    Roost shooting

i think it is illegal to shoot birds using artificial light. and pheasant are not classed as airgun quarry. although in the past i have shot loads after dark.silohoette shooting em agaist the skyline on cloudy night's. nowadays i pass pheasants up as i dont like to eat em [ taste like shit] so i wont kill em just because they sit there and gimme the chance to. vermin on the other hand i will shoot non stop maggies ,crows pigeons ect. but gone are the days were i would shoot summat just because it gives me the chance to. if your eating it thats fine but i know some who shoot em a
  2. shrew's seen hundred's got a few in the freezer. here's a mounted one i did a couple of years back..
  3. i used to ferret rat's years ago. and it takes a certain type of ferret to work rat's consistently . i have seen many ferrets after taking a beating of rats . refuse to enter on em again . one reason people dont use ferrets for ratting is the ferrets dont usually last that long. gangreen from rat bites genrally ensures most ferrets dont have a long carreer in ratting.
  4. stoat's and weasel's use rat run's regulary. i have seen a weasel kill and drag away an adult rat. despite there small size. weasel's are nasty little feckers. and will take on and kill prey much larger than themselves..

    RATS

dont use solid food for bait . rat's will usually grab a bit of what is being offered and scarper offering little time for a telling shot. use chicken or ox tail soup. put some along the rat run's. sit nearby quietly then plug em as the turn up. i have also heated the soup up in the past to get the steam aroma going and i have seen rat's come running over to it like the bisto kid's when they get a sniff and with the soup they have to stop still to lap it up .plenty of time to get a steady bead on em and put a slug through it's nappa you also dont need to wait till it's dark to shoot em .
  8. once the rabbit is skinned .,remove any fat, flesh or membrane from the skin. then rub in some borax. availible at most chemist's. this will cure the skin just fine. but it will make the skin pretty rigid and unplyable. for a soft skin it is best off tanning it .which gives a more supple hide .suitible for clothing ect. and despite what folk say tanning is very easy..
  9. yeah i used to do it regular back in the day we used to go over the weekend take gun's ,fishing rod's,dog's . we used to knock a dodgey den up out of bushes ect .and for food a couple tin's a bean's ,chocolate digestives and penny sweet's plus anything we shot. spit roasted. i remember once we shot half a dozen pigeon's. and it started raining .so we dropped everything and started making a fire and shelter. anyway we got that done and ma mate said right get them pigeons plucked we'll roast the fockers. we went to were we left the pigeon's.. feathers every were. the fockin dogs
  10. i had a hw80 back in the day in 22 cal. it was a great gun .but heavy. i also had a hw77 in 22 which was more accurate .due to it being a fixed barrel under lever. the 's are good but . i think they are now over shadowed by the pcp's...
  11. if it's a pup . pricked ears can be easily sorted...

    out today

good job you missed that starling they are off the quarry list now as far as i know..
  13. TT. a mate of mine kept and grafted them some year's back. smooth coated, bull headed ,black with the odd chocolate. patterdale type. i have to say they were no better or worse than the other strain's kept around me at the time. there was a book written a few year back called. he's out dogging . by robert booth. it will tell you more about wheeler, his strain ect. there was also mention of the strain going to ireland and a guy's name over there who kept em..
  14. fenn trap's dont discriminate against stoat's 'n' weasel's if your doing any amount of trapping sooner or later you will catch both.and IMO both need controlling...
  15. most any dog will bush/rat . but not most terrier's will go to ground and graft solidly . to me a true earth dog is worth more than a dozen busher's... but each to there own..
  16. yeah but i was about diggin propa when there were no nosey fockin grassers with mobile phones, no police helicopter's..ooohhh those were the day's.
  17. well i'm here no seriously back in the day around the late 1980's. there were proper dog's and proper dogmen around the north east. still a few about today but not many.
  18. not justifying anything, just saying what happened some 17 year's ago. i didnt give a fock about the dog i'd of happily shot it but i wasnt gonna dig 14 foot for the pleasure. plus the guy who bought it didnt give a shit. and by the way you wouldnt of punched him take it from me and oh yes i know/knew some of the best dog men in the north east and believe me they'd of done the same.
  19. no room for sentiment dickhead. it happened many year's ago. the guy whose dog it was walked away and said fock it. i said i'l dig it if you wanna ,fock it he said ,good enough for me . shit is shit. just think before you spout shit . remember a little knowledge is a dangerous think. arsehole.
  20. you are spot on there TT. but some folk like my mate have no time, patience or know how on entereing a young dog so they buy other folk's reject's i alway's enter my own that way they get no bad habit's. when it comes down to it the chances of buying a good sound made dog are slim. and to be honest most people looking to buy made dog's are not into terriers for long anyway . they move on to the merry go round of . lurcher's, pigeon's, canaries, horses ect,ect..
  21. yeah a mate of mine bought a dog some year's back without trial. the dog was well marked up so he just bought it anyway we took it out .dug a fox with my dog then showed the dog in question the fox it was straight in nee bother. well my mate was happy. so we moved on to check somemore eath's my dog said no .this other dog went in going off it's nut .my dog was not interested at all and he was a good proven dog. but my mate wanted to dig to this dog. soooo we dug down the said dog broke threw nothing there dog going crazy again my dog said no . pulled this other dog out back filled went ho
  22. i think the best way is sillouheting them against the sky line on a cloudy night. when the leaves have left the trees of course. no artificial light needed. i have found artificial light spook's bird's roosting in the wood's and will clear the place in seconds. not so with feral's in a barn though they just sit there thick as shit waiting to be plugged.
