    I had the same thing happen a few times to me the only good thing was when you think you going to be digging 8ft and you break through at 4ft bit of a bonus yea the best bit was true saxon the keeper who was with me insisted on getting the farm digger out and it turned out to be a bunny my bitch had killed,looked a good used earth.now if any one can say they hace never doug to a bunny they are lying.

    the first time i used one it said the dig was 10 foot,turned out to be 6 so bought a b and f,never looked back.

    as an all rounder then personally i would say a russell,but you can get all roundres in all the breeds,stay away from the bunnies though!

    oldnog my last 2 dogs that i have got working took several months,almost gave up with one of them knew she would work but took so long.that black and tan dog i have took a whole season,showed him one stop end and he flew but would not understand about finding until i had one in a pipe.there isnt many dogs that do it straight off mate so dont worry.on the other hand mate had dogs for a season that never do make the grade so just wait and see.

    if you let your dog hunt both then how will he know not to try and go to ground on bunnies.if the dog has never hunted them they will usually ignore rabbit holes but not always.

    you worry to much oldnog!!also you expect too much from ya dog.it doesnt even know what its going to ground for yet,bring her up here i have a nice couple of simple earths that i have done many times one of my dogs will mark it for you and we will take it from there.

    i saw there was a lurcher there,a good lurcher is worth 3 terriers when ratting in the open.my mate has ..got a small bull greyhound bitch,christ that is good.

    cheeky bugger hpool hunter.only joking!was in the same boat as oldnog several years back and taken many years of owning and breeding crap to get some decent digging dogs.driving me up the wall at the moment though because its not worth staring round here untill november time!

    it came out of churchs old tyke but bred by sutton.would be lost without him even though he is blind in his left eye due to a bad dig last year!

    how many roughly was there blackntan?looks like a hell of a day! the best i have ever done ratting was roughly 300 in a morning up maze strips with smokers,but we did have about a dozen dogs!

    been a mechanic all my life and into my 4x4s,the frontera is one of the worst 4x4 ever!!go for japenese ie fourtrak,hilux,trooper etc.

    told you mate give it a few weeks and you can bring her up here,i am sure she will work by the sound of it.after owning a few terriers over a few years you get a feel for a dog as it grows up and you can usually tell whether it will work or not,just be patient!!

    if an experianced dog marks an earth for you then you can encourage her to go down and find knowing there is one there.some people will enter a young dog behind an old dog,i dont believe in entering two dogs i have seen what can happen!!

    p***y is more than likely right!the only thing was when i spoke to you yesterday that it stunk of faberg*ee fox when you broke through.the only other thing i can think of is that the fox bolted from a hidden hole happened to me twice a few years ago,i always spend time checking for bolt holes before i enter a dog.the lumping noise you heard could have just been the dog digging on you would be supprised how loud that can sound sometimes!!
