  1. there was a book out year's ago called. he's out dogging . which was written by robert booth. it has got a fair bit about derek wheeler and his dog's as well as pic's ect . a mate of mine new wheeler very well in the 1980's and was given or loaned many of the dog's mentioned in the book. i got see see and work some of em, tess the one eyed bull, old tan which was a chocolate coloured dog with a putty nose [ well what nose that was left] dan, midge ect . good dog's . look like a nuttall with a big nappa. and tended to wanna enter early.
  2. rat's like other mammal's have scent gland's at the base of the tail. these are only visible during skinning 2 small yellow gland's about the size of a grain of sweetcorn. at the base of the tail around the arse. i skin stoat's and mink out remove the scent gland's put em in a jar pierce them so the musk comes out then i add a couple of table spoon's of cod liver oil. give it a stir ,put the lid on and stick it in the freezer. i bring it out when needed and use it as a draw on my tunnel trap's. i just use a pigeon's flight feather to spot it around trap entraces. work's great. i cant see w
  3. i shoot em on site aswell. but i think the best time to get em is mid autumn when they are busy gathering the nut crop. conkers, acorn's ect . they are easier to shoot and less wary when gathering nut's. i usualy go out early morning and plug em . best i'v done is 12 in one morning.. i love squirrel shootin.
  4. i always use chicken or oxtail soup for rat bait . work's great..
  5. sound's a dodgey fockin farmer . i'd a broke his fockin jaw , got ma gear back then went.
  6. DPM for me. the real tree stuff look's good though, but i think it is designed to catch people's eye's and will not cammy you any better than DPM and it's expensive. DPM all the way.
  7. i have a twin shot which imo is an excellent gun. my mate has a 10 very good also ,power, accuracy, balance it's all there. and at the price you can get it ,if the gun is right it is a steal..
  8. BBB

    s200

both good gun's. i like the 200 better it's lighter, quieter and despite it's look's very comfortable to hold. i got my 15 year old son an s200 . he has had rabbit's, rat's, pigeon's , crow's ect. and he loves it.
  9. my usual's are . in no particular order , dead as a fockin nit , dropped like a bag 'o' shite , that one was dropped like a bad habit , or thats been fockin poleaxed among many other's that come 'n' go..
  10. i dont hate any bird or mammal. i love all nature. but it just happen's i love shootin aswell. and if it's on the quarry list it will get twatted no bother.
  11. for me once the tree's are bare it's gotta be roost shooting for corvid's 'n' woodies. i also love silouhette shooting. best winter shooting goin. if you can find a big enough roost site. but i also love pluggin squirrel's in the autumn early morning stalking as they are busy gathering the nut crop. it's usually while i'm doing this that i get my jay tally up a few notches aswell .
  12. kitikat.. 8 outta 10 cat's prefer it
  13. back in the day .. my old hw80 and hw77 loved marksmen. i did some real good shot's with em 'n' all. i shot a teal at around 70 yard's with my hw80 marksman combo. fluke shot maybe but i aimed, connected and flattened it. i also did a lot' o 'damage on the feral pigeon's with the hw77 marksman set up knockin em down at 40 to 50 yard's all day long .chest shot's dead on impact until the hw77 turned on me and took half me thumb off. it now resides at the bottom of the river tees.. if that hadnt happened i'd a still been using it now
  14. in this case i agree . if your old dog was good and meant that much to ye give it a go . if you use a good grafting bitch. and the stud is of good lines and has killed a couple a mink . give it a go. nothing ventured nothing gained. keep a few pup's yourself and give the rest to family and freinds as pet's . if they turn out good go get em back..
  15. i know a guy who bought an s410. which was only banging out eight and a half fps brand new straight from the box. he tested it at the gun club. contacted air arm's they got it back put the power up and apologised.
  16. scope wise. i would go for a scope with a 50mm front len's. better light gathering than a 32mm.
  17. good shootin mate. gotta love the raider twin shot [ the old un's] i have a 22 raider and i have shot every legal airgun quarry with it and plenty of em. best value gun goin . i have shot gun's that cost three times as much and didnt like em. the raider takes some beating IMO.
  18. if you gonna use it for fox . dont get it going on rabbit's. start on rat, then if you can. give it a look at a fox which has been dug to by another dog. i think it is better if you know someone with a dog that is grafting to take your young dog along on a couple a dig's. i would also show it fox carcasses . get it interested in ragging them. you can even use fresh road kill foxes for this. and dont over encourage it to go to ground in every hole it see's. ..
  19. the wood i shot em in had nt been shot in ever. and has the biggest gathering of magpies, crow's , jackdaws and woodpigeon's i have ever seen. in late winter there is thousand's roosting in it. i reckon it must be one of the biggest winter roosting sites in the north east . the noise they make is unbelievable. i shot in one evening last year 53 woodpigeon's ,8 magpies,4 jackdaw's and 6 crow's. i dont shoot it much as i think overshooting it would make the bird's more wary. we normaly shoot it on a breezy late winter evening with plenty of low cloud so the bird's sillohouette better aga
  20. i shot 27 in one night a couple a years back. sillohoutte shooting .
