I have a fox hound bitch which I am considering putting a springer dog over for good fox baiting pups. I have only seen one of these types of dog working and it is a clinker. Its only fault is it is mute, i.e doesnt bark after quarry. Has anyone had any dealings with this type of breeding?

Holy god not a bit of wonder the dog market is full of rubbish with statements like that. Its a fu**ing PET. if you had the choice what would you breed from. A a well bred but untried ( pet ) or B a good worker with unknown pedigree ??????????????? are you serious??? holy fcuk this thread is seriously finding a few interweb hunters! lol Workerxworker every time of course i'm serious . one of the best workers ive seen was out of two pets it exelled at everything it was as hard as iron. probably one of the best workers in the district. it produced JACK SHIT

First of all I will note you didnt answer my question. I expected as much. I did read what I wrote and the point Im trying to make is that you have a BETTER CHANCE of getting a working pup if the parents are proven workers. Do greyhound breeders breed from upproven track dogs ? NO. Do horse breeders breed from unproven racers? NO. The same factors apply , to many things can happen an animal in the field and its only then do we find potential weakness' or strengths. This lad has asked for advice so dont waste his time by telling him to go through with it. Will you take a pup of the breeding?

prices of pups are a joke at the minute. My advice would be to get to know a few hunting lads and get a pup through one of them. In saying that I got a pup through this site but I saw videos of the dog working and only bought it when I was convinced the parents were workers. Its always a good sign If the owner only has a few extra for sale and is keepin at least 1 himself.

:laugh:see whats the first thing that comes in your head money, what he should do is have a litter and give them to close mates who cann bring them on and see how they turn out , if its in them its in them its up to the owner to get the best out of them , keep a couple for him self , and borderland keep reading them books Im not worried about money, as I have previously stated on here I think the price of dogs has got out of control lately. Answer me this genius. How do you know the PET dog wouldnt have quit after a season Had it worked or became a dog that false marked, or had any number

Breed the dog and put the pups at 200 pound in the for sale section of this site under "terrier pups from good working lines" . There are clearly enough wallys on here that will buy one from you.

lad if you do breed it (which I would say not to) and they turn out no use you will have wasted a good opportunity to line your bitch with a proven worker. It will take at least 2 seasons from now to properly give the pups a chance and if they dont work out your back to square 1. Anything could happen your bitch in two years. Play it safe and breed to a tried and tested worker ( by that I mean at least 4 seasons work as previously stated) and start a new line of workers. Taking a chance like that to preserve an old line is not worth it. There are plenty of good working lines out there.

six years might be a bit long mate to try to start a terrier working. But you never know if the breeding is there it might still take to the digging. Sorry not made it clear. i meant to use as a stud. the dog is a pet and could not take it digging. In that case absolutly not! If the dog hasnt worked dont breed from it. No matter how good the breeding of the dog is. If I was Breeding I would like to see both parents with at least four seasons work under its belt.

Rabbits!!! If your'e gonna work the dog on fox, stay well clear of bunnies. total tripe!!
-
If the terrier is going to work on fox it will , no matter if its near rabbits or not. I always encourage mine to bait rabbits at a younger age that way they know what they are and realise of their own accord that they cant get down most rabbit holes. In my experience foxing terriers that never see a rabbit are the 1s that dig to them if given a chance. IF A TERRIER IS GOING TO WORK TO FOX IT WILL NO MATTER WHAT SIZE OR HOW MANY RABBITS IT HAS SEEN.
