  1. I'm currently shooting a springer but it's purely because of my budget. I've got a Webley Stingray Deluxe which I picked up 2nd hand for £100. Mint. It's paid for itself a few times over in pesting operations! I like shooting springers because they're better for improving your marksmanship. But I've had a crack at most of the rifles on the market. Some I love, some I detest. If you were to put your identical twin on a pre charged, for six months, whilst you shot a springer he would out shoot you. Initially. When you swap over you'd out shoot him on his own gun because you've actuall
  2. If you're going new you'll have to budget for charging kit too. Pumps start at around the £100 mark so if your budget is £400 you're looking at £300 for a rifle and scope. Doesn't leave you much room to breathe. Could be worth hanging on a month longer and saving yourself a little more dosh. The S200 is a fine choice of rifle. Very light. Very portable. Very well balanced. Full powered hunting rifle that is no frills but very effective... just look at the bags Mr Darcy is getting. £250 for the single shot S200 £100+ for charging equipment £40 for a silencer (minimum for the Air Ar
  3. What sort of budget have you got? Probably easier to start there as the options are vast and rifles can start at £30 and go up into the thousands.
  4. I didn't weigh it so you'd have to have a shufty at the manufacturers dimensions but it feels alot lighter than the carbine... probably on a par with the S200. It's a carbine action with all the woodwork stripped away... very tempting...
  5. Mr D. Preliminary reports from the field are saying that there are problems with the .177 retro fit magazine catching the stock? Are you having such problems?
  6. Sounds good. I had a play with the S410 TDR, today, and I have to say I'm well impressed. It's a weird looking design but I like the way it breaks down and is utterly portable. It was zeroed at 30 yards and I was allowed to fire a 10shot mag through it. Two collared doves were dispatched in the yard and the other 8 shots put through a paper target on a bit of a range... I'm well impressed with it. Fit's nicely into a rucksack.
  7. How many shots are you getting on a charge Mr D?
  8. You should be able to sort something nice out for that kinda money. If you want a precharged rifle make sure you budget something for charging equipment otherwise you'll be back and forward to the shop. Cheapest starts at £100 new. If you like the Air Arms range have a look at the S200 and 400 series. Excellent rifles and plenty about. There are alot of S300 series guns about and while they're great to work with spares are getting harder to come by. S200's are the cheapest precharged on the market and are a worthy addition to the pest controller's armoury. If you fancy a spring gun £
  9. Celebrating this holy day with breast of wood pigeon, roasted partridge, venison steaks to be washed down with a bottle or two of France's finest... Be merry brothers and sisters... prepare yourselves for the winter.
  10. How much are you looking to spend, Alfie? Are you after new or 2nd hand?
  11. They have them in... very easy to fit, but you'll need a few basic tools. You can buy spare mags too... which is even more reason to fit one!
  12. Have you got the multi shot mag yet Mr Darcy?
  13. It's all up in the air at the minute... several MP's have already said they should listen to the Commons and not resist. If they do then they'll use the Parliament Act. Word from Downing St is that Tony wants a middle way but he didn't vote on the last 2 so don't expect too much....
  14. Some of us were built for work not for show, Rob
  15. I like shooting springers because of their character. PCP's are too sterile. I've shot a Venom Mk1, only 30 of them in existance and I really loved that gun... it wasn't mine and I'd need about £1500 to get one and that's if one of the owners wants to sell it. Saying that if you need a functional tool, for pest control, PCP is the way to go... look at the Weihrauch HW100. Probably the finest rifle on the market for my money. They're quieter, more accurate and as a result deadlier! CD's against LP's is a good comparison but a springer will make you a better marksman the longer you sho
  16. S300 spares are hard to get hold of now. S200 is cheap and now a multi shot. Accurate too. Hard to tune now with the manufacturers restrictions.
  17. I had chance to have a play with a gas ram Lightning and I reckoned it was a little smoother. The recoil was sharper, which took a handful of shots to get used, and it was slightly quieter too. Didn't have it long enough to decide whether it shot any better (Translate that to 'improve my piss poor shooting' )
  18. The HW25 is designed more as a plinker than a full blown hunting rifle. It's really accurate too. Surprisingly so. The Germans are a big nation on field target shooting and the HW25 is designed to encourage that from very early on. I certainly wouldn't recommend attempting to take live quarry with it unless your fieldcraft is such that you can get with 15-20yards for a head shot. Saying that a couple of years shooting a junior rifle, for an 8 year old, would have some pretty impressive results...
  19. Not sure what it means exactly but I've been told it's a hare krishna word. Karma and all that...
  20. Has your young lad/lass asked you for an air rifle yet? If they've seen you out with yours then theres a chance that they'll want one sooner rather than later. Problem comes when they're too small for an adult sized rifle. Weihrauch have it sorted... The HW25 is a purpose designed springer for youngsters. It's 6ft/lbs, which is half the legal limit, but's traditional Weihrauch quality and ace to play with even if you're used to something a little bigger!
  21. Had a look at the new Brocock Enigma today. First glance and it appears they're trying to copy the Logun S-16. Second glance looks like they've failed at it... Not had chance to have a proper go yet but I was wondering if anyone else has had chance to have a play? What are your thoughts on it?
  22. Deben have decided to bring their range of ferret and terrier finders into the millennium. On display, at the Midland, was the new generation of locators that have been 4 years in the making (30 years if you're a cynic). The new set up brings a knocker box that resembles something from a Star Trek episode. It has lot's of flashing lights but we're assured by Deben that they're functional. These are different search modes which take the range up to 20 feet. They now have a bright orange high vis option which is handy to prevent backfilling and consequently re-digging...
