  1. Hello, I managed to pick up a new bit of permission, its 500 acres and has a good amount of rabbits on it. One section of hedge is stuffed with holes 200 + and when the cover is FINALLY down there should be some good days from it. Im pretty fortunate as the farmer has given me permission to take the dog with me and also to lamp with her when she is older so pretty pleased with that, not to mention im allowed to shooting pigeon etc too! Anyway, this is the second time out ferreting for my 7 month old collie/whippet/grey, the first time, done elsewhwere, was pretty poor with only one 1/2
  2. Cheers lads, I was pretty pleased with the result as I haven't picked up some new permission in a while. I spoke to the farmer last night and tomorrow's rat shoot is all sorted! I'll post the results. Craig there were quite a few escapee racers here too, I leave them alone though if I Can spot the ring. ATB
  3. I managed to pick up a new bit of permission a while ago and finally got round to having a shoot up there. Plenty of rats and ferals about, ended up with 8 ferals and 4 rats (couldnt pick 1 feral). Planning on having a proper go at the rats with my mates ns200 which should be pretty sweet. ATB
  4. yeah mine is much more to the whippet side of things id say. And at only 15.4 kg and 21tts shes looks like shes going to be fairly lightweight. She looks much more compact that the brindle dog. I had her out with the ferrets for the first time last week, only bolted one 3/4 grown rabbit which slipped the net while my pup was looking the other way, which is probably a good thing as i didnt want her going after anything anyway. But on the bright side, shes started marking warrens which is pretty encouraging. Few pics. ATB
  5. Hello, I'm selling my compound bow set up which i have had since last january and have only used twice, is in mint condition, comes in original box with original manuals etc. I'm only selling as i need to pay off some bills, and i am not happy that i'm having to sell this as it is great fun to shoot! I had never shot a compound bow before and at 25 meters i was getting some very tight groups. So here we go: Bear Encounter Compound Bow in Realtree APG Right handed. 60 lb draw weight. Very accurate. Very powerful. Manufacturers Info: We don't cut corners. When we develop new

  7. Bet that's a bit of a noise neighbour to have! I got it from Steven b off the rapid forum . ATB
  8. I think I paid 250 in the end. Well worth the money in my eyes, fits much better and its so much more comfortable than the standard stock. I think I saw a variety of rifles when I was browsing through his gallery so it's worth getting hold of him. To be honest I can't see why he couldnt make a stock for most rifles if he had the dimensions of the action. Yeh not far at all, just over the bridge! ATB
  9. cheers lads, im happy with my set up now. When the stock was being made i was constantly updated by the maker through out the build and to see the stock emerge from a block of wood was great, well worth the cash. ATB
  10. Cheers for the comments lads, Yeh i think im getting there, I went back out last night and shot another one of the same size and the others I saw we're larger so hopefully that's the litter taken care of. Cheers mate, yeh they are fantastic bit of kit. So easy to service and modify yourself too, you won't be disappointed. Cheers mate, I had it made by Steven b off of the rapid forum, its birch laminate, so nice and light. Looking forwards to doing a bit of bunny bashing over the next few weeks, my mates parents have had a baby boom on their land, so ill get
  11. Hello, There has been a massive increase in the number of rats around my poultry pens recently so i decided to get my mate over with his nitesite ns250. We stuck it on my rapid 17 and in the end we had 5 a-piece with two rats managing to get down some nearby holes. The rifle is in 177 so most shots were to the head where possible (one chest shot), all went down pretty quickly though. As you can see we took one large female and the rest were juveniles. Still plenty around but this should have made a dent in their numbers. All in all i had a good night and it was good to get the
  12. Hello, thinking of coming along to the show on sunday, is there an entry fee? if so how much is it? Cheers
  13. Hello everyone, Im not sure about anyone else but as well as the rabbiting that do, i also take part in a fair amount of shooting, including rough shooting with the shotgun and general air rifle work. As ive recently become the owner of a new lurcher pup id like to know your opinions and experiences with lurchers being used during shooting excersises and the best ways in which to train them for this purpose. I've read a bit about people using their lurchers for gun work but i have yet to find much detail on specific behaviours that would be benifitial while shooting. What extra
  14. Hello, Just trying to get opinions on the best age to put your pup in its kennel? Iv had a look online but can't find any info on the optimum age, any help would be great. All the best
  15. Thanks for the comments everyone. Yeh now i think about it a whistle is a lot more inconspicuous than a human voice! Ok well that is good news as the benefits of the whistle mentioned in the book did seem to mount up (travels farther than voice, more consistent, does not convey as much emotion as voice etc.) i was just trying to think in terms of working lurchers when your out at night lamping etc and the whistle would be very obvious.
  16. Hello everyone, Does anyone use a whistle when training your lurchers? I bought a book called 'total recall' by pippa mattinson which focuses on building a very strong recall in lots of situations including those with distractions such as other dogs and new people. This book advises the use of a 'acme training whistle' but i was thinking that if im out with my lurcher it might be impractical to be whistling all the time, potentially scaring off quarry. Any thoughts or past experiences with whistle training lurchers would be greatly appreciated. Any alternative thats are more practi
  17. Thanks for the very kind and encouraging words everyone . I just think its worth a bit of planning and preperation to make sure that this crucial stage of the puppies life goes as smoothly as possible and i certainly dont want it to suffer from lack of contact due to my work arrangements. Like i said before, my work situation may change for the better in the next couple of months which would mean that the pup would be able to accompany me pretty much alll the time. If this happens i will be over the moon Bring on next saturday! cant wait to pick up my new companion!! Thanks Matt1
  18. Thanks for all your very helpful replies everyone! I feel a lot more prepared and confident about raising my pup now. I will see if time off work is possible but if not ill have to persuade my grandparents to get the pup out as many times as possible throughout the day. With regards to the pup playing with the two Doberman, I think I'll only allow that when she is a fair bit older, so for now it will just be friendly no boisterous contact. Thanks for your input Matt101
  19. Thanks for the reply and your tips laracroft . So when you say you take it out every hour, do you mean that you are usually with the pup the whole time? or do you mean WHEN you are with the pup you take it out every hour? Because obviously as im at work i wont be able to get the pup out in the day and i dont really want to ask my grandparents to do it hourly as i might be taking the piss a bit (they do have to go out sometime too), do you think once every 2 hours for a wee/bit of excersie will be ok? And ill do the vast majority of handling/playing/training before work and when i get home
  20. Hello everyone, I will be picking up my first lurcher shortly (collie/greyhound/whippet) and i just wanted your thoughts on whether my current situation is suitable and any areas where i could make changes to improve the way i intend to raise my pup. I am sure there are lots of people who work 9-5 jobs and id like your input on how you delt with raising your (8week) puppy to the best possible standard. Here is the outline of my current situation and the lay out of my day I am currently living at my parents house where we already have 2 adult doberman bitches. My grandparents live w
