It was one of the biggest dissapointments of my career in a strange sort of way,thats exactly right he did just come apart.Franks a genuine nice fella,i always felt he had quit in him which i dont mean in a nasty way,he is actually a very intelligent man he always played on the dosey lump character,he was never a fast puncher but he had heavy hands and when he hit you you certainly stayed hit !....he didnt even need to catch you flush a glancing blow was enough to get your attention.But fighting just never really came natural to him he always reverted back to standing off or holding when he wa

I think thats probably the Errol Christie fight your thinking of....Mark used to get a lot of the football crowd following him as did a lot of the West Ham boys Mo Hussein was the same.Gary Delaney once got out the ring to stop his brother getting nicked in the crowd because of the football carry on ....funny days.

Dont forget the Finnegans in there as well,Kevin could have been world champion if he had been more dedicated to the sport,one of the physically toughest men i ever saw. The Kaylor/Christie fight i remember like yesterday,one of the best atmospheres ive ever seen at a fight,a lot of the West Ham footie crowd had turned up and due to the lead up to the fight it was bound to go wonky outside the ring if not inside ...great fight nonetheless. Minter was from surrey or brighton somewhere i forget now i know he lives down near Gatwick anyway.

Minter was from down near Gatwick somewhere.... took many a dig in the ribs off Mark without being allowed to hit him back ....he lives the quiet life out in California these days being a fitness coach to kids,he could certainly fight.....saw him a while back at Terry Lawless funeral he looks in better nick now than when he was fighting !

He was a real nice fella Ritchie Wenton he gave the belt to Bradleys mum and kept in touch for many years,always sent a note to her on every anniversary of his death,very good and decent person.

Not sure i could pick out one fight above any other,it depends how deep you want to dig i suppose,seen some great bouts in small halls.........but on the world stage i guess for me it would have to be Ali/Frazier 3 from the past and Ward/Gatti 1 from more recent times.....though Hagler/Hearns was some brawl for such a massive event.

Yes i remember Lloyd he was a brummie if i remember right i cant say i knew him only in passing kind of thing,i think he fought Honeyghan at welterweight at the Albert Hall. I never reached any real great heights i didnt have anywhere near the talent of others but i was strong and durable with a decent chin,sparred a lot with Bruno and Gary Mason,Hughroy Currie.. my biggest achievement was being Franks sparring partner for the Witherspoon fight which he lost anyway....so pretty much sums up my career ....back then a good sparring partner was worth their weight in gold and it was a career in

Sorry to correct you again mate i dont mean to make it a habit but Bradley was a good friend of my family so only right to tell it how it was.Bradley died 2 days after challenging Richie Wenton for the vacant title he wasnt defending it.Bradley was from Canning Town and trained out of the Peacock.My nephew was a good talent at the time and was best pals with Bradley,he totally went off the rails and packed the game in after Bradleys death which was a shame.Some younger lads might know him through the dogs. The super bantams were around from the mid 70,s but if i remember right the bbboc only introduced it around 92/93 so yes effectively he would have been fighting in the featherweight division but by todays weight a super bantam. Charlie dont live the champagne lifestyle any more working for Haringay council !!!...but he,s still sharp as a razor,it was definately only the one fight Keith helped him prepare for.....maybe your getting mixed up with another South East Asian,theres certainly been plenty of them down them lower divisions

From the day i could stand the ol fella would put gloves on us kids....but sensibly speaking late 70,s to 1990...and i agree its not the type of thing you can just dabble in,dedication is key and without it you have nothing. It set me up for a lifetime of fitness and made me some lifetime friends so i owe the sport a lot and still to this day have a deep love and passion for the game....and still dont touch the beer

It was bugging me so i made a quick phonecall cos im a little bit obssessive like that .....it was xmas of 82 Keith was down here Charlie fought a fella by the name Mercedes in the March 83....apparently Keith went back up north a month or so before Charlies fight as he had his own fight for the commonwealth then a month later fought in Ireland at featherweight. As far as im told Keith didnt help out for the Chitolada fight he was up at super bantam by that time but yes your right it was 85...also Charlie was always with Terry Lawless,most lads who fought with Terry behind us never wante

Thats a shame and sad to hear as i remember he was a likeable,funny little fella and a decent talent.Just to correct you it was actually a few years before the Chitolada fight...Charlie was fighting a Mexican lad i forget his name now he stopped him on cuts at Wembley Arena must have been around 84/85,i only remember Keith because he used to hold his own sparring with a young Mo Hussein who was a full blown lightweight at the time and not even Magri could do that.He used to pile on the weight i remember,maybe a downside to being a butcher eh

I used to be the same when i first started using the internet,if someone was abusive i wanted to rip their throat out but i quickly realised the internet is just not like real life you just got to accept some folks bollocks grow when they tap a keyboard then shrink back to normal size when they step foot out the door !.... Round here you either fight or kick a ball as a youngun,sadly i was useless at footie so spent most my time in gyms.Boxed to a decent level ended up with Terry Lawless fighting out of the Royal Oak but earned more money being a punch bag for a few big names before my career somewhat stalled Its a great sport that will encourage great qualities in a man regardless how good or bad you are at it.

To say steroids dont improve performance is naive,they do....But like anything else they need knowledge and common sense to be most effective.The truth is probably 85 % of lads in gyms take steroids for the wrong reasons.Any time someone comes to me asking this or that about them i say the same thing and thats take your body to its genetic limit naturally,then when you cant go any further get some help from juice.Reaching your genetic potential as a bodybuilder takes years and years so for a 21 year old lad to be taking roids in my opinion is wrong. It would be easy to say i knew he wasnt as good as people thought,but to be honest i thought he was like a breath of fresh air at a time when the division was possibly the weakest it had ever been with the swapping of the title every other fight between the fatties witherspoon/tubbs/thomas etc.....I thought he had great raw talent and an exciting style.....but his strength was actually his weakness......he was brought on by Cus d,amato with the famous " peek a boo " style which d,amato had taken Floyd Patterson to a world title with also...this style worked well for Tyson against limited fight

Yep,cant argue with that......you only need to look at Hatton as a perfect example of what you say !....However,when we are talking what go,s on inside a boxing ring as opposed to selling the sport/media etc etc etc.......the truth usually comes out in the end.....and Tyson was no different !.....And if im honest the only thing that really interests me is what go,s on inside a boxing ring.All the best

Most of this is way over my head and very much out of reach to my limited intelligence i wouldnt even attempt to try to trade views with some of you folk i would need a dictionary to work some of this out ....but its interesting stuff anyhow......... Like i said,go read a superhero comic if you want excitement drama and hero worship.....top quality boxing is not always exciting or great to watch..... Tyson historically always struggled with tall men,Jose Ribalta,Mitch Green,Tillis,Bonecrusher etc were all 6ft 4 plus and he struggled with them and they were very average boxers....imagine what Lewis would have done to him ! Tyson ended up a cartoon character,if thats to be respected then maybe you shouldnt be questioning why you wouldnt flick the tv over to watch David Haye !

Hilarious !.....What possible reason could there be to think Tyson in his prime would have beaten Lewis or Holyfield.....the average middle aged man today was impressed by Tyson as a youngster as folk in general are very impressionable as youngsters and without doubt Tyson was a very dramatic fighter.
