  1. Mine, not quite two years old.
  2. He was wormed last month but not for a few months before that. He dad was pure deerhound and mum a collie cross. She was a broad dog though. Why not Doc Johns?
  3. I have a two year old deerhound cross. He has never been the stockiest build and we always thought as he got older he would put on weight and bulk up. He looks really skinny now, I can feel all his spine and ribs and can see his hips clearly. He has a lovely glossy coat and loads of energy but just looks so skinny. He is fed a mix of veg, bones, raw meat, chicken etc and Doctor Johns dry food. Any ideas how to bulk him up?
  4. We live near plymouth, and just got our ferrets done. Free check up and 12 quid for the jab. I was appy with that.
  5. Hi, Just worked out how to put pics on here. Here a pic of my deerhound cross.
  6. Yeah it's privately owned foreshore. The fields by the river are out of bounds so it leaves the mud flats and the small bit of marsh.
  7. Hi, I have just been luckily enough to get permission on 4 miles of tidal river bank. The river is massive about 1/4 mile across. The edge is open mud flat with a very small piece of marsh. I have looked it over during the day and it seems barren. There must be ducks using it. Where to start?
  8. Anyone know of a decent vet in the Plymouth area. Its for my ferrets and lurcher so will have to be ok with working animals. Cheers
  9. My ferrets seem to have had the sh*ts for a couple of weeks now. Thet normally get feed the minced meat the dogs get but have swapped to day old chicks. Its stinking out the garden. Any cures???
  10. I have a 14 month old deerhound cross that is getting fed twice a day at the moment and I was thinking about going down to once a day. He is not putting on weight as he runs a lot, but I dont want him to lose condition if i reduce it to once a day. Any thoughts?
  11. Just looking for new opportunties for the fast approaching season. Anyone know of any wildfowling in the South Devon/Cornwall area. Cheers
  12. looking for a new supplier for meat for the dogs. Have read some good reports of Landywoods but also some bad ones. Anyone had bad experience of them?? Someone mentioned TPMS for getting the meat. Anyone used them???
  13. Its normally dry fly fishing and guided. As mentioned, its one of the best rivers to fly fish in the country. You can tickets from the Orvis shop in Stockbridge, but again, as mentioned its around £100 a day and something like a 4 fish limit.
  14. Just a thought but I wonder if introducing National Service for 18 to 20 years olds and for new entrants to our country would solve a few of our problems. We would have more troops and less immigration. Just a thought.
  15. If you are talking about the one in Hampshire, its one of the most expensive rivers in the country. You can try the ROD BOX just outside winchester. A mate of mine used to work there but day tickets start at around £100!!
  16. I rent my house out due to my job moving. I'm now moving back into it and the tennants have moved out. I gave them three months notice, which i think is more than enough. When we came to get the house back they had not organised anywhere else to live. I gave them another week to move. They finally moved and we moved in. Two weeks later i got a call asking for a stereo system they left in the loft. I had cleared the loft out as i needed the space. It was full of old crap from previous owners. I threw his old crappy stereo out with the rest of the junk and thought no more about it. They had
  17. When i was a keeper near lincoln we used to have two hare shoots at the end of feb. Each day you could expect around 350. The predators are all controlled except birds of prey so whats going to keep the population in check apart from diesase. The other reason is the illegal hare coursing we used to suffer. If they were confronted you could expect to find your dogs poisoned the next day. Proper cowards in my opinion. I used to much prefer watching and taking part in coursing rather than shooting hares but they needed to be controlled.
  18. I have had a shotgun cert for over nearly twenty years and have a great deal of experience with rifles ( part of my job ) but never had a FAC of my own. When looking to apply for one, i need the landowners written permission. Any land owner i have approached for permission is not interested as i dont already have a rifle. Apart from joining a gun club, what is the best way to deal with this.
  19. Whats the difference between Alex Furguson and micheal jackson? Alex Furguson will be playing giggs this year!!! Jockeys at Ascot racecourse will be wearing black armbands out of respect Micheal Jackson who successfully rode more three year olds than anyone else!!
  20. Hi, My JRT does the same thing. Its her rear right leg. Went to vets to get knee checked out as they can lock out sometimes. Charged us loads for antibiotics and talked about surgery to look at her bone marrow! She was only 6 months at the time. Did some research and found out that it is a common trait on JRT. She still does it now and is not in any pain. I have met loads of people who's dog does it. I would get it checked out to make sure but it is a common habit in JRT's.
  21. Hi, My deerhound cross is now 13 months and decided that he is not interested in retrieving. He sort of got the idea about christmas, just playing in the garden but now just looks at me when i throw a dummy for him. I have attached a rabbit skin to it but he grabs it and runs around me in big circles. I try to lure him in with treats and walking the other way but he just drops the dummy and comes to me without it. All you lurcher men out there must have some ideas for me....
  22. They charged me loads for this 'magical' antiseptic liquid called hibiscrub that they use in hospitals to clean wounds and wash hands before operations. Doing some research, you can buy it from boots for about £4 a bottle. It really concentrated and you have to dilute it before using it. The bloody banadage had fallen down his leg before we even got home. I'm definately sorting the smaller wounds myself from now on.
  23. My deerhound cross lurcher just cut the inside of his front leg last week. About 10 cm long but really deep. Took him to vets to get it checked. They put a banadage on it and told me to clean it twice a day. He also got some antibiotics. Went back yesterday for check up. They changed the bandage and put one staple in it. So far so good. Then they gave me the bill. £ 110. For two bandages, antibiotics and a staple. I was fuming and refused to pay. After I calmed down I realised I probably had to pay as the work had already been done. Is it a complete rip off or worth it?
  24. I always book my trips before i go through www.deepsea.co.uk. Just find the area you want and call the skipper. I fish mainly weymouth and now plymouth and dartmouth and the website seems to turn something up.
