks from Ironmind and they've got a really low footprint at 4' x 8'. I won't bench any more not because I can't get a spotter at 0100 but because my rotator cuffs are shot but I do have a decent dipping bar which will be plenty for me. Olympic bar and plates and I'm set. I've got a few other tools on the wish list but they'll be on a need only basis. Happy days!
