For me this is another good example of whats wrong with boxing today particularly in britain......young talented fighters are exposed to the public far too early in their career....and with this exposure comes massive pressure on what are young inexperienced fighters learning their trade...... Who had ever heard of barry mcguigan, henry cooper or hundreds of other good fighters after 2 or 3 pro fighters....khan has put himself under massive pressure by turning pro in the public spotlight way too early......id like to see lads stay amateur a lot longer and be properly prepared for the pro game

Dawn i do acknowledge that inbreeding can cause problems and thats why selection is so important...........but you must also acknowledge that inbreeding can also produce some superb animals who if not for inbreeding would not have been as good.Im not dragging this out i just think folk need to be willing to try things before writing them off as bad......i agree there was never any need for this thread to get silly and insulting after all we are all learning off each other and listening to opinions,we dont have to agree with them but still good to hear them. Hi Gnasher. I do agree that som

Hate to state the obvious....but it might be worth remembering this was a cup REPLAY....yes a replay because chelsea couldnt beat them at home.....thats right over 100 million pounds worth of player could not beat around 100k worth !

Great stuff .....i had a mk 1 rs2000...twin 40,s and all the bits....this was back around 80/81....it sat in my garage from about 1985 to 1990 when i sold it to my friends son for about 900 pound.........he sold it about a year ago for 11k !!!....it was a rsoc show winner....needless to say i was gutted...that said he put more time into it than i ever could or would......brings back some memories, nice picture mate.

Droid thats a fair question and of course the old Nurture or Nature debate has been raging for years.......firstly id like to add i have no text books to go to ...im certainly not educated enough to read a whole book !!...but i have experienced many years and many generations of family breeding within a strain of dog bred for a purpose and what i would say with hand on heart is inbreeding CAN DEFINATELY produce superior animals when very selectively bred......now as regards behaviour, like i explained before im not particularly interested in a dogs mental behaviour as regards to what you des

Wheres the rspca when you need them !...how these people have been allowed to breed animals like this for as long as they have is beyond me....purposely breeding unhealthy dogs ? creating a whole breed of dog that cant breath properly, has a short lifespan, and cannot do many normal day to day pet dog tasks........all in the name of fashion....it disgusts me......i dont know who is worse the kennel club for doing it or the rspca for allowing it !

The thing is dawnb you are talking about a dogs general health and well being as a pet animal...im not...im talking about the ultimate in sporting prowess in a dog......if that means that in 1 litter 5 dogs are culled and 2 remain alive to become very good sporting dogs then so be it.... Im not saying inbreeding is of benefit to the pet dog world...its not we know that.....if i wanted an average run of the mill pet dog to curl up round the fireside then i would not select an inbred animal......if on the other hand i was looking for a top sporting dog i would look at its ped and understand wha

EAXCTLY !...because basic genetic principals hold we can use them as a tool to produce what we are looking for......thats what we do,we USE those principals.......with extreme selection we can produce very quickly what we otherwise couldnt if sticking to basic unrelated genes......yes of course you increase the risk of harm....BUT you also increase the chance of the good traits you are looking for coming out...........keeping them, and using them, and keeping the bad traits that will also come out away.....is why the selection process is THE most important aspect of any breeding programme.

Apologies to the original poster for babbling on i just cant stand people who close their eyes and ears to everything in favour of reading from a book ! The dog pictured looks a good example and sounds a very well bred animal ....i only have a little experience with whippets, they wasnt for me....but impressive little dogs all the same....good luck rehoming him.

Dawn B ...i dont wish to offend you as i certainly cant be bothered getting into an internet argument....but with respect i have come across your sort before......people who think long scientific words prove they know how to breed sporting dogs.....it just doesnt work like that.....when it comes to dogs bred for the extremes of sporting prowess there just isnt any classroom or text book that will teach that....because breeding to extremes is justnot done very much......show me a text book or scientist who teaches people how to breed extreme fighting gameness in dogs ?...extreme working ability

You really should learn a little about in/linebreeding before coming out with such a statement......there are sporting breeds that have dogs going back up to 20 times back to a certain good dog in its ped.....and there is simply no way these dogs would survive the sporting tests put on them if there was anything wrong with them......8 times back to a dog 5 generations back in the ped would be considered quite loose line breeding.....8 times back to a dog 3 generations back would be quite tight inbreeding.....do you even know how many gens back the dog thats been linebred on was ? Not to be re

Yep,cheers Bill sounds about right....never had any experience with docked breeds myself so all new to me....apparently it all came under the animal welfare act.....as regards dewclaws im pretty sure its not illegal to whip them off.....to be honest ive never really paid much attention to these breeds but ive kept an eye out for dobermans the last few days and they certainly look a bit odd with tails on....in fairness i cant see any reason a doberman would need its tail docked not being a working breed and all but i think its ridiculous with some other breeds that might work but might not what
-
No its only a pet.....bloody 700 notes as well .......and a pedigree of meaningless bullshit ....tried to talk her out of it but thats birds for you.....
-
So lets get this right, they have to be docked before their eyes are open....but it has to be proven they are to be working dogs.......so out of an 8 dog litter the breeder has to predict which pups will make the grade as workers and which ones wont ....and how do you prove a dog may make a worker one day !!.....they really need to think these laws through before they make them
-
ok I gotta ask this....if you know enough about dobes to be able to pick the best one....surely you would have known the law about their tails???? I know absolutely nothing about dobermans........but ive bred enough dogs over 30 years to be able to pick out the structurally most sound and healthy specimen of any litter regardless of its breed hence the lady wanting the pup knows ive been round dogs all my life and asked this small favour........so the fact they no longer have tails means i dont know what im looking at or for ?......dont try being a clever dick mate its not big and n
-
Oh thank god for the good old rspca...........i suppose they think this will make up for the hundreds of innocent dogs they have killed over the years.........lets see them hold their hands up and apologise for the almighty f**k up they have made over the last 18 years !....or is that asking too much like.
-
Was asked by a friend to go pick out the best made pup of a litter of dobermans today....i was somewhat surprised to see tails behind them, when i asked the breeder what the score was she said it was illegal to dock tails in england but not ireland and it applies to all breeds....anyone know if this is right or what the situation is ?

Personally i think people go completely over the top these days with supplements.....the reality is most people do not need peak fitness from their dog but give supplements anyway.....all it amounts to in most cases is expensive piss !.....a dog not being worked hard will see no benefit from supplements.....for general maintenance a good balanced healthy diet is enough....if you up the dogs work then in turn up his protein.....but this idea of giving supplements for the sake of it is just another needless trend in most cases. -
Surely theres a big difference between poor grammar and this pathetic meaningless language kids are talking these days.....most of us over a certain age im sure dont even bother reading some of the stuff written in this language, after all said and done forums are for reading so if you cant write properly then dont expect someone to read it !.....another thing that grates on me is this dopey " feck " buiseness whats all that about if your going to swear then swear its got a u in it not an e !....i cant stand all these stupid trends why do people these days somehow see it as boring to just be no

1 thing to remember about each of these legends is Frazier......chose his own path, after his career ended he was a rich man but chose to live amongst what he terms " his own people "......joe was never the most intelligent chap and unlike today back then sportsmen didnt have agents/advisors etc that would advise them financially through life, hence joe made some bad decisions with hindsight, but he has lived a happy and relatively healthy life doing what he loved to do. Ali.....was a very intelligent man...what most people see as brash and ignorant was basically the act that paved the way for
