    theories are: - the black dots could be the breathing holes of hypoderminae, (forgive me using the latin term but I have no idea what the english term is and the german Hautdassel is not very helpful I reckon) and this is very itchy so basically the lost hair is from scratching and rubbing onto something - mange.. although I don't think it is mange because the skin is not really crusted - there is a theory that this might be due to a lack of cadmium which causes the winter hair to break

    nope, i shot it saturday and university of veterinary medicine here in hannover reopened just today, a bit too late to have it examined. I do have a few theories but they're not really based on anything scientific..

    I knew this buck from my trail camera and decision was made to take this one if opportunity presents itself to avoid whatever it might be to spread among the others. (left one) well, a few days ago while driving through my area I spotted it in a meadow, roughly 180meters away. not very spectacular, I got out of the car, loaded my anschütz .222, flipped open the harris, inhale, exhale, inhale, exhale, boom. Not sure what exactly that is...

    When does your season run to and what season do you have for does? roe buck 1st of may - 15th of oct. fawns and does 1st of sept - 31st of jan. yearling does (what's the correct english term for that?) 1st of sept - 31st of jan. and also 1st + 31st of may

    The sticking a knife in the back of the head method is called "abnicken" in German, was taught a long time as a great method and all but the opinion changed during the last 10-20 years. It is quite difficult to find the correct spot and apply the blade on a dead animal, if the animal is still alive, it is even harder. To illustrate the method: the wounded animal is in distress and I don't see why you would want to increase that by poking around and ending up like this: methods like slitting the throat are just shit and in my opinion unethical as the animal suffers longer than nee

    Nope, I can pretty much tell the difference between a mute swan (which I am allowed to hunt) and other swans by looking at the beak. The difference is actually that obvious, that I considered your post at first as a joke not worth answering but then realized that you really don't know the difference. And no, I completely do not see your point, why I should not post something perfectly legal on an open forum. Maybe, if your mate's wife is having a look at the list, have her translate all of it. You could then just let me know what other game you consider inappropriate for me to post her

    I use only breasts and legs, so a broad side shot which goes in just above the breast is just fine. Also, a swan is not much resistance to the bullet so it does not really start deformation/defragmentation. When there is a lot of wind, I shoot geese with the .308 and a cheap 170grain softpoint bullet, works just fine. Usually I use my .222 for geese. But - as with all other animals - shot placement is the deciding factor when it comes to damage to the meat.     it is a driven hunt for boar, this is how it works... moving boar and shooting from a standing position... also bear in mind that a boar, pumped up on adrenaline will go 100-150meters easily even with a well placed shot and then just drop dead.. they sometimes forget that they're already dead

    its better to sit out and get the ADULTS 1st if you come across a den, then take care of the cubs as the will hang around the den, all you have done by shooting one of the cubs, is to alert the adults to a problem who will in turn move the whole family to a new den. I have 4 x dens with cubs on ground i shoot over, but will not shoot them until the adults have been dealt with 1st or i will never get them all use traps, most efficient way to get all the cubs... I personally find it disgusting that people actually consider shooting a vixen that has cubs dependent on her.

    Thanks for the input, I can get the scope for 210€ new from a dealer which is a pretty good price I reckon. 200-250€ is the price range I am willing to pay.. I actually use a 3-12x56 meopta on my .308 and I am absolutely satisfied with it - but I just don't see me spending 700€ on a scope for a .222

    older second hand Zeiss or Swaro still are either pricy or not exactly what I am looking for, as I can't quite use a 6x42 with German #reticle. As to the illuminated reticle - I did and will do a lot of hunting in low light conditions where it is really helpful to know where your reticle is, especially with foxes. With boar or a roe deer you can sort of "guess" and a shot accidently placed a few centimeters off is still deadly but with smaller targets as foxes or badgers, there is not much room for guessing.
