I have alreadty started observing and been out at first light for a few mornings, seen three hinds on the edge of the forestry last week. What is the best time of year to see them, my ground is all heather and rushy bog's, masive acreage also around forestry. Is their potentialy signs i should be looking for on the hill to say they have been their. Any help would be apprecti
  3. you didnt say weather it is a mach 11 or hmr Sorry chap's HMR.
  4. My mate for curiosity advertised for sale on ebay, one gold and one silver medal roe heads, to his surprise the feedback was mental. Germans now wanting to purchase heads. The main question for me though who would want to buy such a thing? and when asked about them you would have to tell a load of porky's on where you shot them etc, the Germans seem to be mad crazy for this sort of thing.
  5. Hi Guy's Looking for some advice on what Moderator to buy for my 17 i have just purchased, model type CZ. I have a budget of around a £120. Any advice would be appreciated.

The first night i lay out and seen three, the second went out with lamp and shot two, farmer still getting bother. Got a couple mates to sit out with me, two suckled vixens and big dog shot on the darkening. On Saturday night past sat out again same again two suckled vixen's and dog fox, hopefully job done. Eight Fox's in a space of a fortnight, farm 900 acres.
  7. Like the M6 motorway for deer, looks like a top spot Remmy.
  8. Totally agree with you Mark on the subject of leaving mature doe's and how they help hold onto the better bucks etc, it's a policy i apply to the ground and Deer i manage also. What i will say about the stalk and the doe i shot on Sunday is where i shot the doe the part of ground borders with around 4000 acre of forestry managed by the commission, my Deer move beetwen the forestry and my ground, this was a new doe on the ground, possibly moved out of the forestry for easier access to food due to the hard weather etc. Aroung half an hour earlier i was watching my mataure doe with last year
  9. I have involved a few feeding stations for my deer on the estate i manage here in the Scottish Borders, as you can see their is a source of good clean hay (must be good clean hay or the deer will not touch it) and also a mineral block on the far away tree. I also saturate the hay with pure Aniseed which the deer love, watched yesterday a group of three eating the hay on one of my stations. With all this hard weather we are having its good to give a helping hand.
  10. Lovely stalk yesterday morning. Nice size Doe shot, it was with a nice buck also, which i will be watching for the spring. Seen 12 roe yesterday, in big groups of four and fives, this cold snap may well be having an affect on grouping etc, I have noticed that deer are feeding closer to hand with all this cold weather we are having here in Scottish Borders also.
  11. If you fancy a stalk for Roe with me in the scottish borders, give me a shout
  12. Its good weather where i stay the now for bucks on the rut, we are getting thundery conditions nice and humid also, seems to kick the bucks and doe's into action! I always like to go out after a big down poor also, roe dont like the rain and seem a little but more desperate to come out and feed after a big down pour, this applies at any time of the year for me. That's my experiance with Roe, maybe other readers will have differant ideas for other species etc.
  13. Bolted this old dog fox at the beginning of the year, shot him as he went over banking, what i noticed was the marks on his nose, looks like he has been in a scrap before!
  14. Out stalking for Roe in febuary of this year, shot young doe as she came out of plantation, i the moved a few hundread yards and out the same plantaion came the two fox's ( Vixen and Dog) nice wee hat trick.
  15. Its good to be with you all, been keen on shooting and hunting for years, i did not know there as such a forum. I am a part time keeper on an estate in the scottish borders, my main intrest is deer stalking and lamping fox's though and try and get out once a week, shoot up to 20-30 Roe a year and enjoy my visits up north for Red's. I average beeten 20-30 fox's a year of the lamp on the ground i ahve and normally take a couple of litters of the estate. P.S. Rut is on in Scotland, called buck in last week with Buttulo.
