Deer hunting Licence UK help needed
Tulkinghorn replied to firepower's topic in Deer Stalking & Management
No I don't I presume though that if the land is passed then all will be well ?? If you're new to stalking, then I strongly recommend that you go out with someone who has done a good amount themselves. Deer, as with all quarry, deserve a high degree of respect, obviously. I'm sure you have the best intentions, but there's a lot more to stalking than bunny bashing or paper punching. -
Sorry - not true. There is no such thing as a spent conviction in respect of SGC or FAC applications. The Rehabilitation of Offenders Act is specifically excluded. If the conviction was for more than 3 years (doesn't matter how long you served) then you are banned for life. If the conviction was for between three months and 3 years, then you are banned for 5 years from the date of conviction. If your sentance was for less than 3 years and was 20 years ago, providing you've led a blame free life since then, you should try to find out who your local Firearms enquiry officer is and

RIFLE CALIBRE HAVE I MADE THE RIGHT CHOICE?
Tulkinghorn replied to gamegunner's topic in Deer Stalking & Management
Deker, Remmy Couldn't agree more with your comments on shot placement - as I said earlier: I'm not disputing that small calibres are perfectly adquate for all UK deer, but my point is why not place a bigger bullet well and improve the odds even more? Tulkinghorn. -
RIFLE CALIBRE HAVE I MADE THE RIGHT CHOICE?
Tulkinghorn replied to gamegunner's topic in Deer Stalking & Management
Be careful, there's some slightly misleading views here - a heavy bullet does less damage, not more to the carcass. Bullet choice is also vital, don't go for anything too light or frangible - slow and heavy has the best. I use .30-06 for almost all of my stalking normally with 150gn or 165gn bullets. I shoot muntjac and roe much of the time and fallow/reds when I'm "on tour". Never had a problem with carcass damage, just make sure the shot is placed well. Don't be tempted to go down to a 110gn bullet in a .30 calibre. I tried it and didn't try it again! With a .308 bullet (same bu -
A lot of the main deer books (notable Richard Prior's Roe deer handbook) have the table in them. You will lose 90gms for the type of cut (i.e. full head without lower jaw). You then measure the length of the antlers and take the average. The span is measured, as are the length of the other tines. The volume is measured by dunking the antlers (but not the skull) into water whilst suspended on a spring balance. Then factors are given to all of the measurements and some other points are added for regularity, colour, pearling and miscellaneous beauty. All of that gives a points total. 130 poin

Terribly expensive one, I'm afraid I work in-house for a multinational telecoms company now, dealing mainly with commercial law issues.

Hi guys, Just a quick post to say hello. Not sure how many read these, but I'll persevere! Based in Hampshire, shooting for 20 odd years, SGC and FAC holder, main focus deer stalking, foxing and game shooting with friends. Lawyer by profession (hence the name) and have worked in and with the shooting industry. All the best. Tulkinghorn.

SOUND MODERATORS LEGAL SAFE KEEPING?
Tulkinghorn replied to JOE BLOCKY's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
not that im 100% sure, but i reckon they have to be locked up as if used on a firearm they have to be put on a slot & when a new one is bought the FEO has to be notified. i have 3 mods, 2 are on my rifles and the other stays locked up in the top ammo box when not in use.. best to keep them locked up just incase... rich If you need a space on your ticket to have it, you need to keep it in the same manner as anything else. Same goes (more obviously) for a spare barrel (i.e. I have a Blaser R93 with two separate barrels, both with mods - all has to go in the safe).
