Thanks, both rifles I had in my sights, Sako and Tikka are both mentioned here. Now just which one? Do some reading and visit a couple of RFD's

I have just managed to find the time to get started with stalking done my DS1 and I have a .308 on my ticket but not yet filled. I hope to do a further course later in the year which requires me to have an appropriate rifle. I supoose this must have been asked a thousand times before but what is considered the best (all round) rifle for Red, Sika, Fallow & Roe, calibre and manufacturer. Before I make a mistake and buy the wrong 0.308 (or get a one for one variation).

Hastan Escort 3 1/2 inch semi auto, 30 inch barrels, 3 shot with 5 chokes. Just 12 months old and with original box, but probablly no more than 50 shells throught it, mostly decoying. As it's 3 /12 inch magnum its not keen on 28 gram clay cartridges, but cycles perfectly using 35 gram (I use victory's). Put in for .17HMR variation on my FAC so need to get rid of one of my guns to make room. £300.00 ono.

CZ BRNO Silhoutte .22LR with Tasco World Class 8x50 scope, sling, Parker Hale Mod, Polecat quick release bipod. Checked .22 purchased against used it has had only 160 rounds through it (would throw in about 100 winchesters). £280.00. Sorry my mistake it's a STYLE black stock with stainless barrel Photo has my .223 scope attached the Tasco is in front.

Depends where you live. Lots of fields up North getting fewer as you move South. Probally just North of B'ham is the southern limit. It's O.K. if you have no where else to shoot, but as in previous posts you have to book out before you go. I awlays feel a little uncomfortable as I get the impression that no one knows your there and NPPC just has a blanket open permission and does not tell the farmer/land owner your coming. Maybe be wrong on that just an impression. Most fields are under rape and at the moment it's difficult with OSR being so high and no spring drillings to get over. NO EX

Yes I have been looking for such a chart. Asume this is in inches?? My Savage .223 is zeroed at 100yds using 69 grain federal btmatch. My Nikon scope is 1 click =1/4" at 100 yards, so at 300 yards I have to up my scope 49 clicks to be on the target? what is the sleeve section refering to?
-
Thanks, I nearly purchased a Tikka T3 Varmint myself and changed my mind in the shop!!! dam!!! I am suprised myself at the wild differences I was getting with the 55 grains, not inches but feet at 300yds and completely random patterns.?? Is the 1:7 twsit that tight that it requires special ammo to get an acceptable group.?
-
The reason I am looking for these specific loads is becuase I have a new Savage .223 Model 12 with 1:7 twist, using federal 55 grain loads the thing is shooting wild and it is back at the shop for testing. But Savage will only consider a claim for a faulty rifle if it is checked with Federal 69 grain Sirerra Match King BTHP, BUT the shop I purchased it from cannot find any!!! I phoned savage in the states and they say this is true, but once it is proved to shoot straight (1"-1 1/2" MOA at 100yards) I could try using the ammo listed in my first posting. The shop said I will need to try loading

Anyone know where to buy in the uk .223:- 68 grain black hills boat tail hollow point, or a Hornady 69 or 65 grain VMax, or 62 or 70 grain Hornady Tap or Federal 69 grain Sierra Match King BTHP

Thank you for your very generous offer, wish there were more like you. Unfortunately not really my cup of tea. Suppose you will be using 3" magnums?

thats surprizing as savage are reknow for beeing very accurate rifles. what ammo where you using ? what scope was the mounts tight on it ? have you got a mod on it ? how old is the rifle and is the crown in good condition on it. what groupings where you getting at 100 yards Nikon Scope with secure mounts, with and without mod, 2months old, Crown??? don't know, ammo was laoded bu a friend with a lot of experience on reloads.

Has anyone got any comment on Savage Arms and the accuray of the products? I am particularly interested in the .223 low profile rifle with 1:9 twist. I have one of these rifles and have shot the barrel in as per several instructions followed on this site and the internet in general..shoot..clean...shoot clean... and so on. However when I took the rifle out for it's real first outing on the range the grouping was non exsistent, that is I hit the 4'x4' target at 500yds but that was it! This was with and without the can.

Well after a long communications with the supplier, they tell me Egdar Brtohers are going to exchange the rilfe for a new one. So it would seem the original was screw cut wrong.
