  1. ooty my bigger bitch sassy started at the back end of last season she has bolted a couple but hasnt seen any serious action although she is keen she is a long way from being an earthdog. this season will tell me how she will do however she was purchased for rhe reason of working allround and finding and bolting foxes rabbits and rats from cover this she is doing well anything else will be a bonus the other two are still pups
  2. thought this post would have drawn the odd good post
  3. sorry to hear that traps is under the weather i hope its not to serious and that he is well soon. one of the best offers i ever got came from traps and i regret not taking it up. i wont bother badmouthing anyone. its enough that i have good words for one.
  4. most lurchers with a good bit of running dog in them will do a decent enough job . however if the lurch is tested to a greater degree ie. pushed that bit harder and made to graft . the crackes will show. also if the dog is a specialist working other things than rabbits. breeding is essential.
  5. really like this lad. liked him first time i saw him. looks built to last.
  6. cheers for offering Eamon. put some pics up of your dogs so we can pick one
  7. i.ll have a go. my biggest terrier catches allsorts. there is other stuff in him but he as taken to the terrier. so i think he should count. the others are to russells and three plummers. and i think hedgehogs should be off the list as it is as far as i know illigal to hunt them so this is where the honesty comes in . deduct 10 points off compo for every hedgepig compo.s unruly pack riots on ozzy i just call him a terrier cross
  8. i think the growing popularity of the wheaten cross may have something to do with that.
  9. i think the above post is spot on. well said.
  10. it is a nice pic but they are parsons not plummers ?????
  11. i'm not really qualified to do plummers. however i do like the breed so will jump in head first. please remember i'm new to the breed . size. 11 /13 inches. well made agile terrier neat with good bone and a stronge head coat should be smooth. but not thin with a good hide. temprement lively bright sharp but not to aggressive. working style. i see the plummer as a versitile terrier not a true earthdog . and expect them to do a veriety of tasks ferretting bushing working with a gun and go to ground and bolt the odd fox. like i say this is only my opinion of what i like
  12. size around 12 to 14 inch. comformation. stronge but spannable with good bone . coat. rough brocken or smooth. dont really matter to me as long as its weather resistant. more attention should be paid to the dogs hide/skin as thats what gives the most protction imo. temprement. lively /sharp. but not overly aggressive. with a busy atitude working style. the best ive seen will bay and mix. but will try not to get to badly damaged trying to bolt a fox by driveing forward and baying close taking hold when the oportunity shows a good russell should know when its bettered by a fox
  13. the thing with permision is you really need to get your foot on the ladder. and show your honest and trust worthy. keep at it and take anything your offered. once you get a little if you show you can do a good job over a period of time it will snowball. as darcy says be carefull who you take with you. as its easier to lose than gain. also its worth remembering. YOU CANT SHOW SOME FOLK A f****n BLACKY'S NEST.
  14. sometimes you have to x breed to get what your looking for. Yes.... But only to improve 'working type' not 'working ability' Is that short enough!!! y not ability?surely if you x a jack with a lakie ur improving the ability of the jack it depends entirely on what you need from your terrier gazza. i have seen some piss poor lakies and some good russells. so why would putting lakie into a good line of russells improve on whats already there. some pureist russell lads are trying to keep stains clear of lakie/bull/ etc as they feel it is ruining the working STYLE. of the workin
  15. what was the original question on this thread I read most of the terrier articles on here and quite a lot of the time I see you lads using Border/Lakies, Pat/Lakies and even Russell/Pats..... Sometimes I raise an eyebrow and think to myself why, why cross a 'good' pat with a Russell.... I'm not knocking anyone's decision to do this I'm just asking a question, why would you want to do it, what are the long term goals in producing such offspring ??? I seen quotes such as 'Border/Lakeland best terrier Ive ever owned' .......'kept a strain of border cross Russells fo
  16. here's one for you if the terriers you keep need to be outcrossed to another breed for (improvement) where they good enough to breed off in the first place?? why not get a terrier from the lines that have what you seek already in them
