Pesters of the world..............
ChrisJones replied to mackem's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
Looking at his site plan a few of Britain's pest control companies could learn a thing or two about clarity. At least this guy has attempted a site plan which is more than can be said for some of the big boys! It's hard to tell what's happening, just from the map. Insect coverage near bottle washers (renown for cockroaches in the UK in our glorious hospitals), and mosquitoes outside... You could make a fortune for this guy if you showed him how to install and maintain fly screens! You can buy aluminium phosphide from agricultural merchants in the UK... we're not that advanced when -
Jonathan Darcy is the moderator on the Running Dog section. He's here guys.

Hiya Hing Any ideas why the local council will only allow you to use air rifles? If they've risk assessed the situation they'll know that air rifles are probably the last choice, and it's very surprising that they'll ignore everything but shooting. They have a legal obligation to keep the land clear of rabbits. It's not really their call how it's done, it's up to you as the pest control technician on site. I'd certainly be looking at other options to compliment shooting. If you're looking at those kind of ranges, for shooting, then you'll find it impossible with a standard air rifle. I

Looking For Your First Rifle?

Updated. Thanks for your time gents. -
Torn between both. Springers taught me to shoot but PCP's helped me pay the bills. Springers definitely teach you more about marksmanship.

I'd be very interested to see what it chrono's at! If it looks alright it might just want an overhaul and bit of a clean up... wouldn't even want to guess what parts prices and availability are like but if you're looking for a restoration project I guess the limit is up to you. I think some pics are in order too!

Yer only waited an hour some people know Jack Sh!t about rat hunting, the 20 views maybe were those who knew nowt, the lads on here don't need prompting, Som, a bit of patience goes a long way. Missed this one first time around. Looking at the profile of the person that asked the question. They joined on the 13th January and haven't been back since they responded to this thread. A grand total of 9 days membership. Someone has a problem and they want it solving immediately. They think that because all their problems aren't solved, within an hour, that it's fair to criticise. MILITARY LOOKLIKE RIFLES GIVE BAD PRESS????
ChrisJones replied to JOE BLOCKY's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Also walnut is expensive and synthetic stocks keep the cost down. The offset is that while we're saving the walnut, in the environment, we're polluting it with the relevant amount of chemicals it takes to make a rifle stock. Comanche said that people who are anti gun will be against guns no matter what. I can partly agree with that but I think public perception, of shooters, is based on our actions and our inability to present ourselves in a way to tackle these myths. It's our duty to educate others. To expect them to come to us is folly and partly the reason why hunting with hounds w -
Psychology. Weapon implies offensive action. Soldiers carry weapons as they may have to be aggressive. Armed Response Units carry firearms as their role is one of law enforcement. If weapon is the correct terminology, then why do civilian experts deal in firearms? I disagree. Air rifle 'technology,' if you will, has been around since the 15th century. In the late 1700's France had snipers equipped with air rifles. They were superior to the muzzleloaders of the time as they could be fired when it was wet and didn't have the muzzle flash and plumes of smoke of their black powder altern

I can see what you mean, with regard to price. Something cheap to work on, if you have the skills, can be great especially if you're into restoring rifles but I still don't understand what the attraction is for these particular rifle. It can't be comfort because of the design. It can't be just power because there are better rifles available for the purpose. Discretion seems to be a popular reason but when these rifles are actually put together they become the anti-thesis. They're discreet in a small bag but they attract varying degrees of attention when they're put together. They shoot no

Ask him how much he is prepared to sell it for. Price ceilings have been mentioned above although I'm presuming you've seen the gun and can vouch for it's condition. Ask him how much he wants. If it's within the prices mentioned... or lower, then buy it. That's if you really want it. They're good rifles but remember that you'll need some way of charging it. Let us know how you get on.

And now I'll sticky it... it's getting some interesting feedback!

I'm no expert but I reckon surfing the forum, during basic training, will get you in a shit load of trouble.

10? Why so many, if you don't mind me asking? I know early Stealths were popular home tunes but what is it about that style of rifle that is popular? They're uncomfortable to shoot and appear to be generated for looks rather than anything else.

Yep. The Midland is the worlds most expensive car boot sale.

Superb definition John. Words are potent weapons whereas a firearm is just a firearm.
-
Do you think that's the case though? Are you sure that the non-shooting public don't draw the distinction between us and the likes of Michael Ryan and Thomas Hamilton? I'm not trying to play down these rifles. They're popular and they certainly work, it's just that alot of non-shooters see us as Walter Mitty types and we do absolutely f**k all to try and dispel that myth. We do, however, churn out rifles that can be misconstrued as military. People aren't always stupid but most are ignorant and many will ask why do you want a gun to look like that.
-
I see what you mean there, CW. Both examples are take down rifles and that capability makes them very discreet when you're moving to and from. But Air Arms also make an S410 in a take down version and it's not military looking at all... also the S200 is quite small and is very discreet. If you look at the silencers the Gunpower has one of the biggest silencers on the market. The Air Arms has a discreet aftermarket option that looks like a muzzle break. I know I'm sorta playing Devil's Advocate but with the growing popularity of these rifles I'm just wondering what the attraction is

We've got some new polling options, so I set one up. No replies necessary, to the thread, but you can if you want! This is just for fun!

MILITARY LOOKLIKE RIFLES GIVE BAD PRESS????
ChrisJones replied to JOE BLOCKY's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
I tend to agree Ditch. I have nothing against the military rifle... I mean if it wasn't for the military market there would be a piss poor civilian one. All the great advances in firearms were as a direct result to the need in the field. I can see why a black synthetic stock would be preferable to an expensive piece of walnut. While the environmental impact of plastic is questionable, the shortage of quality walnut is of concern and it also keeps the price down to the affordable. I also understand the advantage of camouflage and the need for fieldcraft. What I can't understand is w -
I started this topic as some of you won't read the Rimfire, Centrefire, Shotgun section. It's in response to this thread, where the author has expressed a concern about the public image of the military styled rifle. To bring the relevance to airguns, does the presence of the Gunpower Stealth and the Logun S-16, to name a couple, effect the way airgunners are perceived by the non-shooting public? When someone buys an air rifle what makes them choose a military looking piece of kit, over something like an Air Arms S410 or Falcon FN19? Is there any psychology to play over these tradi

MILITARY LOOKLIKE RIFLES GIVE BAD PRESS????

Question. What is the attraction of the military looking rifle? What function does it have over the standard model? -
Moral of this story is that if you want to be good at the job get off your arse, turn the computer off, and go out and learn!
