  1. There was a cross wind but not enough to give the result of a 2 1/2" move to the left and then be able to return to the same POI with 4 clicks of up put back in. I only thought of checking with the Leupold Zero Point to see if it's the turrets on the scope moving the windage reticle line. I will check and get back Ok I checked with the Leupold Zero Point and the windage is not moving when I move the elevation turret so it must have been the wind, but I still don't think it was.
  2. Went to the range today to zero my CZ varmint 223 1-9 twist from 55gr Federal V-Shok to 40gr Federal V-Shok. It shot 4 inches high by 1/2" left @200y 2 shots were 1" apart. I gave the turret 4 clicks of down (corrected here it should be 8 clicks down) (1 click = 1/4" @100y) and was spot on the zero but now it was 3" left. I shot 3 for a group and all were 3" to the left. I then dialed up 4 clicks and was back where I started at 4" high and 1/2" left. The scope looks level as in the vertical reticle line looks to be on the centre line of the barrel when looking at the reticle with the
  3. Try to get a look at a Sako 75 varmint if you can. Very good reports of them.
  4. I use the same mini amp as you have but with a different speaker and MP3 player. Works well and is loud. But I don't use it as much as I should.
  5. The gun shown with the synthetic stock is the SS Varmint, Laminate 75 with a fluted barrel put into the synthetic stock. I'm hoping to get the original laminated stock back but custonised. Pimp my gun.
  6. Put my money down on this yesterday from John Greene the gunsmith Southern Rifle and Optics, Waterford, Ireland. Just the long wait now for the license to come through. Work that was already carried out on the gun by John Greene is -- Threaded 5/8" unf with thread protector, target muzzel crown, pillar beding, lapped bolt, new trigger. Well at present it looks like this: Sako 75 in .308 with the fluted barrel and the synthetic stock: BUT I hope it will look nearly like this with a custom stock - with 3 ventilation slots under the forend and with finger grips and a palm sw
  7. I have been using the Aldi one for a while now nothing wrong with them @£15 a pop. If they break just get a new pair at that price.
  8. Just to add my bit to this thread I'm hoping to get a 308 Tikka T3 Varmint SS this week @€1250. After doing a lot of thinking and dreaming about what calibre I decided to go with the 308 and the T3 varmint. This Gun will be used for deer stalking in the coming season. BUT I also want a gun that I can bring to the range and use in the competitions. So thats why I'm going for the varmint rifle in 308. I have a CZ Varmint 223 and the T3 Varmint 20" barrell is the same weight so I can't see the weight as a problem to carry when stalking.
  9. Squeeze the trigger. If you zero @50m then you have to estimate the drop at everything over that range and it's not too easy to do. At that range off the bench I can get sub 12mm groups all day with my CZ Style. But out in the field it's way different. So what I do is zero @75m and then I know that it's just 2" low at 50m and 3" high @100 and easy to get on target using a Mildot reticle scope. I found that high velocity rounds would never group well in fact Winchester HV were like a shotgun spread @50m. I have tried them all, the high velocity rounds, and have always gone back to
  10. Just back from a quick spin around my patch and 1 small dog fox in the bag. He was about 75m off and took a while to think about moving away. But a small blow on the FoxCaller.co.uk stopped him before he took a hit. Dropped like a stone - dead. I was out last Saturday night when it was my sons turn with the 223. He took 3 foxes. First was a big dog @50m. He didn't even move and was to intrested in what he was doing to look up. With the 170 Lightforce on full beam he took a Sako 55gr soft point to the cheast and didn't get up. The next fox was with his vixen out at 200m. Again usin
  11. Midnight to 2.00am last night . First time in ages to get out with my son. I held the lamp and he shot 3 foxes. Great night for it a good wind was blowing well and just a little rain at times, good moon as well. Got the first one @50m he didn't even look around at us and the lamp was on full, no need to call him in or anything he was to instrested in what he was doing. Bang first in the bag. Second fox was a long way out so called him in to 50m using the caller from Foxcall.co.uk. That was the first time to use that caller and it worked well on this and the next fox. Next fox was @150
  12. I'm trying out the Lidl Brake and Clutch cleaner at the moment on my 223 I shot 10 rounds and used the Lidl B&C cleaner and patched out usual - left for 10 minutes. #1 patch was black, #2,#3 black/grey, #4,#5,#6,#7 grey and getting cleaner #8 clean. Then used Hoppes #9 and left for 10 minutes. First patch out was clean.
  13. My CZ Style. I have since changed the scope to a Bushnell Trophy 6-18x40.
  14. Have a look at the Bushnell Banner or Trophy range of scopes. Very good glass for the money. I'm now using a 6-18x40 Trophy on my 22lr just swopped it over from a Banner 4-12x40. On my 223 I have a new Bushnell 6-24x50 with the target turrets and mildot ret.
  15. It depends on how good you are now. Can you shoot 1/2" groups @50m now with your CZ auto???? If not then you shouldn't be taking shots at fox's and stick to the rabbits. Head shots are the only humain way to kill fox's with a 22lr if at all. I zero my CZ 22lr @50m now and know I'm 1 1/2" high @30m and 4" low @75. I can take head shoots on rabbits @100m but only when I'm set up to do so and have the zero set for that range. If you can't kil a fox with 1 shot then leave it, you don't want or need to take his jaw off and leave the fox to die painfully do you ?
  16. Get a photocopy of it and carry that with you. Does for me anyway. I also put all my gun details on a small business size card for using in the dealers when getting ammo. I have 3 licenses and the permisson for the moderators so thats 4 bits of paper and the card. I can't aford to loose them so I carry the copies. I fact now I think of it I lost the originals moving house and only have the copies now. Everything is kept in my wallet, copies that is.
  17. That's what it says in the data sheet. And yes it is just my preference for an over-barrel mod. It should take a little bit more out of the noise and muzzel flip. I have heard the ASE ,not sure what type, on a 6.5x5.5 and it is realy quite. I'm thinking off get a couple of inches taken off the end while I'm getting the barrel threaded and target crowned. 23 1/2" barrel length on my CZ 223 varmint.
  18. Well here the info and data sheets for the ASE Ulta NorthStar mod that was sent to me from Jackson Rilfes. NS_data_sheet.pdf NS_3_manual.pdf
  19. There's been a lot of talk about moderators lately. Anyway I think I'm going to settle on an ASE Utra NorthStar. Made from stainless steel and goes back along the barrel. BUT as I now have a .223 and thinking about getting a 6.5x5.5 or 308 down the line I will be getting the mod in a .30 size to fit both. Hopefully not to much extra noise when used on the .223.
  20. To me it's a steal at that price. I have a CZ style and it will put 10 rounds in 3/4" groups @50m ALL day long without realy trying to hard. Go for it.
  21. OK then what to do with your mp3 files. 1. First zip up all the files and make them 1 zip file. If you have winzip installed on your PC then: A. select all the files B. right click and add to zip C. give the new zip file a name 2. At the bottom of where you write a new post or reply to a post there an Attachment Editor panel. Click 'Browse' and find where you saved your new zip file. Click the green 'UPLOAD' button 3. Now add that attachment (from the Attachments Editor panel) to your post for all to download.
  22. All the best for the new year John and of course all on this forum. Lets hopes it's better than last year even if only by a little bit.
  23. I have just posted a Review of The Howard Leight Impact Sport Earmuffs here: http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/index...showtopic=79132
  24. Review of The Howard Leight Impact Sport Earmuffs that I got a while back but only got to try them out at the range now. They are neat and tidy and fold up into the head band to make for a small package when not in use. I found them very comfortable to wear without them becoming to tight on my head or over ears. A good slim design so it did not hit off the gun stock. On/Off/Volume switch is a neat thumbwheel design. It also had an input for MP3 player or radio. When turned off and used as an ear defender they work very well in fact I found them better than the standard pair of ear de
