used to peg out a shot rabbit upside down with gut slit and a magpie deek about 50 yds up the hedge looking towards it and done ok with that quite often , beauty of that was very little to carry if you needed to move
-
trying then this year they seem to get mixed reviews , the plan is just to trail them between other bits and pieces , they seem to do ok in a smallish pot so trying them in a ring culture pot how i used to do the peppers 9" ( though this year im using closed standard pots on staging and hoping to get more light to the peppers to ripen them as i grow them on the NE side of the gh and the cucs on the SE end and the toms on the SW side we will see !!!!"nowt ventured nothing gained "
-
thats what i hoping for ! they usually do though ,got the toms and gherkins in the gh propagator now with just a bit of heating "seems to be keeping around 12 deg at night ,got held/laid up last week with a virus and they were just getting out of hand in the house missed the potting on by a week i guess its surprising just how quick things get lanky if your not careful ANYONE GROWN CUCAMELONS ?

had a couple of decent days here in the veg plot the last 2 (well for me anyway lol), got some lettuce and mixed leaves out into a couple of small beds, cleared the gh into the cold frames and potted on the toms and peppers and a trial with the peas "started some in modules in the gh early and some outside in the open ground ,got to say theres no difference there all outside now an look the same " taties just starting to show their heads ,going to put the runner canes out tomorrow ready and plant out the broad beans this is the first year we have overwintered the garlic and what a difference

definitely give it a go "it does work " the first couple of years are the worst , im screwed up with arthritis and manage 17 beds no problem, certainly enough produced for 2 people for most of the year veg and a fair amount of soft fruit "struggled with apples and canker" but the soft fruit does fine had over 30kg strawberries last year from a bed 10'x5'
-
yup used it for years ,crack on and enjoy the veg

terry NO DIG has worked for me a treat over the last 3 years "keep at it its worth the initial effort " im badly screwed up with arthritis and for the last 2 seasons weeding has been measured in minutes literally ,crops are spot on, the first year weeding was as expected but this last 2 hardly owt to do "now running into the 4th"

devon flighter replied to jok's topic in Countryside Skills, Craft & DIY
the more weight in the bottom of a wading staff the better ! nowt worse than a light stick when your up to your middle or more in a river ,they drift and float all over and you end up tripping !"dont ask how i know but you get the general idea " -
