a lad asked me today if i know of a decent greyhound to cover his 7/8 collie greyhound she is a good little bitch on rabbits and fox but lacks a bit in stamina .i told him he might be over doing the greyhound side of things and that he would be better off with maybe a 1st x collie/greyhound or maybe 3/4 but all he wants to breed for is speed as he reckons it will produce bigger bags

thanks the dog you picked is a cracking looking dog and everyone could see ye had a hard job but ye done a great job at it he was a worthy dog to come 2nd too

i had a bitch of that breeding before very good little bitch on all game and not afraid to stick her head well down into a hole but she had an unlucky tumble with a sika stag and had to be put down .never got a chance to breed a litter from her but plenty of good memories working her

i would'nt bother mate my mate covered his 6 year old working whippet that was very fit and all he had was problems 2 out of 6 pups survived nearly lost the bitch and it cost him an arm and a leg it would of been cheaper to buy a full litter and he would'nt of had all the heart ache

i use my 3/4 greyhound 1/4 border collie when i go coursing dont do half as much with him now because he is 9 years old but he still get's the odd run on them .he would'nt have many turns out of them may be eight or 9 but he was great at catching them but he sired a litter of pups to a saluki/greyhound x irish terrier/greyhound bitch and the 2 pups that a friend of mine has now have turned out to be cracking little coursing, lamping ,bushing and ferreting bitch's and they would hold their own against most mainly saluki bred in the coursing feild.

If you dont know if a dog is any good by 13 months old then I'd say you aint no dog man......not my kinda dog man. I need to edit this to say that of course nobody can know if a dog is any good by that age but they damn sure can tell if its a shit eater by then. you could tell if a dog is gonna be any good by that age but dont expect a sapling to work a winter hare like an adult dog and 9 or 10 turns from a hare is not a bad run for a young dog but running dogs of that age on brown or irish hares is the reason that there are so many burnt out dogs out there.between 16 to 18 months i

i have come across lads with dogs 12 or 13 months old saying that their dogs are no good and that they can only take about 9 or 10 turns out of a hare now who is the w**ker there the owner or the dog

one of my whippets gets that i call it ratty tail but i have been putting boi oil on his tail for the last few weeks and give it a strong wormer and feed cod liver oil i dont know what is getting the results but it's working and none of it can do any harm but my dog should have all the hair back in the next week or so
-
i brought him in offered him some boiled chicken and he refused it so i put a few mil of cod liver oil down his throwd and took him back over to the park for another walk to see how he was and he seems brand new he was speed flashing like a pup and then walking back across the football pitch's on the way back to the house we bumped into a mocky so he gave her an interveiw and he even wanted to bring her home but then when we got back in i offered him the chicken again and he milt it so i gave a bit more and he ate all that aswell so i dont know what to do now just leave until tomorrow a
